Who here has seen Rurouni Kenshin? It is by far my favourite anime ever. The storyline is excellent, the characters are well developed, and the animation is very well done. It's based on the actual Meiji Revolution and the period that immediately followed and tells of Hitokiri Battousai, the manslayer, a notorious samurai warrior of the revolution, and his quest to repent for his sins and protect the innocent. I can't wait to buy the DVD box set ($119.95 on nextdayanime.com). I know that's quite a bit (although I'm saving about $180), but for roughly 47 1/2 hours of the best anime I've ever seen uncut, it's worth it (at least for me, but I'm also obsessed with it).

Hitokiri != Manslayer
Hitokiri = Assassin
Rurouni = Vagabond/Wanderer
That said, the author mentioned that the characters are very much fictional, and he just decided to tell the story in that era. The Meiji era and war are quite real, but not much after that.
I honestly liked the manga more, since it allowed for better understanding of what the heck just happened.

I know the characters as well as the finer points of the storyline are fictional, but Kenshin's character is supposedly based on a sort of myth about four such manslayers. His character combines characteristics from what these four were allegedly like. For example, one was said to be easily mistaken for a woman. Take away Kenshin's scar and he looks like a woman. The scar was added to make him look a bit more masculine, which spawned a sort of side story. And yes, it is based on the actual Meiji era and the war that preceded it as I mentioned. I haven't yet seen the manga, but I'd like to check it out. However, I thought the anime was quite easy to follow.
Can't just just download it?
Hello, Neon Genesis collection.. Thanks WinMX!

It's 95 episodes long. I have a 28.8 kbps modem and a computer that's five years old. Downloading is not really an option. It took me 3 hours to download a Dragonball Z episode. Not to mention I have a 27" Flat Screen TV, Sony Home Theater System (575 watts), and a pretty nice DVD player in my room, which kicks the crap out of a 19" monitor with two stereo speakers. I'd really rather buy it.
Yeah, okay, maybe I was wrong about downloading.. :D
When you have a 100GB/sec connection maybe you could start downloading at the sort of quality that will beat your home theatre.

I've seen most of Rouroni Kenshin, and the movie, but I've seen none of it on Cartoon Network. IT KICKS ASS! Is it true that they redid some of the voices for Cartoon Network? That would suck, I like the voices that I heard when I watched it. I tried to tell Boon that it is a great show, and he said, "I don't care, it's on Cartoon Network, I f'ckin' HATE anime on Cartoon Network."
Ian, "You're a cunt."
Matt, "Why?"
Ian, "Have you ever seen the show?"
Matt, "No, but it's on Cartoon Network, all their animes suck."
The conversation went on for a little while till we both just dropped it, but it made me so mad. --~

I've only seen it on Cartoon Network, actually. It was still pretty decent (considering it was on Cartoon Network) but you could tell the violence was edited heavily. I've heard that they essentially massacred it, which is another huge reason I want to buy it. I have some friends that have seen it on DVD and told me about it. I've also seen some pretty sweet animated GIFs on some fansites I've been on, which definitely made me feel as if I were missing a lot watching it on CN. On a side note, Eradikatus has an awesome signature. FLCL definitely was amazing as well.

I'm currently trying to get a job to finance my purchase of the box sets (among other things). nextdayanime.com has the whole "special bundle" for $121.45, marked down from about $300. I'm not sure how that works, but it's practically risk-free to buy from them (read the policy; it's a great source for anime). Your anime is delivered next-day or same-day, depending on what time you place your order, and shipping is only $4.76. If your order is over $90, shipping is free. I could go on, but you get the idea. Check it out.

I think the OVA was far more beautifully done then the series. Very distinctive OVA and so much symbolism was involved.. and the music was just fantastic =]
btw, there's 6 episodes to the OVA, but if you did not watch the series, you'll probably not understand episode 5 and 6.

In my opinion samurai X is bad.
How come the animation was done real well the story was outstanding and the seconed movie Samurai X/reflection countinued it real well. What can you possable have against an anime that was done so perfectly in my opinion.
Speaking of Reflection am i the only one who thinks they should at lest make a series about Kenshin's son Kenji?

The fact of the matter is that there is still another two episodes, that 'disapeared' when the series was brought over from japan to the US. Episodes 96 and 97 more or less do not exist.
although at the same time....96 is just a review of the entire series, except for the last...three min. which, if anyone actually still looks at this page, can be found at the adress below. wow....the ending of it still is insane....even if you DO expect it.....97 still does not exist...

I love Ruro Ken. I have all of the mangas and DVDs (Including the OVAs). The story is ficitional, but some of the characters are real (Saito Hajime for example).
Watsuki did an excellent job on this story, andI will always be a fan of this series.
as far as i'm concerned, rurouni kenshin is the single greatest anime ever!
for anybody who really enjoyed the series, i highly recommend the book musashi by eiji yoshikawa. it's classic.
