Somehow I doubt that was an earnest thumbs up; more of a "Way to be, asshole", thumbs up.

I tire of people implying that because folks fight to defend rights people should feel guilty for exercising them.

:/ Um, what war are her sons in that involve protecting your rights? Did only I pick up on the fact that The Iraqi War is not World War 1 or 2?

HGW XX/7
10-09-2008, 08:09 PM
^You're not the only one, it's just that nobody cares that it isn't World War 1 or 2. It's still a war, and I believe the last poll of Americans say a majority would prefer to see it finished rather than just pull out. I'm not going to try to make an argument that we're fighting to give them rights, 'cause that's a load of crap. We're not there for something so noble.

Granted I don't believe our rights are being threatened by Iraq, but pulling out of the area is a Catch-22.

Edit: And I don't think many people really refer to it as the Iraq War or the War in Afghanistan anymore. It's just the plain ol' "War on Terror". One could argue that fighting terrorism is fighting for our right to life (by taking theres [irony]).

Smokey
10-09-2008, 08:22 PM
I haven't heard anyone using the "War on Terror" except when they're talking about how bad Bush ****ed up. Just about every other time it's the war in Iraq. Of course, I never hear about Afghanistan in everyday conversation, so I can't comment on that.

I hear "War in the Middle East" the most, personally.

Someone should tell those people that Afghanistan is part of Asia....

Smokey

Technically, so is the Middle East...

EDIT: OMG, Jews are really Asians!

Wow that was just beautiful. While I'm sure she was thinking, hopefully this shuts that jackass up, it still was also right on the level of the word because he has a right to say that and be defended for it.

Of course her reasoning is wrong, it was just cool to see her to act fast on her feet. So now she's on the level of the common college student.

We still haven't win the war on drug yet... or the war on gangs in Chicago. It'd be nice to finish a war once in a while...

I'll admit that was an entertaining, fast action spin from a skillful politician...who's views area couple of steps down from Islamic extremism.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. But yeah, tactful move there.

There is nothing cool, smart, or sharp about what she said. It's the same response most people from military families give to show that they are somehow above the nay-sayers.

"My friends... yaddayaddyaddayadda." - McCain
"...(nobody cared 'cause it's Biden)..." - Biden

It's sharp for her considering most of what she's said spontaneously has been... not that sharp. But I agree with your attitude towards people who deal with the anti-war crowd like that.

The danger in calling the whole shebang 'The War on Terror' is that it abstracts away a number of different conflicts under one umbrella term. Suddenly strawman arguments, that the justification for one conflict applies to all of them, are more persuasive to the uninformed.

Actually the Obama one I saw at Spencers did have slightly larger ears and slightly more pointing chin, but was funny is that the skin had this slight greenish tint to it. I can only imagine it'll probably end up looking like one of those resident evil 5 zombies.

Well folks, it's going down tonight. Reports indicate Sarah Palin is going to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live. With Josh Brolin (W.) as host, we have the makings of a perfect storm.

I laughed so hard during that Weekend Update Palin rap I shat myself. Amy Poehler is a god.

Tanooki
10-19-2008, 12:37 AM
I'm with you on that. I kept on SNL to see what would happen and the entire show was awful until then, not one laugh, and parts I had to flip the channel as it was making me feel weird even trying to ignore it's stupidity. That rap with the moose and her getting down to it behind the table there was amusing.

Lucas
10-19-2008, 01:15 AM
The VP candidate for the Republican party, sitting with Seth Myers, nodding her head to a pregnant Amy Poehler rapping in front of Eskimos and shooting at a guy in a moose costume (which came out of Conan's prop closet) with awesome canned sound effects...all on live television.

Favorite moment of the campaign.

And yeah, SNL is usually about that retarded. But hey, retarded humor is the kind that makes me laugh. That explains why I'm such a Robot Chicken-aholic.

Your affiliate dropped NBC? What the hell? The old-school cable TV system really needs to die. I can't wait until the telecoms loose power when the internet makes their business model obsolete.

Z.E.I.D.A.N
10-19-2008, 01:21 AM
Yeah, it's ridiculous. We're gonna switch to AT&T though, coz for the same price we get unlimited HBO, Showtime and Cinemax.

Until then, Hulu is my new NBC.

Man, international licensing laws suck! Nobody here has heard of SNL; I only got hooked on it in the States, when I'd watch it on Hulu. But they and NBC both use geolocaiton software, so you can't watch it from outside the US... they have three-year-old repeats on The Comedy Channel, but I won't even have that when I move out of here at the end of the month and lose cable :(

Lizzaroni
10-21-2008, 11:40 PM
She's pregnant???

*hasn't seen the news rap*

Z.E.I.D.A.N
10-22-2008, 12:58 AM
Yeah, sad thing is she's leaving SNL after she has the baby, which is expected right after the election. SNL keeps losing the good people.

At least there's still Kristen Wiig. I looooooooove Kristen Wiig.

Lucas
10-22-2008, 01:44 AM
Yeah, but you get used to it. SNL is a revolving door. Besides, Amy is getting her own TV show next year I believe.
