How do you make a poll? I'm gonna put one up as soon as someone tells me how.

I'm also excluding nu-metal trash like Limp Bizkit and Korn. Anyone who seriously likes those bands (especially the former) needs to have their ears checked.

FEAR OF THE DARK and SEVENTH SON... are godlike albums.

Also, SLAYER pre-Diabolos In Musica FTFW.

If you want a band from the apex of mainstream heavy metal; Megadeth. For a modern band, I'd say Children of Bodom.
