I listen to a lot of Rock. It turns out the rock I like has really depressing lyrics like Slipknot or SOAD. My favourite style is Nu Metal, because those bands sing about depressing stuff in an uplifting way

I listen to Trance and Rock...

Rock
- Blink 182
- Cauterize
- The Ataris
- All American Rejects
- Switchfoot
etc...

Trance
- Airbase
- Ferry Corstrn
- Armin
etc...

Jaga

Have you ever heard of Trance Music? How can you get any more energized? I dont think any of the songs I named are depressing.. its good music... Blink 182 - Feeling This, how is that song depressing? Yea, I know.. im just being the white boy that I am... But, listen to some trance... some rave style trance is great as well...

Serj

Jaga: Well, I think I can relate to the depressing music, because I'm a very depressed person, so it doesn't really make me feel or perform any worse. I don't play sports that often anyway. I don't understand what you meant with "if you play sports, exciting music energizes you alot" so if you could rephrase that I would explain it but I can't make any sense of it ;)

As long as a song has a good melody and harmony I can listen to it. However, right now I usually only listen to music that has very proficient musicians; so as of now I listen to a lot of jazz, classical and metal (NOT nu-metal though).

Trance is a part of Techno... Like, Punk is part of rock. Trance is a different style of techno... It's been around for a long time now...

I like Metal and Nu-metal. I'm like Serj, i can relate to the lyrics somewhat. When you hear someone sing about what you've experiened it make you feel beter knowing your not the only one thats had to deal with it. Also the anger driven riffs really help to get you pumped, if that what you mean by energising Jaga.

jozenshin
11-29-2003, 09:36 PM
I will listen to pretty much anything. I have "stages" where I'd listen to Punk for months then Metal etc. It just depends on my mood really.

Jaga
11-29-2003, 10:19 PM
we'll not that kind of energize... although its great if your a boxer or something... energize as in you can go faster and not be mad and stuff... like feeling good and stuff...you know... its hard to explain...

i like techno in my racing video games... sounds cool....

I like all sorts...I don't have a specific genre I'm really into...

Limp Bizkit
The Corrs
Papa Roach
Smashing Pumpkins
Stacy Orrico
Linkin' Park
Nickelback
Destiny's Child
Puddle of Mudd
Mariah Carey
Tu Pac
Avril Lavigne
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Coldplay
Missy Elliot

And a whole lot more. If it sounds good to me, I like it - whatever genre.

well, right now i'm listening to (albums on my playlist):

radiohead - the bends
missy elliot - under construction
stereolab - mars audiac quintet
'lost in translation' soundtrack
the ramones - ramonesmania
'kill bill' soundtrack
dido - life for rent
björk - debut

i think that's a pretty good gauge of what i listen to. although i don't have any jazz or new rock on it right now. whatever, it's good enough.

I like rock in it's various forms, but I'm like the one dude who said that he goes through stages. For a few months I'll listen to hard rock, then trance, then punk, then whatever.

As for bands:

Blink 182
Limp Bizkit
Linkin Park
NOFX
The Offspring (my avatar)
Green Day
Bad Religion
Metallica

And usually when I go through my stages, I pick up a new band to listen to each time. Right now, my stage is definately punk.

Tom DeGuru
12-03-2003, 10:10 AM
Corey, dude! I'm liking ur tastes. But i'm more punk all the time, then sometimes alternative and maybe metal. My faves are:
Blink182
Incubus
Box Car Racer
AFI
Metallica
Blink182
and Blink 182
Besides the last 2 Blinks, that list is in order, top to botton, greatest to least. Btw, anyone here have the new Blink album? It's their best yet and my fave of all time. GO GET IT!

Boondock Saint
12-03-2003, 10:36 AM
i think their new single sounds like shite. just like anything by sum-41 or any handful of pop-punk bands. if all songs on the albums sound as bad as that, i won't be picking it up.

i think that the term classic rock should be abolished. it's non-descriptive, and if you think about it, zeppelin and skynard aren't anywhere CLOSE to the same type of music...what do you guys think? i love classic rock as well, but i'm just saying...it needs a different descriptor.

Nah, I think it just applies to all rock from the late 60's to the early 80's.

Boondock Saint
12-04-2003, 03:30 PM
well then, why isn'ta ll newer stuff classified as "modern" or some other blanket term? the classification should say something about the music specifically, like modern or post-modern or renaissance art...see what i'm getting at here? it has a specific motif or belief behind it, precisely as contemporary music does, and so-called "classic" rock certainly does.

Bands like Himsa, Hatebreed, Lamb Of God, Everytime I Die, etc. ........................

I have been known to listen to many different sorts of Music, but I mainly listen to Rock of all sorts. I really hate some of today's crappy music. The only Nue Metal band I ever liked was KoRn, I don't really care for what they sing about, I'm not an angry depressed person.

I do love that new British band the Darkness!(I am aware they've been around for awhile in the UK) OMG America needs to wake up and get The Darkness now, I think I'm the only American who absolutely loves these guys!

My all time favorites have to be

Led Zeppelin
Nirvana

Megadeth
Metallica
Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage

Sworn Enemy
Korn
SOAD

actually, the electronic music genre is so hopelessly jumbled up at this point that it's almost impossible to figure out exactly what's what. electronica is actually a subgenre of it all as well, and that's just the beginning of it.

techno
house
prog house
trance
prog trance
drum and bass
big beat

the list goes on and on. i say techno is the most well-known of the genre (being that it was started back in the seventies by Kraftwerk, still one of my favorite bands ever, although the guys that are really popular (fatboy slim, paul oakenfold, etc.), tend to be in the big beat category).

Yes, he released an album called American IV: The Man Comes Around. It's an amazing album, I still listen to many of its tracks daily.

It contains that hit "Hurt" song that you've probably heard everywhere. It should've won male video of the year at the MTV Video Music awards. But everyones favorite and most talented artist won. That's right, I'm talking about JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE! He's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo talented and he doesn't sing like a girl. I swear.

Any body heard Urban Assault Vehicle by Limp Bizkit? It's the rollin remix w/ Meth, Red, and X (aka red man method man and dmx). Best song of the bizkits. I hate punk rock. they're all a buch of whining children.

I don't like the UAV remix of Rollin'. It sounds too...rappy.

yeh, if you don't like rap you won't like it, but I think it sound really cool and makes me wonder whats going on between that redneck(dhurst) and a bunch of black guys. It's odd the kind of friends he has beeing who he is. I'm not saying it's bad, but it is strange.

Yeah, I agree. I like the more rocky songs Bizkit does. I do like the slight mix of rap, which you can see in Linkin Park too, but I don't like it when it leans more towards rap. I just don't like the genre, that's all.

I like my Rock and Rap almost equally. If you disect the lyrics in some songs, they deal with the same things, just one has guitar riffs and the the other has turntable skratches and samples.

Rock:
Linkin Park
POD
System of a Down
The White Stripes
Rob Zombie (only realy one song, Dragula)
wanting to listen to some Rage Against the Machine...

Rap:
Outkast
K-OS (small time Canadian artist)
Ludacris
50 Cent

I'm into bits and pieces of most stuff. From your list, I'd pick Beyonce/Stacie Orrico/Evanescence/R. Kelly :)

Who's Norah Jones? I've never heard of this bird. Jaga, have you heard anything by Sugababes? They're a British girl band, I think you might like some stuff by them. I do. What a shame they're gonna split. Or have they already?

Anyway, check out their album Angels with Dirty Faces if you get the chance. I believe their website is at http://www.sugababes.com :)
