Hi!

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our upcoming Star Fox game for the Nintendo
GameCube.

As you know, this game is estimated for release in November of 2004. As such,
we do not have many details to share about its features. Since I can tell that
LAN play is important to you, I will make sure your e-mail is shared with the
appropriate departments within Nintendo for review.

Currently, there are two online compatible games on the market--Phantasy Star
Online: Episodes I and II and Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D.
Revolution.

As a hardware manufacturer, we strongly support our third party partners in
their online gaming efforts and have equipped our system to support online play.
We hope to see some additional online games from our partners in the future.
However, as a software manufacturer, we have decided not to release any online
games at this time, as the online gaming audience remains relatively small.
Although we feel that widespread online gaming is a couple years away, we would
like to assure you that we will continue to assess the popularity of this
feature on an on-going basis. We will also forward your feedback regarding this
issue so that the appropriate departments are aware of your level of interest.

We are very excited about Local Area Network (LAN) compatible games and I
wouldn't be surprised to see more in the future. The concept of interactive
play with other fans is something that Nintendo has always supported. We've
released thousands of fun, exciting multi-player titles over the years, and are
now supporting even more options for competitive play with LAN compatible games.
Most importantly, however, we realize that interactive play is very important to
our fans. Stay tuned to our official web site (www.nintendo.com) for the latest
information on upcoming online games, as well as future LAN compatible games.

LAN would be good, but I myself don't have much use for it...

Yeah, nintendo has replied to a few of my emails in the past, but it's always been a typical customer service answer. Try to appease the writer while giving little or no real information, and avoiding their real question. I wonder if people in high places ever even see some of these letters...

Yup, sure can, but it's really unstable. the public testing version of 0.4.2 can have up to 8 cubes.

Their wasn't a running version of this before the release of Mario Kart: Double Dash was their? From what I heard, two Gamecubes can link together via internet through Warp Pipe and that the frame rate was divided in half (60-30) with Mario Kark: Double Dash. This is the first time I've heard of more than two Gamecubes linking together through Warp Pipe. In fact, this is the first time I've heard of more than four Gamecubes linking together at all.

The frame rate actually depends on the latency of the two players. For example, if you decide to play with someone in your own town and under the same ISP, you can actually acheive a full-speed game. However, if you're playing someone across the state/province, or even moreso the country, your game will slow down a considerable amount.

That's unfortunate. Too bad Nintendo just wouldn't go online and please many a gamer.
