Swords, simple. Like Fresnokila said, guns require no skill at all, just point and shoot, and the person is dead (or about to die from the gunshot).

Something about swords jsut fascinate (sp?) me. More so the traditional Samurai sword set (Katana, Wakizashi, and the Tanto) intrigues me. There's also a genuine sword shop at the mall here, with authentic Samurai swords, as well as the classic European swords. I really want this set though, just for the cool factor :P:

I don't know what it is but I like swords better. I to think guns are to cheap thiers no skill in it unless you snipe and then thiers no honor. So I prefer swords. Even in a game I'd rather have a sword.

Some people say that you dont need any skill to use a gun, but thats not true. It takes skill to aim and draw your gun before your opponentand and have time to shoot.

Swords definitely look cooler, and they require more skill to wield. Guns are pretty cool too, but not using your own physical strength to kill someone (if you have to) is just wimpy and dishonorable. Actually, my friends and I were having a discussion at lunch the other day about what your weapon of choice would be if a horde of zombies invaded Earth (yeah, I know...Someone was reading a rather comical yet incredibly detailed book about zombies and their types. I think it had something to do with the Apocalypse.). I claimed that nothing beats a sword, especially a Japanese sword and preferably a katana. They're lightweight, very durable, and extremely sharp. The curvature of the blade also allows them to be drawn very rapidly from the sheath, using friction to your advantage. When weilded skillfully, they're tough to beat. I won't argue that a person with a sword could beat one with a gun. That's just ridiculous, unless the swordsman is extremely agile and it's a close range battle. Back to the zombies...guns wouldn't be all that effective, since they require ammo to be lethal, whereas you could use a sword to slice off zombies' heads indefinitely, barring physical exhaustion. Sword wounds are also particularly nasty. They are larger than bullet wounds in general and become gangrenous more often if they aren't initially lethal. I'd also like to see someone try to slice someone else in half with a gun. Unless it's a minigun or a rather high caliber weapon, it'd be rather difficult.

I imagine that when fighting for your life, you would want to life, and honor goes out the window, if a mugger came up to you and held a knife to you would you want an honorable battle? No, you want to blow his nuts off with a 12 gauge shotgun.

Plus, nobody has addressed this fact in video games: Guns, you need to unload clip after clip (unless headshot which are HARD to do) where as swords (e****ally plasma) are one hit kills, that is NO SKILL.

Swords.....easiest question I've ever had to answer....Swords prove a person's skillfulness. A gun in combat lets a person hide behind a veil and kill the enemy while not haveing to do as much work...of course, that's my opinion.

Swords and Guns both need skill. An example would be what Monolith said. Also Swords and Guns can do one hit kells. Almost all of you people probebly think that hiding and shooting from a destance is coverdly, but even hiding takes skill cause if your enemy has a gun, you cant go hiding every where. You have to see if the enemys bullets can perce the object. You need a lot of speed to load and aim fast. Also, guns are just as strong as swords cause they can disable a body part in one shot, plus it also sends out something like poison into your wound.

Think of it this way. If the armies of the medieval ages had barettas, or even a musket, then swords would have been obsolete. In terms of war, its not about what looks better, or how long your sword is. What matters is you take your opponent out in the easiest fashion. Whether it's honorable or not, it's just not fast enough.

Notice the excessive use of the firearm in this trilogy. The closest thing to a sword would be the T1000's arm. He lost.

Next, we have the Matrix.

I've only seen 1 use of a sword in this trilogy. That's the second movie during the carchase with Morpheus. He used it to get the car flipepd over. This was most undoubtedly cool. But note that the final blow was struck by the gun in his other hand.

Now let's look at some common anime.

Inuyasha:

Many swords, no guns. Also note that it takes place in Feudal Japan, somewhere near the 17th century. If you put a gun in Inuyasha's face, of course he could retaliate. But if the bullet hit, then how would he cure it with 17th century medicine?

YuYu Hakasho:

For the time that it was on Toonami, that freaky spirit detective shot Yusuke with a gun on his arm. Major pain right there. If he had continued to shoot him, the show would have been over in one episode, instead of many Saturdays.

FLCL:

Only one episode put a real emphasis on firearms, where they were shooting the bajeezus out of everything. Didn't hurt much, for the sake of the show, but still proved effective. No swords in that show.

I could probably name more, but I'm getting tired. Guns are better. Because, you know, you can shoot people.

Heres the deal. If your opponent is a foot away, you would much rader have a sword then a gun. But if you are haveing long range battle, then a gun would be more helpfull. But in a close range battle it is stell posebale to win with a gun and in a long range battle, it is also steal posible to win with a sword.

^^Where did you learn to spell? I won't try to dispute the fact that swords have no practical place in today's world. Even so, if you want to take someone out with little to no noise, a sword is the obvious choice. And don't hand me that silencer shat, because that still makes noise. Also, there is evidence to consider. Unless you break the freaking point inside the guy, you don't leave anything behind; with a gun, you load it the with a bullet that you handle with your hands, thereby imprinting DNA onto the bullet, and then, when you fire the gun, you leave the bullet there. Case in point, even though swords are basically obsolete, there are still areas where a blade is much more desirable than a firearm of any sort, silencer or not.

guns suck in my opinion. first of all, which is gonna look better on your part? a sword. you can also be disarmed easily if you use a gun. when someone tries to knock the gun from your hand, there it goes. if he tries to knock a sword outta your hand, splat! his hand gets cut off. now on the offesive side, a gun would be better because Bang! he's dead. but then it's simply over. a sword would take more skill, but still look really cool.

If you have a sword and your enemy has a gun and your 30feet away from each other, you will probebly loss. So, would you run and hide, or just run strat at the enemy. Let me guess, neither, you will stand there and cry.

Bullets are faster than swords. Guns can be aimed better than swords, thus providing better distance.

Guns are overall better. It'd be hard for someone extremely experienced with a gun to lose to someone extremely experienced with a sword. Of course, it would depend on several things, such as the starting position, etc.

In a duel, a gunman would like win if the distance is like 10 feet away or so.

Close-up would be quite screwed, although a gun could still be used..
