Since the sites stil a bit buggy, it might be best to link your friends to the forums to register! Lets try and break 100 members by midnight pst!

It's pretty amazing that by the time I signed up, there was like 50 members, now we're almost at 100... and the place just opened! I say we also go for 500 posts or something like that.

Sean-AMN
11-19-2003, 07:49 PM
lol well this should be fun! I dont wanna get people spamming, so far not bad!

Matt

Do we get anything for refering people?

MoN

11 members in an hour isn't too much. But yeah, it'll happen before the night is up for sure.

How many people total did the old forums have? (old as in the last one, not the original)

JustUsOwls
11-19-2003, 08:01 PM
GCAdvanced.com still doesnt even work.

Shoxx
11-19-2003, 08:03 PM
Funny... it worked a while ago for me.

Sean-AMN

The server change over takes a while, and can be abit buggy. It should be all good tommrow!

Ahmed
11-19-2003, 08:16 PM
Damn I think the old boards only had like 300+ members...

The way we're heading is that we'll beat that record in about a week LoL.

I guess GCA has really grown in a span of 6-8 months...

Cirial-GCA
11-19-2003, 08:26 PM
If gcadvanced.com has yet to work for you, please reset your DSL/Cable/56k modems.. disconnect them so they power off, and then reconnect to the internet. Give your internet providers time for the DNS cache to initiate the change over that we recently made. All should be well for everyone within 24 hours. It looks like the change is almost done taking place.. for everyone.

Just 9 more! Keep this up we'll have 1000 by Christmas!

Shoxx
11-19-2003, 09:34 PM
Maybe not 1000... but if you guys had about 300 members in the old GCA... wow. You'll definitely beat that one quickly.

Sean-AMN
11-19-2003, 09:43 PM
With the contest we re having 500 might be no prob

MoN
11-19-2003, 10:05 PM
When GCA Forums went down there were around 800 or so members, give or take.

Shoxx
11-19-2003, 10:50 PM
Well, we hit 100 pretty quickly... it's safe to say that the launch went quite well... wouldn't you all agree?

I see a huge future for GCA... good job staffers!

Matt
11-19-2003, 11:41 PM
Yeah, there were about 800. Probably new GCA will get like 400 within the first 2 weeks.

JustUsOwls
11-19-2003, 11:42 PM
Yeah, if they get www.gcadvanced.com to work on all ISP's then definately.

Sean-AMN
11-19-2003, 11:45 PM
should work by tommrow Sam

Matt
11-19-2003, 11:51 PM
Sean, the DNS can take a few days for some people, espically smaller ISP's. bigger ones will be fixed faster.

JustUsOwls
11-19-2003, 11:55 PM
Comcast is a pretty big ISP though

MoN
11-20-2003, 12:05 AM
Generally they are slow though because they have a lot of members. Nothing to do with DNS, but it'll take them like 3 weeks just to come and install Internet at your house. I'm happy with BellSouth. I think BS (lrmfoflma) fixed it as soon as the DNS was fixed. It's been working off and on all day. Started working permanetly since like 7pm.

JustUsOwls
11-20-2003, 12:57 AM
Wow, this is a better launch then last time we launched the forums.

I think we had around 30 by days end.

111 is quite good.

Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 02:54 AM
120 already...once everyone can access www.gcadvanced.com, it will go up fast. I mean I'm still using hope.myidealhost.com...

I think we'll be able to get 500-600 by Xmas

Shoxx
11-20-2003, 05:53 AM
We've got 126 now (unless something's changed in the past 2 minutes). The old GCA never got this big this fast, did it?

Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 05:57 AM
When you open a site for the 1st time, its slow, but when you reopen, people are normally waiting for it, therefor more subscriptions in the one day. Anyway, the number will grow heeps in the next few days.

*realize hes not meant to say anything*

Shoxx
11-20-2003, 06:18 AM
Yeah, that's true too... I remember when I first opened my site, it was really slow. We had a couple members of GCA there (JustUsOwls, but the co-owner banned him), Sean was there, and a couple others, I think. But then we grew, and by the time we closed, we had about 140 members, and 10,000 posts.

Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 06:20 AM
out of curiosity, why did you close the site? What sort of site was it?

jozenshin
11-20-2003, 07:04 AM
It's all well and good to have a heap of members but if they don't post then what's the point?

This place, so far has been getting a bit of a workout considering.

I might start up some topics tomorrow :P

Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 07:07 AM

GCA is a pretty popular site, although I dont think it is as poplular as N-Philes...It could be if we tried really hard.

MoN
11-20-2003, 05:23 PM
I've heard a lot of stuff about N-Philes...such as the site is slowly becoming less and less in hits, and is slowly declining as a top Nintendo site. Yeah, might be rumors, but still.

GCA is pretty popular, but still it needs more hits. Maybe some more exclusive contetsts.

Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 05:27 PM
Theres something quite exclusive coming to GCA tonight, that people will want to see,a nd I mean really want to see. And to see it, you have to be a member...

Yeah. I remember a few months ago when you talked to me online and you were like "Go to N-Philes and defend GCA," and I was like "No, I can't stand GCA." (This was while I was still banned from the old forums)... turns out they had deleted my account there before I had the chance to do anything.

NickTheGamer

So does Brandon have a chance of comming back? lol even that there will be a fight between Carlos and him for sure that would mess everything up. lol

Shoxx
11-20-2003, 07:08 PM
I believe they had that fight at my old site too... Carlos eventually got banned for life... it was on Super Bowl Sunday, too... so I had to take a few minutes away from the game (Go Bucs!) to ban him.

...It's too bad the Bucs suck this year.

Matt

Banning is really overrated. People should show maturity in dealing with people who they think should be banned and just ignore them.

Anyway, this forum is growing really fast.

It seems that Vbulletin is more popular now than Ikonboard was. It seems it was a good move after all. Though I miss the Ikonboard ones (Babes thread *drools* - That thing was amazing. The GCA newbs missed something special there ;) )

Wow, it is growing pretty fast. What really needs to be counted is the number of active posters, because total members means nothing if no one posts :P

Just Gabriel

hey, at least they didn't go IGN or Gamespot and make you pay for full access. All you have to do is make an account.

Serj
11-25-2003, 04:10 AM
489 members. GCA just can't stop growing!

Shoxx
11-25-2003, 05:53 AM
Yeah, and creating an account here, takes what? 5 minutes? Compared to having to do credit card info. on GameSpot and IGN... please don't ever turn into them and start making us pay for access. I would be so mad.

Just Gabriel
11-25-2003, 09:24 AM
Yeah, IGN was awesome until they got greedy, so I turned to Gamespot. Then THEY started locking a bunch of stuff for Gamespot Complete members ONLY... what a bunch of crap...
So I mostly only go to GCA and Gamefaqs Forums for game info now. If they're going to make you pay for stuff, I'd rather have something I can keep, i.e. a Magazine

I'm going to remind the people I referred to this place last year that the forums are back up ^_^
Today we should have 500

Serj
11-25-2003, 09:39 AM
5 minutes, more like 5 seconds. When I register I just add my Username and Password, then I add all the other stuff when I've got time. This is gonna grow way faster than the others

JustUsOwls
11-25-2003, 09:41 AM

I have just checked, and only about 160 members have actually posted. About 1/3 of those have under 10 posts. Also, only 12 people have 100 or more posts. It's fair enough having lots of members, but having the majority of those never posting isn't as impressive.

Just Gabriel
11-25-2003, 05:59 PM
Yeah, well you have to sign up to get some of the content. So it really isn't so much a number of how many people are on the boards, but more accurately a figure showing about how many people visit the site regularly (I beleive the number will level out to a more accurate figure when we get more content that is member only, I'm guessing in about 3-6 months)

Plus, it's still really early into the board's life! Don't worry about numbers just yet!

Serj
11-27-2003, 06:14 AM
Another useless fact is that at the minute, 45% of posts have been posted by just 10 people (Top 10 posters)

Just Gabriel
11-27-2003, 09:07 AM
Yeah, but that will probably change. We'll always get those people who come to the site and don't post (but register to access movies and junk), butmore people will come that are dedicated members. Either way, the ratio will probably still be the same (number of people in the 45% of posts percentile vs the rest of the members)

Serj
11-27-2003, 11:30 AM
But even the posters haven't posted that often. Those 45% are from just 10 out of 160 posters!

Sean-AMN
11-30-2003, 04:35 AM
Listen the number of people int he community means a lot. Many of those people may have joined the 1st day we opened, and I think most of those will post... right now we have a healthy number of people who post a lot and that will grow over time!

Serj
11-30-2003, 04:50 AM

Woah. The old boards never got past 450, did they?

Actually, I'm okay if no more than say 150 post regularly. I'm all for expansion, but if the community gets too big, it gets hard for newbies to make an impact on the boards. :\

Boondock Saint
12-08-2003, 08:19 AM
newbies aren't making that much of an impact. hell, we've still got older guys that are still in the 20 count as far as posts go.

What I mean is, if you go and sign up at a large, 2000+ community, it gets quite hard (assuming you're an honest member, not a wanker or a spammer) to become a recognisable face.
