I'd have to go with the following 10 animes... (in order for me - series + movies are FULLY seen)

10.) Love Hina - One of the funniest comedies I've ever seen bar-none for any entertainment medium ever.

9.) Trigun - He's so badass... yet his character and personality fooled even me. Great series.

8.) Record of Lodoss War - Akira would be here... but everybody has that on their top 10 anyway. Felt like a video-game RPG, never lost steam - focused and plenty of characters and things to follow in the series.

8b.) Princess Mononoke - The best of Miyazaki - one of the first animes I've ever seen - awesome storyline not to mention the animation

7.) Outlaw Star - Who can agree with me that this is probably the most entertaining pure action/space flick ever? Maybe it's not as big as Evangelion, Macross, or Vandread... but this gets the nod simply because Gene Starwind is the coolest name evar.

7b.) Tokyo Godfathers - one of the well-balanced anime movies I've seen in a long time... who can forget the characters, seriousness, and best of all - the ending?

6.) Vandread - Funniest GUY vs. Girl anime. Probably the only one lol

5.) FLCL (Fooly Cooly) - Craziness, wackiness = genius.

4.) Wings of Escaflowne - I see NO PROBLEMS in this anime - everything flows together... the story is focused and never loses its touch - and the characters are absolutely memorable.

3.) GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka - Probably the most "real" of the main characters in this top 10... yet unbelivable in so many regards. An anime about teaching - yet being so good - totally took me by surprise.

2.) Fushigi Yuugi - Haven't finished yet - but the opening and ending of each episode is magnificently done. Best of all, it's the most addicting episode hands-down - very very very little filler.

The first series I've ever finished...

1.) Cowboy Bebop - it sparked a revolution - a mix of American and Japanese themes into one - and who can forget the characters - all of which you rooted for the entire series... mix that with a killer ending, revolutionary music, and never before seen animation for its time - you've got in my opinion the best anime series ever made.

Azumanga Daioh - Perfect characterization, very novel approach, fantastic interaction, well-written dialogue and characters you don't want to part with; everything right with Anime in one nice package.
