Hey everybody, beleive it or not, this thread is for talking about your favorite movie/movies of all time. I'll start it off. My favorite movie of all time is "The Shawshank Redemption." I don't really know what it is about it that makes it my favorite, it's just really good. That's the best I can do. Anybody got a favorite that's unusual or perhaps not largely known? It's always good to hear other people's opinions.

I love "Pulp Fiction", but most of you already know this. I'd have to say that right now "Kill Bill, vol. 1" is probably my fave, but I also love LotR (all of them) and "Lost in Translation". That's actually my favorite movie I've seen in the past two months (October/November), and it's slowly working its way into my top twenty or so (which is an archive of all things good to me). I imagine that upon a second or third viewing (b/c i'll purchase the dvd when it comes out) it will certainly be one of my favorites. it's just too funny/sad/beautiful not to like. I also have seen and liked "The Human Stain". lots to be learned there.
i've rambled enough.

I really wanted to see Lost in Translation, as I've always been a big fan of Bill Murray. He is a comic genius.

It was good, I saw it with my big ol' buddy Matt. Bill Murray is a genious man. He's just so good.

indeed, bill murray IS a genius, which leads me to one of my other favorite movies ever: rushmore. that movie makes me laugh harder and harder everytime i watch it. so does the royal tenenbaums...

OH MY GOD! Rushmore is so f'cking hilarious. Some people hate it, I really don't think it has to do with intelligence so much as it has to do with bad senses of humor. Matt's right, every time I watch it I like it more. I bought it without seeing but like 20 minutes of the end on Comedy Central. It was on sale for $15 when it was normally around $36-$40. WHAT A DEAL!!! I just couldn't resist. I bought Fight Club without ever seeing any of it, not smart, but a good decision none the less.
Favorite Western: "Tombstone" but it's probably the only Western I've seen. DOC HOLIDAY LIKE A MAW!!!

Some of my favorite movies are:
Scarface - One of the hottest crime movies of all time, Pacino is the man.
28 Days Later - I originally thought it was a flat out zombie movie, but when I watched it I found it to be an insightful look into human nature.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Has to be one of the, if not the best action movie of all time.
That's it, some of my favorite movies.
I like the Star Wars movies, The Lord of the Ring movies, and the Harry Potter movies. But I can't pinpoint one single movie that I like the most, at the time being.

fair enough. i'll agree with you on all of those, even though i don't like the harry potter books, i think the movies are decent enough.
Oh, I like the books better than the movies. People have their differences, though.

Um... Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Yay someone else loves it too!)
I also love Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones Trilogy, and Back to the Future Trilogy. Goonies rules too.
I like Indiana Jones movies as well. As for Back to the Future, I only like the first two.

GOONIES! *truffle shuffle*
I would have to say my top three are:
1) Aliens - best action movie ever IMO
2) Requiem for a Dream - I am stunned everytime I watch this movie.
3) Halloween or Dawn of the Dead - I can't decide, I watch them both so much on DVD.
Goonies would be up there but Goonies is more than a movie.. it's a lifestyle

i love the alien series. and the others you listed are very, very good as well. although, being a fellow bruce 'the man' fan, i would expect no less from you...
i still don't get why the goonies is so great to everyone, though. i like it, but i don't think it's quote unquote "the shit"...
One movie that everyone should see at least once: The Majestic. It is one of Jim Carrey's best, IMO.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail will always have a special place in my heart.

except that it's sooo goddam boring...i mean, it probably WOULD'VE been good if frank darabont (who makes a good flick...) had gotten off of his high horse and decided to chop about an hour or so off of it. it's soooooo long.
of course, it isn't offensive, and is relatively schmaltzy and heartwarming, so i can see why you like it.
i love all the monty python flicks, but i find that both 'life of brian' and 'meaning of life' are better films than 'the holy grail', which gets the most attention b/c of endless showings in college dorm rooms...
plus, it's the least offensive of them all.
The only movie in my entire life that i REALLY wanted to see was MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS so I'll give that my favorite movie (although I liked many others)

I do not have a favorite movie. I have many movies that I have enjoyed a lot. But if you consider the movie you have seen the most times your favorite, then mine would be Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I also enjoy the Lod of the Rings movies, the Marvel movies, Star Wars, Scary Movie series, Bond movies, Terminator series, and I am sure there are other movies in there as well that I like. The list could go on for quite awhile.
Final Fantasy was pointless and boring, IMO, and the only Scary Movie that I really liked was the first one. Haven't seen the third one, though.

You have to see the third Scary Movie. The first one was excellent, the second one was good, but not half as good as the first, and the third one was hilarious! I laughed so hard inthe theaters when I saw that movie. You have to see it sometime when it comes out on DVD. You will enjoy it if you liked the first one at all.
No comments on your opinion on Final Fantasy. We are all entitled to our opinions. *evil eyes*

final fantasy was a good flick. sure, it wasn't as 'final fantasy' as we might have liked, but that's all that really held it back from acceptance. the concept wasn't what people were expecting.

Jurassic Park might be my fav, but I'm not sure. Then Star Wars Indiana Jones and Goonies. Like PG said, Goonies is a lifestyle.

ˇPandillas De Nueva York! I mean, Gangs of New York! This movie is one of my most favorite movies of all time! I'm watching it right now with the Scorsese commentary. I love commentary. The only part I find that detracts from the sheer orgasmic pleasure of watching this movie, and my brothers agree, is Cameron Diaz's performance. Although I think she perfectly fits the part of a trashy Irish street urchin, her performance is less than par. Her accent is all over the place which is just completley out of pace with the rest of the character's accents and gives her performance a very low quality. However, this movie is so good, that fact is completely overlooked when I place it on my list, it helps that her part really isn't very big, too.

Lord of the Rings trilogy is definitely my most favorite, even better than the Matrix trilogy or Gladiator or the Last Samurai. But if the category is something funny, refreshing, then definitely Forrest Gump is my choice.

I know I have a favorite, I just can't think of it right now. I loved A Christmas Story, The Matrix (the original, the other two are great but they still can't compare), the Shawshank Redemption, and Liar Liar, but I know none of them are my fav. It's somewhere in my head but nothings coming to me.
Edit: Actually, I just realized that my fav movie is The Matrix. I thought there was something else better but I can't think of anythng that can top it.
