Anyone excited about all the new stuff they got coming out? Kingdom Hearts II and Chain of Memories look like great games. FFX-2 is sweet, and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is looking truly awesome. Looks like a great future for the best RPG company around!
Kingdom Hearts II, Damn that's gonna own. I loved the first instalment.

I'm more interested in seeing a bit more of FF: Advent Children. Though it is only a movie, the game was brilliant.

FFXI is pretty nice. And FFXII should go back to the roots, there is a lot of promise for Square-Enix :)

I have a question: is Advent Children going strait to video, or is it being released in the theaters?

Nope. It's going to be one of those dvd-only movies.
I think it'll be cool, anyways. I mean, back with FFVII, people were asking square to make it into a movie, then they made Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. While a decent movie, it disappointed many people. I think Advent Children is going to satisfy all those people who were wishing for a Final Fantasy movie in the first place.
But back in the day, square usually stayed away from FF sequels (any turn-based RPG could be a final fantasy, but most of them had crystals in common), but now they're coming out almost as often as the original games (maybe more if you count Advent Children as a sequel, although it's just more of a movie based on the events after FFVII. Can you count a movie as a sequel for a game, or vice-versa?)
Either way, I still trust square-enix. I haven't even even gotten into Star Ocean, Dragon Warrior, or any of the other games that came from enix's side, but I don't think I have to say any more about that--al great games.
I'd really like to reccomend an old SNES Enix game for people who haven't yet played it--EVO. It's a really great game, kind-of a weird style rpg, and really original. I was addicted to it for months, but I got sidetracked and haven't played it for years ^_^;;

I don't like Enix. There are only a few games for SNES of their that I liked, which were Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. I honestly believe Enix got the better end of the merger.
Has anyone heard any more on the potential that FFXII may be coming to the Gamecube?
Square is easily my second favorite developer, right behind Nintendo.

I'd love it if FF12 came to the Cube.

i would think that they would try and get Kingdom hearts on GC. I mean, after years of being called a kiddy system does it really make sense to hold back a disney game? Im sure it would sell great, possibly better than on ps2 but that may be stretching it

Yeah, Kingdom hearts was a very successful game. Now if they made it cube exclusive...

There's no doubt that FFXII will be PS2 exclusive, along with Kingdom Hearts. Square-Enix is going to stick Nintendo with the non-main series games. Not to mention if you want to play the GBA Kingdom Hearts, you need to play the PS2 original as it takes place before it, with Kingdom Hearts II taking place after the GBA one.

i wholeheartedly agree, and this is particularly the reason i own a PS2. i love square too much to risk them not releasing games on another system. FFXII will own, as will KHII and FFXI, which i have yet to play.
i also want to pick up FFX-2, as it looks very, very good, and all the reviews i've read have been positive.
has anyone played UNLIMITED SAGA? i was interested in it when it came out, and then never got around to having the money to buy it...

Yes, I'm very excited for all the new stuff. Square Enix is most defintitely my favorite developer and I plan to buy every single one of their games. FFXII is my most wanted game now.
And yes, I did buy Unlimited Saga and even wrote a review on it for an RPG site I work at. I didn't find the game to be all that bad, but it still has some problems.

Heh, don't fool yourself - Enix may not be big in the western world compared to Square, but over here they're MASSIVE. Every second-bloody-advert I see on Japanese TV is about the new Dragon Quest game, or that satanic sword controller that you can swing around in front of the TV. It's scary.
I heard Star Ocean was pretty good too. :]

yeah, i wish we got the Dragon Quest games here in the states, but they didn't sell too well last time they imported one, so i don't think it'll ever happen again. enix is a great company, though, and they're really big in europe and japan...
it just makes sense that they would merge with square, b/c they were really the only rivals of each other...

I agree in the fact that Enix got the better end of the Merger. But I do believe Square will be able to benefit from it as well. For all you poor Nintendo-is-the-only-company-I-will-purchase-videogames-from, you are going to miss out on some great games. Final Fantasy X-2, Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy XII, and many others. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children looks great. I am really hoping I will be able to get my hands on it when it is released. As for the movie business, I think Square did a good job with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. People just didn't appreciate it as much because they were expecting crystals, dragons, and swords. I found it to be one of the best movie experiences of my life!!

does Square-Enix make games for xbox...?

no. shit, they wouldn't be developing for nintendo right now if they didn't have the deal of nintendo's lifetime...after all, we all saw the havok it caused when FF didn't appear on the 64...anyways, it would've sucked...b/c cartridges were out the door by that time, and there's no way in hell seven would've fit on a cart.
but no, never for xbox, as far as i know...maybe XI...since xbox uses online capabilties...but...no.
is crystal chronicles for GCN gonna have online goodness?

i haven't heard anything on it, and i'd be very surprised if square delved into two online titles at once, especially since the launch of FFXI occured after they announced CC and didn't have a gauge on the market. it would be sweet if they did have online things, but i don't think it seems too likely.

No, there has been no news of FF:CC being online. It is, however, GBA connectible. Luckily I have one of those cables now. I picked it up not too long ago. I have mixed feelings about Square's jump back onto the Big N. The game looks good, but I don't know what really to expect. I hope it doesn't end up being really kiddy.

I bet CC will sell wicked good. Im gonna buy it. Thats interesting that the GCA kingdom hearts takes place BEFORE the first one, and then the one that they are making for console takes place after the GBA version . That kinda pisses me off, cause i wanted a sequel to the original KH. Can you confirm this info?

I was under the impression that Dragon Quest/Warrior VIII was comming to the U.S.
And if you didn't know, they did re-release DW I, II, and III on the GameBoy Color. All three are great games, in fact I prefer DW over FF.

Sorry but you misunderstood Nathan-GCA. What he said was that Kingdom Hearts for PS2 takes place before the GBA game. Then KH2 takes place after the GBA game.
The GBA Kingdom Hearts fills in the 6 month gap in story that takes place between KH and KH2.

My friend loves Kingdom Hearts. From what ive seen it looks pretty good. I'm pretty envious.
Here's a question: would Playstation sell well if they didn't have exclusivity for Final Fantasy? I know that Square-Enix is one of the main reasons that gamers went for the PS, as it has even been mentioned in this thread. But without this role-playing giant, would Sony stand a chance?
Boondock Saint
12-18-2003, 08:13 PM
i think so. they had capcom and konami supporting their system with awesome exclusive games (mostly b/c capcom abandoned carts for a long time into the 64's life) and sony made some very, very good first-party games (crash bandicoot, gran turismo, etc.). it may not have sold quite as fast, but looking back on the system, it would've eventually outdone the 64 anyways, as people were looking for an alternative to nintendo's announce-delay tactics of gaming...
and the bad games, let's not forget those...
simply put, the playstation was where the games were...first and third-party.

FF X-2 sucks, and Tactics is to easy. Kingdom Hearts is gay. Hopefully Final Fantasy CC and XII will be better. Advent Children looks good enough. We finally get to see what happens to Cloud and co. after their journeys end.

kingdom hearts is one of the best rpgs i've ever played, and i've played far more than my fair share. and i don't know which tactics you've played, but the psone tactics is hard as shit. and x-2 is good. i like it a lot.

Tactics Advance is easy as hell
I personally hate Square-Enix's view when it comes to developement. They seriously make a game with a strategy guide in mind. Pretty much any Square game from the past few years REQUIRES one for crap you would have never figured out with out one. Just look at FFX, how the hell they expect you to find the ultimate weapons or the secret islands once you get the plane?
Most games today cost 50$, Square games cost 65
