I must admit it. I've been a fan of Nintendo since I was 4-5 years old. I've always supported them, and I never even think of looking at another console when Nitendo is an option. N64 dissapointed a lot of people, but not me. I loved it. In my opinon, PSX had nothing on it.
The Cube. I bought it right up. I love it. I still do. Only Nintendo can deliever the Marios, Metroids, and Zeldas. So many awesome games.
But...Nintendo has disapointed me. Yes they have. Nintendo refuses to even attempt an online plan, because they say they are afraid of losing money on a lost cause. However, I think that the Nintendo higher ups have other reasons. I can almost guarantee that with the success of Xbox Live, the next Nintendo console will have an online plan.
And they took my favorite character (those who know me can guess by now) and made his next game into...*chokes*...a music game?! Why...why.....
I have other reasons, just no more time to type them. Gotta write an essay tonight.

Nintendo has also disappointed me lately too. Think of all the ports that the GBA is getting. All of the Mario games (except for Mario and Luigi) are ports of old Mario games from the 80s and 90s. And think of Metroid: Zero Mission. Nintendo needs more creativity in their next handheld.
And as for the GameCube, they're disappointing with the titles because they aren't innovating anything. A good example of this: Super Mario Sunshine. Yes, it was released a while back, but it's still something that can be discussed. Super Mario Sunshine only added one thing to the Mario formula, and that was FLUUD. Other than that, the game was basically a tropical version of Super Mario 64. And the Mario Party games, as well, aren't getting enough creativity to stay alive.
In my opinion, Nintendo needs to start thinking of some new creative ideas. We already know that they're working on an innovative console (they've said before that their new product is going to be different). But, will it be able to survive with the continuing success of Xbox Live? They'll need a lot of new ideas if they want to stay alive.

it is true that Nintendo has not always given us what we wanted, but I think that we shouldn't just push a game aside because it's a new direction for a character (I assume you're talking about Donkey Kong); moreover, Mario has games which aren't platformers, so don't worry too much.
As for online: I think Nintendo will get a strong online line-up and strategy when it thinks online play is profitable; the numbers I've seen for ther growth of online console gaming appear as rather small when compared with the numbers for non-online gaming.

I often think about how, if I had never discovered the internet. I put a lot of my video game disappointment down to the internet. I really enjoyed playing my N64 after schools and all day on the weekends. I never really noticed a "bad" game, I was just greatful that I had a game to play.
Fast foward to now, where I know more about games. I know how to pick out the faults like Framerate, and bad texturing and stuff, and I feel that it has/is slowly bring my videogame lovingness down. I tend to talk about videogames more than I play them. I also base a lot of my purchases on other peoples opinions, where as a few years ago if the box looked good, and the blurb at the back sounded good i'd save up for weeks and weeks getting it, and I would enjoy it not knowing that the game is utter tripe. Weird I know.
That's why i've been disappointed with the GCN. I think to myself, if this game were released a few years before, would I have like it? Probably. A GCN has never held my attention for more than a week, I play it a few days then just don't bother playing it anymore.
Innovative games don't get the credit they deserve. Game Companies put a lot of effort to release innovative titles, and most of the time they are well received by Harcore gamers but yet they don't sell as well as expected. It's the way the video games industry is going, more Casual gamers = More games that are good, but not good enough for Hardcore Gamers. As I mentioned earlier, we can see the differences and errors in games therefore are less likely to enjoy them (all IMO of course)That's how I feel anyway.
As far as online gaming is concerned it doesn't do much for me. I just don't see the fun to it, then again i've never tried it.

You have to try PSO online if your a RPG type of person...sounds pretty cool, unfortunately, in NZ that option isnt available yet

Another reason is Mario.
When Mario Sunshine came out, I loved it! I still do. Especially on hot summer days, I pour a big glass of fruit juice, turn on the fan, and play Sunshine! It's awesome!
But we were promised their would be a more traditional Mario for the Cube too. And since the Cube is supposedly the easiest console to make games for, then we should get it! But now there's rumors of the next Mario being held off until the next Ninty Console is released...just like SM642 on the N64.
They got 2 Mario Worlds for SNES. Why can't Cube get two Marios? Now there are probably reasons to delay the game (more time to mae the next Mario revolutionary or something), but I'd be happy with good ole SM64 knock off with new baddies and levels.

Yeah.
Miyamoto stated that there would be at least two Zelda and two Mario games (and i'm not talking about Mario Kart, Party etc) on the GCN ages ago.
Delaying Mario 128 till the next gen is a smart move if they make it a launch title.

Im just happy how fun Mario Kart is... This weekend is going to be fun. Thats one goal Nintendo made for me.
well expectations are in the eye of the beholder, all i can say is i've bought 20 GCN games in the last 6 months, that's more than all my n64 games put togeather. Donkey Konga excites me to bits, i'm eagerly anticipating Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia, hoping for a Skies of Arcadia 2. chomping at the bit for Mario and Luigi, and thinking of investing in a BBA if warp pipe and project kai come into fruition. you see disapointment, i see entertainment.
also jozenshin i whole heartedly agree, i feel the internet gaming comunity is damaging nintendo, on the whole the whole lot seems so damn negative and unwilling to look at the abundance of positives, stronger and stronger third party relationships, recent surges in sales, great titles on the horizon, personally i feel these greatly outway any form of online plan, xbawx live despite it's popularity isn't really a great success for microsawft, given the losses they have been encumbered with, which is the main problem with online, people want it but not enough are willing to pay the money necisary (me included)
my idea for online gaming is, make it similar to PC online gaming, have people host their own servers, hell i couple of spare PC's i could turn into servers for my friends, basically turn warppipe project into wpp version 2, which is the tool to run the online games (not convert LAN into online)

I have some similar thoughts as well too. This generation I have become much more knowldegable about games because the Cube is the first system that I have fully funded for myself (sans xmas and b-day gifts which I request specific titles). But that doesn't stop me from renting out titles that I find interesting.
I could be a mixed breed in that I can count the number of games that I have completed on both hands. But I play many games and have more knowledge than many people I know about them. Am I enjoying my time with the Cube, definitely. Could there be more, defintely. Nintendo keeps getting my money, I keep having fun, that basically all I care about.
