What's in your collection? I don't have a huge collection yet, but, instead of buying more videogames this year, I'll be buying more DVDs.

I have:

Finding Nemo
Hulk
Pirates of the Caribbean
2 Fast 2 Furious
The Matrix Reloaded
Daredevil
Mr. Deeds
Spiderman
Eight Crazy Nights
The Grinch

I'm gonna buy a lot more this year.

alrighty, let's try out what i've picked up in the past three weeks:

hulk, wayne's world 1&2, the west wing - season one, sympathy for the devil, who framed roger rabbit, american wedding, two towers extended edition, house on haunted hill...and i'm probably leaving out some, but whatever...

i own tons more than that, because i love movies more than anything else.

I have a couple hundred DVD's but I have a friend...her name is Civon and her parents own a DVD collection that is so big, that they actually had to type up a mini book containing 75 titles per page and I think it was 13 pages long. Thier collection also takes up a few rooms of the house.

Now they do have repeat movies (like whenever they came out with another version) and multiple regions for about 10% of thier numbers...but that is freakin huge!!

It took Civon and I about an hour to figure out a movie to watch haha.

Monkeylord
01-13-2004, 05:45 AM
lol... it always takes me over an hour, and I have to keep an excel spreadsheet of what I have. That way I can filter the genre's when I'm in the mood for a particular type of film, and I also keep my friends names listed next to any films I lend out. That way I know who has what and never lose them. I'd probably have more if I didn't keep lending them out and forgetting who had what!

you know what i just realized? jaga never answered how he owned freddy vs. jason days before it came out, and how he already has haunted mansion on dvd when it's (even now, a few weeks later) still in theaters...

something tells me he was probably lying to us.

Steve-AMN
02-03-2004, 04:21 AM
I know a few people that own movies before they have come out to theaters or to rent/buy. It all has to do with crappy copies made either in theaters or other ways.

As an example. A friend of mine had a copy of X2 before it came out to movie theaters...I didn't want to watch it because I would rather see it in quality and contriubte to the film's success. After the movie we went to his house and I checked it out. It was deffinatly real but the quality was really crappy both sound and visually. He doesn't know how it was made before the movie...he just knows where he can get them.

My moms friend buys illegals copies. They aren't bad. I'll stick to my legal BJ copies. :D

Here's my most up to date list... just over 400 discs now (not including the bonus discs from 2-disc special editions). I've almost filled up 2 240disc carry cases - much better than keeping them in the cases they come in cos they get knackered quickly (especially the cardboard ones!). I usually file them in a carry case and stick the case in a storage box.

I only keep a list cos my friends treat me as a free DVD Rental service (I actually don't mind). keeping a list is an easy way of letting them know what I have and I can also mark down who has what and when they borrowed it (I've lost many a DVD and VHS because I've forgotten who has what). It's also handy for deciding what to watch as I keep the REAL list on an excel spreadsheet and have enabled filters so I can list only certain genre's depending on what mood I'm in. Makes it so much easier to choose what to watch.

Oh yeah, CHRI$$ - I checked my most recent list, I was right originally - 417 --~

Monkeylord
04-01-2004, 02:34 AM
It was 2 for £10 and I wanted Masters of the Universe (god only knows why!).

Yeah, it is a VERY corny horror. Directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins) it was designed to ride on Jaws' success. It's watchable, but only cos it's so cheap and bad. I love terrible films as much as I like good ones!

Messiah
04-01-2004, 05:53 AM

Monkeylord
04-16-2004, 07:55 AM
Dog Soldiers isn't a horror (unless you count the fact that it's TERRIBLE!). Saw Wrong Turn a few weeks ago and thought it was "meh" (ie: not neccessarily bad, but not good either). American Werewolf in London is SUPERB and the 20th anniversary 2 disc set is incredibly good value. Definately pick that one up!

Messiah

You did'nt like Dog Soldiers? dude why not, i thought it was agreat movie

Monkeylord
04-16-2004, 08:13 AM
Dire acting, terrible plot, poor script (or maybe they were adlibing - the jury's still out on that one) and the werewolves were basically big (poorly constructed) Muppet rip-offs.

I laughed through most of it as it was the only way I could cope!

Messiah
04-16-2004, 08:18 AM
Oh ok, i did'nt think it was that bad but i spose its your opinion. Know of any other good horror films. Evil Dead, Holloween, Friday the 13th man the horror genre rules

To tryhardish for me, it was a good concept that ultimately did'nt work. Dont get me wrong i like mindless comedy as much as the next guy but this movie never really took off for me. I was really looking foward to it and after i finished watching it i was a quite disapointed. The chick with one boob, the cow ninja, the baby fight, i never laughed at any of those bits which is suprising cause i usually laugh at "dumb" moments.

Serj
05-09-2004, 03:21 PM
I too never laughed at the cow or the one-boobed lady. I laughed continously as the baby though, I thought that was genuis. The film was so stupid that it never tried to hide moments where graphics had been used. I agree that it was tryhardish, but I only felt that this showed sometimes, with the rest of the movie being very entertaining

best I've found for ya would be getting them online from www.dvdboxoffice.com as they do free worldwide delivery, and have them all seperate. The boxset I got ain't that great. It's 4 discs comprising of the following:

Night of the Living Dead - 30th Anniversary Edition (dodgy new score and new pointless scenes that slow the movie down).

Dawn of the Dead: Directors Cut (cut being the operative word as there are several scenes missing, including the exploding head, zombie cannibalism and the shooting of the zombie kids).

Day of the Dead - great film, TERRIBLE picture quality though.

Document of the Dead - 2 documentaries, one on "Night" and one on "Dawn" plus a photo gallery. So-so really... not that great, but better than nothing.

You're better off getting them seperately, and DVDboxoffice does free worldwide shipping - I didn't find anywhere else that shipped to Aus (although I only really spent 5mins looking - I am at work afterall!).

Hope that helps - don't be shocked by the prices as they appear in CANADIAN dollars (which makes everything look expensive if you're not used to the exchange rates). You can change the displayed currency using their tools menu.
