I used to be really excited but then I herad they cut Saruman out entirely and they didn't even put consider the scouring of the shire. Still, I think it'll be a decent movie.

Of course. I loved the first 2 movies, and I know this one will be even better!

Saurman being cut out seems to be a bad thing. The cut scenes will be on DVD, but if they would have helped the move it will be mad. Either way, though, the movie should be very good.

Jackson said that the Saruman scene was supposed to be seen at the end of The Two Towers but we held over to put into Return of the King.. after thinking about it, the crew thought that the scene interfered with the pacing of the story and decided to leave it out. I don't think I really care, although people who won't watch the DVD will think that the ****spoiler*****

Ents killed off Saruman at the end of The Two Towers when they go nuts and destroy his fortress********SPOILER***

I hope it's much better in concluding the series than Revolutions was to the Matrix

I'm very excited about seeing this movie. Also, Revolutions was a great conclusion to the series, it couldn't have worked any other way...unless you would like to explain how you wanted it to end?

I'll take you up on that offer, Nathan. I would have liked to see the machines and the humans working together to build a new future for Earth, getting rid of the clouds, and creating a utopian society. Oh, and more great Matrix scenes. Revolutions had a serious lack of scenes within the Matrix.

I can't wait for this movie, either.

I've never read the books. so, I don't actually know what goes down like most of you

I can't wait for it. I absolutely adore the first two, and this one should be no different.

I am really eager to see this movie as I feel its the BEST trilogy hollywood has ever made (there isn't a crappy filler one).

Anyway, as for Saruman it looks like Christopher Lee is angry about being cut from the last one (which I don't blame him) seeing as it is rather important to the story. And what is an additional 10-15 minute scene added to a movie already over 3 hours in length? Besides, most people will never see the DVD with the additional footage, which is unfortunate.

you've never read the books, have you? it's actually a trilogy, if that's what you mean...which means that at the end of the third one there is no more.

you should probably read the books. it'd do you good.

moron.

*edit* i used moron here in the endearing fashion i have always used it. i feel it was justified, given the circumstances.

Man, you just aren't the nicest fella big buddy. Anyway, I can't wait to see this new one! I heard that they were going to show it in IMAX. I'm definitely going to see it there. I hope that somewhere near me they show the trilogy as a tripple feature. Maybe in the IMAX? Nah, but somewhere. I would definitely pay $20 and spend all day at the theaters. Yizeah.

EDIT: I didn't read the books either, but that's because I don't have the attention span. I do know how it ends though because I saw The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings cartoons when I was a kid. Those things were creepy dude, especially when you're a little kid. Awesome music though, awesome.

I was never a LOTR fan until like a month ago. At that time I saw The Hobbit (book) and I bought that and I'm reading that now, and I bought the extended version of Fellowship of the Ring.

I don't plan on seeing the third movie in theaters because I want to see the entire movie (with all the cut scenes) on my first time.

Boondock Saint

lord of the rings HAS to be seen in the theater. any other way is blasphemy to the world of cinema!

EEK.

Boondock Saint
12-04-2003, 09:46 AM
and i'd see it if it were FOUR and a half. there's no such thing as a spoiler in this movie. what, you think that the hobbits AREN'T going to make it to mordor or something? you already know what happens, even if you haven't read the books...

Can't wait for this movie, and I'm friends with a NZ chick who was a Hobbit extra and she's freakin hot! What does it have to do with anything? Nothing, but she's freakin hot and a Hobbit extra!

Hobbits are like midgets... and I don't think there's a man alive that doesn't have at least a slight midget fetish. Admit it, you love them!

I think this movie will be fantastic! I have been counting down its theater release for a couple months now! I wish I could skip class to go see it opening day, but I have a trip type thing I have to go on. Really bites... But that weekend I will be at the nearest theater with a bag of popcorn and a soda watching that awesome movie.

The Switcher
12-07-2003, 04:16 PM
It will be the best movie of the year, hands down.

And has far as trilogies go, LOTR far surpasses manufactured, over hyped messes of movies....cough, cough....that feature people dressed in black trenchcoats, where they fly....and can dodge bullets, and....talk a lot about nothing important....

Chrono Break

This movie will definitely compete well for movie of the year. It will be up against some tough competition though. And once again, I must ask, why can't we just save the Matrix stuff for Matrix threads? Why people, why? And I have decided that the soda will probably be a bad idea for this movie, as it is going to be long. I don't want to miss anything by taking unnecessary bathroom trips.

I've never seen Lord of the Rings (none of the movies). It looks liek a Star Wars-type movie but, ancient instead of futuristic. Is it really good?

you, i have decided, based on this and other posts you've made since becoming a member, are living under a rock.

and in response to your question, yes. it's that good.

and the books are better. but you probably don't even know there are things called books.

If you ever see the movies, do not read the books first, if you even plan on reading the books. The movies do not follow the books completely. A lot of people were complaining about how they did not follow the books. But I had not read the books so I found them quite enjoyable. They are wonderful movies and you should see them and get out from under that rock.

it's true that there are people who want more of the book in them, but i think that for the vast majority of tolkien fans the movies are a true blessing. anyone who says that it should've been done differently and doesn't concede that it COULDN'T have been done just like the books is a moron who doesn't know anything about the cinematic medium. it takes a lot of time to make any film worthwhile, let alone a film that i would venture to say tolkien himself would be proud of.

of course, the hardcore tolkien fans also bitch about how everyone's into LotR and it's all marketed too heavily and whatnot, and i just tell them to shut up. they suck...

Well, that is not the only reason I would suggest against reading the books first. The movies are a lot more exciting if you have not read the books yet, as it is a whole new experience and you have no idea what to expect next. It is better if you are surprised by the events in a movie rather than being able to tell your friend sitting next to you what is going to happen next.

Boondock Saint
12-09-2003, 12:12 AM
i disagree, because the readers don't fully know how things will turn out on film, and that's the excitement of it. i was totally surprised by the events of the first and second films simply because it had never been done before.

i highly recommend the books to anyone, though. they're probably some of the best things you will ever read in your entire life...

and it's better than star wars, just to clarify.

Yeah, the books are great. I would suggest them to anyone.

Ah, the battle of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Right now I know for a fact that LotR is whomping on SW. With the release of two mediocre prequels compared to two AWESOME movies from LotR, Star Wars better pull off miracles this next film.

Boondock Saint
12-11-2003, 02:39 AM
not to mention that both of the LotR films in current release are of cinematic merit, while the original SW trilogy only got 'empire' under its belt with that kind of respect...
