Twilight Princess: Not so perfect??
I know the topic sounded harsh. Please don't hunt me down....
Okay. First off, I have to say that I love Legend of Zelda. I still play Ocarina of Time on a daily basis, and often play it more more than GCN games. But I have to say this. Twilight Princess looks great. It looks to be a winner. It'll win award after award, and will definately sell some cubes. At the Comic-con convention, I had the oppurtunity to play TP for a good twenty minutes. I was expecting perfection. Yet, it wasn't to be. The camera was mediocre. The control, while solid, wasn't on par with WW or OOT, especially the horse-back scheme. The characters, while pretty, animated like they were manakins. Especially Link. He moves like a robot!! His feet seem to slide on the ground, like he was moonwalking forwards. I know I expressed this complaint in other threads, so I think users like Jeff K and hotlink have heard this before, but I had to repeat. Anyway, I thought the demo was okay, but didn't blow me away. Or worse, it didn't FEEL like Zelda. I dunno, but that's my two-cents. Anyway, I want to know if you guys feel the same way about TP. Let's not make this a melee, I just want to know if you think TP is all that it could be. I don't think so. What about you? |

First off, it is a demo, so you have to realize it isn't polished to the kind of perfection retail Zelda games are.
That said, I have to disagree with a lot of your comments. The camera is just fine. So are the controls. As for the animation, well, I can’t say I noticed anything like that, though Link's feet did slide a bit. Maybe I was blinded by the hype at E3? I don’t know. But I did notice some framerate problems and blurry textures, so I definitely had my head on straight.

Yeah, jgzeidan talked about this in the one thread where we talked about our favorite Zelda games. I expect Nintendo to iron out the camera issues and the controls before the game's released, assuming that they're there. Also, Eji Anomua (forgive spelling) talked about the efforts being put forth to try and polish the physics and character motions before the game ships, at E3.
Personally, I would rather have the game delayed if it would help the game turn out better. Hopefully though, Nintendo will have the game polished and ready for November. |

Like a lot of people have said already it probably isn't at it's full glory yet. Though I wish that it would have been released on the Revolution coming out. Yet it will still be a great selling game for the end of the gamecube generation. Demo's usually have a lot of glitches and this doesn't mean that it will turn out to be a bad game. Nintendo is usually very good on how they polish there games up before they release them... Though I can't believe some people thought that Metroid Prime had bad controls... SIGH... Anyway, you shouldn't be worried, Zelda Twilight Princess looks to be the best of the series. I have been waiting for this game for a long time. I was originally drawn to link to the past, then ocarina of time, but now since this is going to be released its like zelda is returning to its all time glory. Mind you I did like some other zelda releases it seemed as if they were a little off the main hipe I was into. For instance I personally didn't looks seasons or ages that much. I remember that people complained about glitchs of the old ocarina of time. So they delayed that game over and over again until it was perfect for its time. If you like zelda games then you shouldn't really complain. Glitches will be taken care of. Just be happy you actually got to see the working progress of the game. Like how link moonwalks forward and how it had bad camera angles. Luagh at it and be happy that the ultimate zelda game is here to come! REJOICE!

I think Zelda will be a fun game. Nothing more. I don't expect anything great out of the series after the huge failure that is Wind Waker.

Wow!! Ten posts in 30 minutes!! Wow, I hope I didn't anger some folks (other than Mike..),
You're right guys, it's just a demo. Nintendo will hopefully fix all those glitches and no-nos before release. It was just that so many people who actually played the demo said it was perfect, and can't get any better... and when I played it, I thought to myself 'Perfect? Really?'. It just wasn't that perfect demo people and friends were proclaiming.. I don't understand why the hell you get mad, Mikewolfskin... You don't show any anger with other users, at least nothing I've seen anyway. Whatever happened to 'you really think so?', or 'What makes you think that?'. I stand by my complaints; I thought the camera went out of whack when you attack enemies, and I thought horse-back control was awkward, and I thought Link's animation was strange. That's my opinion, and I know it'll get better for the retail version. I'm just complaining in contrary of others thinking the demo was perfect, because it wasn't. To mike: I'm a fan. I'm a damn good fan. And I think my pointing out even the smallest mistakes for a great game, or demo, shows that I expect and anticipate ALOT out of a Zelda outing. I'm not blinded by fanboyism and say it's perfect, when it's not. I'm not dogging on the Zelda demo, I'm critiquing it. I love Nintendo, but I won't be brainwashed to think that everything they show and release is dead-perfect. 'Little Whelp'? I say you grow up, and face the fact that some fans want the best out of Nintendo's skill, the TP demo not being one of them. That's what a REAL fan does. End of rant. |

Phillip is my hero. jgzeidan...not so much.
I'd never base my opinion on a game from the demo...the demo isn't completed work. |

jgzeidan, you have every right to share your critique. I haven't played the demo myself, but if I were in your place I would do the same and speak out if the game displayed early shortcomings; I'd probably try to go into detail with the issues though.
I believe it was critique and complaints that garnered Nintendo to speed up the races in Mario Kart: Double Dash before the game was released back in 2003. The Zelda: TP demo is praised by many, but like many have said though, it's just a demo so there is hope that your problems will be addressed when the game is finally released. Oh, and don't take mikewolfskin too seriously. Quote:

You're making me cry, Max.
Well, I know it's a demo. Again. But, as Icana touched upon, Nintendo will base critique from the demo. And if everybody thinks it's perfect, Aunoma and pals will really think it's perfect, right? Of course it's not completed work. I guess I shouldn't take Mike seriously, but damn, can he piss me off... |
