Pirates, Ninjas, or Vikings
I thought it do be appropriate to be suggestin' this topic on special day. So, ye landlubbers, what do it be? Despite me use of pirate speak, I do be sayin' Vikings.
Historically speaking Vikings are the only ones to accomplish anything worth noting. Pirates got smacked down by British Empire, Ninjas got smacked down by Samurai, neither of those groups really did anything noteworthy other than inventing entertaining weapons and style of speech. As for cool factor, I've always favored ninjas myself. Jack Sparrow is the only pirate I've ever thought was that awesome, and he's a pretty atypical example of the group. Vikings are cool, but all the historically inaccurate super abilities ninja possess are just too awesome to top.
I'm from an older generation so you guys are going to have to clue me in as to when this whole "Pirates vs Ninja" debate started. Ninjas are highly trained stealth assassins and there is no being on earth that could take them down. Pirates may have guns but a ninja who's hiding in a tree will have a shuriken in his forehead before the guy can even pull it out. The only "reasonable" scenario where a Ninja could be defeated is if he went one on one vs a samurai with katanas only. The samurai in most cases were better trained with swords than ninjas, but ninjas have so many more skills and weapons at their disposal. Simply put: Ninjas are disciplined and undergo strict training for a good portion of there lives, whereas pirates and Vikings were just fat slobs.

Besides, have you ever heard of berserkers? They were Vikings. They could take anything and keep on trucking until they were hacked to pieces or they suffered massive internal organ failure. I defy you to tell me about a ninja that could do that.

I'm pretty sure that when a ninja decapitated a viking, his truckin' days would come to a screeching halt.

Sure, if a ninja could muster the physical force necessary to do so. Vikings are HUGE, necks included. Ninjas are typically rather scrawny, and they don't really go for big blades, which would be all they could use if they didn't possess enough muscle to do it with a small but sharp one.
Anyway, if a ninja got close enough for a decapitation, one bearhug from a Viking would break his back; one bearhug from a berserker (who were often epileptic to some degree) could literally break him in half.
See that's where you're underestimating the stealth ability of the ninja. They could simply slice the throat of a viking from behind and let the guy bleed out before they even knew what hit em'.

And you underestimate the animal ferocity of the Viking berserker. Your ninja would have to either be able to do a lot more damage while still hidden or run really fast.
Actually, the only Vikings that were susceptible to that kind of tactic were either berserkers, who wore animal hides into battle, or really poor Vikings that could not afford armor. Most Vikings wore armor, otherwise, that would render such a cowardly tactic ineffective. And given that Vikings were very effective raiders, there weren't many poor Vikings, so your ninja's targets would be rather limited in that regard.
^Bringing up the fact that Ninja's use cowardly tactics is a good point.
Also, the fact that a ninja killing one Viking would result in an invasion of that Ninja's hometown. Rape and pillaging would ensue. Nothing would remain.
