Yeah, it kinda pissed me off when they went to Intel chips. I am using an iBook G4, made a year before Intel chips came onto the scene. Version 10.4.11, all the way baby. It's been downhill since. I have a perfect Apple computer as far as I'm concerned.
I really didn't care. To me, it signified that Apple was just trying to mainstream itself and sacrifice what had set them apart from the rest of the herd.

Apple went to the Intel chips because the PowerPC chips ran too hot for laptops simple as that, they didn't have a choice if they wanted faster processors in the portables. That move didn't have much to do with them being more like "PC". In fact other than the OS most of the components of the computers aren't alien to Macs only. Switching to intel chips had the side effect of making them able to run windows (which they could already do via virtual PC for years anyhow) more easily.

I didn't know that. I guess it makes sense, since my laptop does run kinda hot. It doesn't bug me any, I got used to it. I guess they gotta do what they gotta do, in the end.
Anybody find it amusing that Apple rips on each MS Windows system, given that many users of Boot Camp own Windows XP and Apple tacitly approves?
Yeah, you're right, they probably would. And it's their fault for perpetuating the addiction. If Apple was all that-and-a-bag-of-chips as they claim to be, then they would be kickin' butt and helping to draw people away without enabling them to still suckle at Microsoft's proverbial teet.

^That would be effing impossible with the business sector married to window for the indefinite future. Windows in all it's glory holds a key chip in that race and everyone (save for some people in this thread) knows that is one of the primary reasons that NO OTHER OS will ever completely overthrow or halve Windows. When Apple can become a major enterprise player that's when windows has problems. Until then than can fart in a box, call it an upgrade and not have to worry about losing marketshare.

Thus making it possible for anybody to build their own Hackintosh!
That's probably going to be the only way I ever own a mac.
