Netflix for PS3 now shipping

I just got my email contact from Netflix and says that I should have my DVD to run Netflix movies no later than tomorrow (Friday) for PS3 movie streaming.

They said it would come sometime in this month, no idea it would be so quick. Once I get this sucker rolling I'll have to see about how smooth it is and report back on it since I use wifi n' all that, worse comes to it I can order a 10ft network cable and run it to the router if need be.

Anyone else take advantage of this?

Yup - I got my e-mail notification today as well. My PS3 is literally 12 inches away from my wireless router so that'll give us a good benchmark on how well this actually performs. I'll let you know on Sat.

Same here. I checked the mail and had 2 movies come in, so I guess if their note is honest it should be here mid-day tomorrow.

UPDATE: Got the disc as they promised and it's pretty nice.

Basically you setup on the PC or whatever has a browser that can get to netflix.com proper and put 'watch now' movies into the queue. From there just fire up that disc in the PS3 and let it start. From there you get a list of them in order left to right. You can tab that way or hit down and do so and get a smaller pic with a description of the movie, start button, a resume feature, and if it has it a episode/chapter selector like with TV etc series. It also updates LIVE as I was pulling stuff on the PC here with the PS3 on behind me and they came and went as I did it.

Beyond that be aware that at the top if you push up there are tabs like a browser, and if you roll right you get all the classic website based suggestion areas: action/adv, cartoon, horror, suspense, drama, comedy and so on...even weird stuff like 'movies like X movie you watched' or 'Adventures from the 1980s' and there's a lot of suggestions (up to 100) in each. This is a pretty strong service off that little disc.

Wife late home, fired up BLOOD (anime) which is kind of short to give it a roll. The video and audio quality are fantastic for streaming, better by far than off the PC via a browser. I'm happy to report it never skipped, lagged, or crapped out, not even once and this is over my WIFI connection, it's not wired here. If you were on the fence of not bothering because it could suck, despite being a free disc, get it.

Works pretty seamlessly - didn't experience any hiccups or lag. I wish they included a search feature though - it just forces you to browse. Maybe an update to the Netflix server could improve upon that.

Yup that's the one fatal flaw with it, no search which is stupid since the PS3 has a built in keyboard function, or you can just jack one in.

Oh I didn't note it but it on anything on HD format streams in 720p. So like if you get a newer movie or a tv series like Heroes or something very popular it will go that way.

The only hiccup I've had since with it is with it going and me running D&D Online with my friend last night as it clipped out for like 5sec or so twice in a 90min~ movie my wife was watching. Needless to say it's stable.
