Dark Horse comics just re-released (a little while ago) the entire collection of Akira across 6 huge volumes. I read 'em all And would have to agree with you, this is probably the greatest comic book evar! Absolutely beutiful!

I've been looking for the movie (I'm just starting to get in to anime) and its pretty expensive (40 CDN for the single disk version). The comic store near here didn't get any Akira comics, I would have liked to read them...

The comics are pretty expensive too, each like 25-28$ US. About 160$US for all six volumes.

And the film, while it's good, it's not nearly as epic or as deep as the comic book:)
