Sony swings a hard punch to Nintendo's head. (http://www.video-fenky.com)

"The first purchasers of the PSP will be adults. For the Nintendo DS, it will be the kiddies."

Nintendo Comes back with a jaw crashing uppercut (http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=7759)

"Let me tell you something," bellowed Fils-Amie with something of a glint in his eye. "Those little women at the Tokyo Game Show with those portable consoles strapped to them… What you didn’t see is that those women were having to go recharge the batteries every two hours!"

Thanks to Readykilowatt from another forum for finding these quotes.

I read about this. I'm always for Nintendo. But that guy from Sony. Yeah piss off mate. What an idiot. I think that he is saying that because he is cynical and also jealous of the DS and its menacing amount of 3rd party support.:)

OMG just read what Reggie said. He is the MAN!!!!

Sure some would believe that I'm a fanboy but hey. I'm right. Sony is playing dirty just like Nokia.

Only adults will buy the psp because they are the only ones who can afford it. And even then they are making a pretty stupid descision.

I think Masatsuka Saeki knows that Sony is going to get beaten so they are trying to distance themselves away from the DS, to look like they are not competing :D

Meh, I honestly think the Sony guy has a point. The brandname SONY has essentially become synonymous with mature, cool gaming technology. Whether that is the reality or not, it is the public perception. The fact that the PSP looks like a sleek piece of hardware, gaming-related or not, also lends some credence to the statement, as aestehic design is generally more noticed - and important - to the older crowd. Finally, Sony's advertising has been directed at the older crowd since their introduction into the industry, and it has always been effective. Now, does the fact that more older gamers will buy the PSP mean that more people, on the whole, will buy a $300+ piece of hardware? Probably not - but at this stage I think Sony just wants a piece of the handheld market, not market dominance...yet.

Lets hope that they fail. I mean they are as bad as Nokia. Like Nintendo says they are the underdogs. Plus they have poor ideas on the handheld industry.:)

Sony just has no idea what they are doing they think just because people bought ps2 that they will buy a psp. Sony is just trying to sell using their name. Gameboy has gone us against a handful of systems that were more powerful and has always won

Nintendo and Gameboy are simultaneously associated with "handheld". The DS will own.

I know a bunch of people that love their ps2's and don't like the gamecube but they still love their gameboys. People will but the ds because it will have the reptuation of being the best just like how people but the ps2 or xbox because people thing it's better.

Very good point. Same with game consoles and Sony:mad:. So you will be able to hear people saying that the PSP is from Nintendo. lol

. Sony is playing dirty just like Nokia.

Down With dirt up with Production... and yes they do (for some reason)

If you look at it, Yeah all the little kids will probably get their parents to buy them a DS but the aim might not be toward them at all. They are driving toward older fans with games like Metroid or some other games. Of course Nintendo will have some games for children if a gaming company doesn't have any games for kids they will lose valuable money from the parents of children who would buy those games. But nintendo wants to make theyir games suitable for all ages so that in turn a wider ages group will buy. (Ranting)

In Closing...

I dislike Sony :D

I hope that they are aiming for the adult audiences. Yesterday I saw the new GCN 4th quater add. Very mature. It seems that they are trying to aim for a more older market. Good on them. They have plenty of games that they can sell to the older people.

The DS will sell like hotcakes because of it's market dominance. So many have tried before, and they've all failed in the face of the almighty Nintendo. DS is set to blow PSP out of the water. Especially because of the price point and earlier availability.

Good point, definetly. I just hope that your right. Especially with the 3rd party support and price. Plus inovation add in with the mature marketing campaign and we have a winner. Oh and the PSP is coming out after it.

Frankly i belive that even though Sony are trying their hardest they will fail against nintendo for many reasons such as price

Sony has had some clever marketing stratergies. I honestly think that most of them are quiet misconceiving. Am example of this is the FMV use in teh old PSX ads. With Reggie on Nintendo's side the console battles are looking up for Nintendo.

Good point bruz. I mean that was cheap cause they couldn't compare to the N64 and now they use real human footage. What a cheap trick.

 How can the DS have market dominance, if it is essentially a third pillar and has not been released yet?

Also, I wouldn't shrug off the PSP as another NGage just yet. Nokia was new to the gaming business, but Sony is a major player in the market. Still, I hope for Nintendo's success.

I know DS will beat the PSP. I mean Nintendo knows what they are doing cuz they have made other handhelds before. But Soney this is a first for them. For all we know they could end up screwing their first handheld up.

But I'm sure the PSP will be good. But IMO the DS looks as if it's going to be much better.

Both systems having wireless connectivity is a big plus. The DS is backwards compatible, which for me is a huge bonus; it’s amazing that Nintendo can still include the same format for their handheld consoles. I like the idea that all the money I have spent on games since the original Gameboy is still being used today, plus when I buy the system, I’m not going to be forced to shell out extra money for a game so I have something to play on it.

The main thing that concerns me is the proprietary media used for the PSP. Rumor has it that Sony is hoping that this format catches on and soon music and movies will be released using this media. While watching a movie on the PSP sounds interesting, if I were spending money on the movie, I would rather buy the DVD. I suspect that since the UMD media is proprietary it will affect the production of games as well. Game companies won’t be able to press their games to this format, once the final product of the game is done, it will have to be pressed by Sony, and retested to make sure everything still works. Also because of the hardware in the PSP and the shear power of the graphics, it is rumored that the PSP will cost a pretty penny. As nice as it would be to have the power of a PS2 in my hands, is it worth spending the amount of money that I could use to buy a new console?

-Sinteres..

what i think is funny is that psp is sapose to superior in graphics but due to battray problems sony is urging makers to devople games in 2d because 3d takes up more battray life

Sega was a major player in the market. The Gamegear failed bigtime even though it was superior to the gameboy in every way.

You guys are underestimating Sony again. I did it the first time not again, I see Nintendo as the underdog on this one, eventaully I will get a DS but I wanna see what both have to offer. I used to think price points mattered but, Sony said it, adults have more expendable income then kids do therefore $300 is nothing for a really sleek handheld. I do like the aggressive style Nintendo had with the comeback but, it was pretty weak. I hope both companies try and out do each other with advertising and throw tons of money around to get ours!

The reason the Playstation did so good is that Nintendo and Sony were working together on a n add-on for the snes. When Nintendo dropped Sony, Sony ran with the idea. So when you think of sony, remember where it came from.

I believe Nintendo will beat Sony, just because Nintendo has made handhelds before and there for are very experienced in the handheld market.

Simply put, Nintendo>Sony.

bXr Groove
10-24-2004, 03:22 PM
I don't think that is the case, because if you say that then Gamecube would beat PS2 because Nintendo has made more consoles then Sony. I do agree that Nintendo>Sony though :)

But in the handheld war...DS has the edge with is price alone!!!
