View Full Version : Using the Nintendo DS as a PDA?
I remember reading, somewhere, that there is PDA software in development for the DS. Does anyone have any info on this?

If it could somehow synch with outlook, I'd be forced to lay my Ipaq to rest.

Unfortunately I couldn't dig up any information on it for you but that doesn't mean there isn't any in development. It could just be hush-hush until a later date. After all, the DS has the obvious abilities for it and given that Nintendo said the DS would be a third pillar I'm guessing that could also be taken as the DS' focus just won't be games like the Gameboys. We'll have to wait and see.
If there was PDA software developed for the DS I would definately buy it.

A lot of extra features (web surfing, phone usage, PDA, etc.) are possible with the DS. Nintendo is first making sure it is a solid game system like it is ment to be before THEY are looking into other areas of use.
They open the table for others to work on stuff like that though but at this time nothing is confirmed in the works.
Yes, there is a company that is make full programs for the DS so the DS will have PDA functions, I remember reading about it.

Well, there is already homerew PDA software out for the GBA (and I think I read about a livensed third party app somewhere too) so there's no doubt that somewhere some developer/programmer will decide to write one for the DWS, and likely with internet surfing capability, due to the DS's ability to connect to WiFi.

well, if the DS is a lot easier for programmers to use then yeah, everything is going on this. I once had a GP32, way ahead of the GBA and since it was open for programmers anything could be on there, even a windows style OS and divx media player.

as an adult i will shameless-ly show off my DS in public, this is definetely a mans toy (and with Feel the magic xx/xy it gets no better as i rub *****) and seeing the menu display and some of its empty slots its a sure shot that PDA sofware is in DS future

It can be used as a PDA. One third party company is making a PDA software for it.

^They could add alot:
-Voice recorder to MP3 file
-Daily Planner
-Notes program with text recognition
-Email Software that connects to a specified POP server
-Spy software...I have an app for PocketPC that makes the machine appear off, but when people talk it picks up their voices and starts recording in stealth mode. Super fun!
The possibilities are endless.
They can do just about anything, and web surfing would be awsome. :).......micrsoft please support nintendo and release internet explorer DS

I DEARLY hope PDA software pans out...I just lost my Tungsten E a few weeks ago, and I'm not going to drop $200 for a new one, especially when I got the first one the month of release for $179:(

As a Mac owner (I hate PCs, LOL) I would rather see Mozilla FireFox for the DS. Safari is quite a disappointment. ;)
they are all the same, but IE is more compatible with all forms of website scripting. My sister has a mac and she even has IE for mac which is great.
O yeah PC's PWN

IE is too slow, regardless of the platform. It's an old, outdated browser that is contstantly being outperformed by Mozilla's alternative line of browsers.
