Thank goodness the DS software will cost around $30. I don't think consumers would want to shell out more than that for a DS title.

So, besides the multiplayer aspect of Super Mario 64x4, is the original single player game included?

Seth

original single player is included...my theory is that it will be similar to mario bros 2 and different characters could be used instead of mario in single player and they will have different abilities

Well I'm not sure about having all the same as the N64 version, probley will, but I know one of the new features is that the game is going to have mini-games.

I'm still a little disapointed by the DS lineup but now Crush seems to interest me a little bit. Who wouldn't want to play out the Sketchy Ex-Boyfriend scenario...

even so, its called advertisement or "ad"

Eh... Mario Pinball Land really isn't very good. It's fun to start and the graphics are great, but the physics make things as simple as getting the ball just to an opening at the top of the screen really annoying and difficult. There's a good concept behind it, i.e. turning mario 64 into a pinball game, but the physics horribly ruin the game. I couldn't stand to play it after about an hour.

Da Ruckus
10-11-2004, 03:23 PM
yeah, I heard it wasn't a good game at all. IGN was right on this game, also on MK DD, this mario kart game is not so good. Its okay but nowhere near as fun and cunning as MK64 or the GBA game.

I'mSuperAwesome!
10-11-2004, 10:16 PM
the hell?? mario kart double dash is loads of fun. i didnt buy it, but my friend bought it and i borrowed it from him (im a cheap bastage). I must have spent a whole week perfecting my record on the DK jungle stage. too bad i lost my memory card, id tell you what my record was.

Da Ruckus
10-11-2004, 10:21 PM
It just wasn't challenging, at ALL. Once you get into it, its too easy. I mean, its so damn boring getting 160 points on that 150cc All star Circuit something something... I forgot. Also when you get hit you don't even stop, you just flip and keep on going, way too easy.

edit: Furthermore the karts are really out of proportion, so when you come down the finish line you (or someone else) always has the advantage, its strictly all on who can hold the A button the longest.

brian23987
10-11-2004, 10:25 PM
Yeah it is too easy to use a heavy kart and just ram a lighter kart. I's a good game just not as good as MK64.

Darkreaver
10-13-2004, 04:31 AM
the maker of mk64 = mk snes = mk gba

mk dd = someone else

i think the timelimit has something to do with it that it issent that great...

Just found this story on the NoE website if anyone's interested...

Nintendo DS: President speaks!
12.10.04

At a recent Tokyo press event, we staked a front row seat to hear what Nintendo President Satoru Iwata had to say about Nintendo's feverishly anticipated handheld console, the DS. Initially the Nintendo President spoke about how the Nintendo DS came into being, talking about Nintendo's desire to "invent a new structure of entertainment" and give "everyone in the world, regardless of age, gender, gaming knowledge or gaming experience, the chance to enjoy the machine."

On the console's two screens, one of which acts as a touchpad, Iwata commented: "It is possible for the player to watch the top screen while controlling through use of the lower touch screen. Where up until now the player would receive guidance and other game info by using the controls to display a mode screen, through the use of the two screens, just by moving their eyes slightly, players can get the information they need clearly and completely displayed." He continued: "Having an easy to understand and manipulate 2D screen and a powerful 3D screen displayed at all times and allowing the player to decide which of the two screens to use is only possible because of the two screens on the DS."

Iwata also gave some enticing info about the DS's built-in wireless system, which offers the potential to download games through thin air. For instance, using a play style Iwata referred to as "Game Sharing", multiple players will be able to play together using a single Game Card. Iwata stated that Nintendo is pushing for titles that will support this feature, and confirmed that several of the games due for release when the DS launches will include the Game Sharing feature, referring specifically to Super Mario 64 DS and a music game called Band Brothers.

Another amazing use of the DS's wireless functionality was revealed in the shape of, as Iwata put it, "a never-before-seen compatibility between the big screen and games." Basically, just bring your DS along to the cinema and new game data is downloaded wirelessly while you watch the movie.

Iwata explained the first instance of this would be in a forthcoming Pokémon movie. "During the film there are scenes where exciting Pokémon are introduced and at the same time as this is occurring on screen, related Pokémon and other materials will be sent to the cartridges of the individual moviegoers. This is the first time such a system has been used anywhere in the world."

This technology isn't just limited to cinemas either. Imagine walking into a games shop to try the latest DS title and walking out with a demo of the game downloaded wirelessly to your handheld!

"We plan to make it so that not only will players be able to try out games in the store, but they will also be able to download demos with play limits or time limits to their own DS," explained Iwata. "By doing this we hope to reduce the number of games failing to get the exposure needed to grow, and ultimately introduce new games to the rankings of the hit charts that have primarily been occupied by sequels."

Iwata concluded with a promise that "At this time in Japan there are currently 46 companies with 117 scheduled titles. Additionally, there are many more first, second and third-party titles in the works, which cover many genres and make use of the all the DS system's capabilities. Nintendo plan to have a total of 14 titles on the market before the end of the year in Japan."

Rounding off the event, Shigeru Miyamoto bounded onto stage to rapturous applause, where he proceeded to showcase several of the DS's most anticipated titles (and a few surprises). First up, the venerable Shiggsy introduced a stupendously cool game, tentatively titled Nintendogs, that lets the player communicate doggy-style, using the DS's in-built microphone and touch screen to train the dogs in this adorable virtual pet sim.

Other titles given a brief showing were Super Mario 64 DS, which improves on the original game with 30 more stars to track down in the single player game as well as the addition of multiplayer hi-jinks. Sega's Yuji Naka joined Miyamoto to demonstrate a game called I Could Die For You, which can be played using the stylus with just one hand. Naka demonstrated how players could blow out the candle on screen by actually blowing his/her breath onto the touch-panel! Naka also confirmed that a Sonic the Hedgehog game is in development for DS.

Next up was Akitoshi Kawazu of Square Enix, who revealed that the classic role playing game Final Fantasy III, which first appeared on NES, is currently being developed for the DS. Then Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of the Pokémon Company, took the stage to showcase another Japanese DS launch title, Pokémon Dash. He revealed that by adding a Pokémon game to the GBA cart slot, new courses would appear in Pokémon Dash, before confirming a new title, Pokémon Diamond, is currently in development for Nintendo DS.

All this, plus Miyamoto confirmed that a new Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords title was also in development for the handheld. Sweet jumping Jehosophat but that's good news. The Nintendo DS is currently set to arrive in Europe in early 2005. More the second we have it.

Awesome! So this means that the "Game Sharing" HAS been confirmed?

Monkeylord
10-13-2004, 06:46 PM
So it seems... also I find the comments about free auto-downloaded demo's VERY interesting, and the fact that the touchscreen is sensitive enough to detect someone BLOWING on it can make for some very interesting games!

Da Ruckus
10-13-2004, 07:45 PM
yeah, I downloaded a japanese press video and the chick was blowing on the thing. So I wondering if she was one of those people that think by leaning the controller left it will help them go left more. But EVERYONE has said the touchscreen is simply amazing. All for such a low price and since Nintendo can just use the money from the Rare buyout its not really a loss at all.

Daniel
10-24-2004, 11:36 PM
Yes the money from Rare should come to an advantage a big one. I reckon that Nintendo shall use it on marketing stuff for the DS and use some as a keepsafe for the upcoming consoles. The adds so far are sweet as. I love the 3D gamecube thing that is cool.

wooow.........it can sense blowing?????????
omg///////////

chipotleattack
11-18-2004, 09:42 PM
Uh I don't think the touch screen senses blowing. I think the built-in microphone picks up the sound of air rushing to it and that causes a reaction in the game. This is demonstrated in Donkey Konga, when theres a long line of the "clap" notes. You can pick up your Kongas and blow into the microphone to get the most possible coins/claps from it. Blowing into the microphone makes a noise, so it makes sense to say that the DS will do the same thing.... and I doubt the touch screen is THAT sensitive so that it can pick up your breath on it, because that'd be kinda bad for like....somebody with asthma or something? They'd have to blow hard for continuous amounts of time, and that'd be bad for Nintendo. They'd lose some customers or get sued from somebody passing out from blowing on the screen too much. The microphone could pick up sound from blowing on it much easier than the touchscreen could.

EB Games in Hollywood...ah too bad I already preordered my DS at my closest EB, or else I would've been there before midnight and seen all the rabid fans like me....and some Nintendo bigwigs probably. If Reggie goes and I find out that I missed it, I'll be pissed...

Dorito_Joe
11-19-2004, 08:04 PM
well for those with asthma they could touch it...........those with healthy lungs could breath.....think of that?!?!

No, the screen can pick up high winds, I've made this happen. I can also make fires start from sparks using this method. Forest fires... burning people!
