The Last Samurai is an instant classic that should NOT be missed by anyone. It is hailed as one of Tom Cruise's best movies.....ever....by me, and my family.
It has a great story, and one of the BEST scenes to grace a theatre. If you loved Devil May Cry's, or Matrix Reloaded's sword swiping battles, you'll love some of the scenes found in this movie. There's a lot of powerful moments in this movie, it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but all in all....An instant classic.
Go.....SEE.....It......Now.
Its worth your money, and worth the admission. I'd love to watch this in the IMAX theatre. I would love nothing more than to watch it on that theatre.

The Last Samurai looks to be about your average movie. From what I have seen from the previews anyways. I would like to see it sometime as it does look interesting. And why is it that someone has to bring up the Matrix movies in almost every thread? Can't we just leave them alone? Save the Matrix talk for the Matrix threads. Anyways, from what I have heard The Last Samurai was a good movie with a good performance by Tom Cruise.
^ Nice off-topic post there Boondock. ^ *cough cough*

It's an amazing movie, probably the best one I've seen all year, from a strictly (good movie) standpoint.
There have been tons of other movie I've enjoyed MORE this year, X2, T3, Freddy vs. Jason, etc....but Last Samurai has to rank as one of the best.
Plus it has Japanese chicks! Woo hoo!

I haven't seen it yet, but I heard it was incredible - right up unti lthe very end, where it apparently falls like lead weight in chocolate custard. Is that true?

i just saw this movie yesterday, and i've got to say i was impressed. there were several things wrong with it, though, and all of them had to do with it being made by hollywood and thus having to conform to the rules of the hollywood epic. once again, the white man is the savior and tom cruise doesn't die. it would've been a better ending to have him die, though, just for the record. i won't give away what actually happens, but let's just say if you've seen any other number of hollywood movies, it's very similar to all those endings. oh, but the battles rock.
i wouldn't say it's my favorite movie of the year by a long shot (lost in translation and kill bill are in the tie for that spot), but it's well worth the money to see it, despite the mediocre reviews.
