View Full Version : Nintendo Big Announcement = Realistic Zelda

Can it be true? I was determined to find out...so I put my inspector gadget routine into action. After contacting many different sources, I finally came up with Nintendo's oh-so-big secret.
A new realistic zelda game. Unfortunately that is all I know. But, at the same time shortly after .... Matt C of IGN pretty much spelled it out through a horrible trick in the forums. Shortly after, his post was deleted. Having his post support my findings... who knows, it might be true.
A new realistic Zelda title? I'll let you guys speculate and explain.

I'm liking the idea of that but... isn't it too little, too late? Actually, no, its not. If they have that during the show and it looks as good as it should, Nintendo just might have unleashed the sleeper hit everyone's been waiting for.

Very interesting indeed. It is something that (some) Nintendo fans have been clamoring for for a long time. Not only that, many in the general gaming audience have been asking for it.
We shall see in just a few days.
Vinny-AMN

If they can indeed make the game look AND play like nothing before ever seen, then hell, Nintendo will have Game of the Show.

Where the hell did you come from Ray? Don't do that... all of a sudden just appear and say "There's More..."
Do you have ANY idea of how creepy that is man?
Robert-AMN

LOL vinny.
And we all know Game of The Show doesn't have to be playable *coughdoom3cough*. :P

I'm sure there will be at least SOMETHING else. Like Mario 128 or what ever it is called.
Basically it will be like e3 from a couple years ago when nintendo shows off their biggest franchises, .... only sequels.
Ray-AMN

I seriously hope that Nintendo surprises us with a return of another franchise... because signs right now point to yes.

Hmmmmmmmmm, REALISTIC Zelda huh? soooooo........ if Zelda, is realistic... does that mean, no elves, or fairies, or magic, or monsters, or time travel, or other intelligent races, or talking inanimate objects, or little kid traveling the land by himself and not only surviving, but defeating all the forces of evil in that land, or captured princesses with no ransom declared?.....
Nah, maybe it means you have to find things to eat, like snakes :)... Oh, maybe it just means that the cel-shading has been nixed. Guess we'll have to wait til E3 to find out. --~

Mad Skill,
If you're right, then you have just spilled the biggest secret on the web.
The anticipation is driving me mad.

05-07-2004, 05:42 AM
Even if Matt deleted his post could you give us a general idea of what he said that sorta spelled it out? I mean he did say that whatever the announcement was that it would make pretty much all Nintendo fans very happy and the only thing I see doing that is an aquisition (which it isn't) or the return of a beloved Nintendo franchise made in a way that is simply awe-inspiring. A realistic Zelda does fit that bill and Nintendo did say a Looong time ago that they had 2 teams working on Zelda games way before Wind Waker was released so the second Zelda game could not have been Wind Waker 2.
I say its a very good guess but I need more of a confirmation than just your confident word. Besides wouldn't everybody who knew about it be under a severely strict NDA?
EDIT: I just thought about it the second Zelda game could of very well have been Four Swords so that throws my theory out the window. I am indeed curious though.
Messiah
05-07-2004, 06:00 AM
Yeah its a pluasable theory, we'll see in a few days if it is infact true. Maybe we'll get a realistic Zelda with cel-shaded graphics, that would rock IMO :D

You guys will DEFINITELY hear about it first on GCA here on Tuesday during Nintendo's Press Conference.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for Tuesday... May 11th at 11:00 AM PST / 2 PM EST.
Updates straight from the press conference, with video of the entire thing to follow shortly after....
YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS. Once again... 11 AM PST... 2 PM EST.
All Nintendo fans will want to anticipate this one... and I expect all you loyalists to be on the site and find out what Nintendo's really been brewing. This is Nintendo's FUTURE... and I really truly believe that this is their time.
All revealed... TUESDAY MORNING.

CHEAP Plug ;)
The conference is 2PM EST? I think we are 5 hours ahead of that time in the UK so that would make it 7PM here. It better be!
And the whole thing about this realistic Zelda...sorry, I will not be one of the Nintendo fans that will be overly pleased like Matt has insinuated if this is the case. I've never really gotten into Zelda, but DID like WW. I'd like to see the style retained for part 2.
Hopefully the announcement is something else...like a new game starring YOSHI. That would rock the foundations of the gaming world.

You must be talking about a certain game i have on my mind but i will not name it coz you might want to answer it ;-)
Don't worry i'm definately keeping my breath but its nice to have a hint when its needed.....especially only a few days before the BIG one.

Man, I'm going to be home on the 10th, that means I'll be watching good ol' G4. I didn't have it last year when E3 happened, but I'm sure they do a big *** all day event with up to the minute coverage. Oh man, that channel sucks usually, but this outta be good.
Man, you know what I just realized, Nintendo suckified Zelda :(. Hate to say it, but it looks like it's true. That other new Zelda game that's going to come bundled with 4 Swords, with that pirate Zelda, and I think you look for treasure or something really lame like that (as if you didn't look for treasure in normal Zelda games), it look totally suckified :(. How could they let that happen? Not Zelda, but apparently they did :(.
They suckified Kirby, Star Fox, and now Zelda. They stretched Mario to the limit, so they decided to suckify Zelda.. is nothing sacred?
If they suckify Metroid, I'll kill them, I will. I don't really see them doing that though

Sorry guys, but I really doubt it will be Realistic Zelda. Not for the Cube atleast:
1. Nintendo already confirmed WW2 in development and will use WW engine. Ehouma said that two month ago.
2. Nintendo won't release two Zelda's on one System in short time peroid.
The only reasonable idea that it is Realistic Zelda is the fact that in the announcement of WW2, it said it will release 2XXX soo .. it's maybe was just a joke .....
I think it will be something diffrent. We already know Nintendo bring FireEmblem and Wars series to the Cube. I think they will show of Mother 3 for the Cube(the one which planed to the 64DD) and Kid Icruse, both for the Cube.
The big "WOW" will be on the new Add-On to the cube. It won't be Online, according to IGN .... but I had good feeling about it.

Yes, just like everything else Sony has ever come up with, with the exception of the EyeToy
Actually, Sega came up with this concept YEARS ago with their own "DreamEye" for the Dreamcast. There is even a rumor saying that Sega's new Eye Toy game was originally intended for their own "DreamEye" device.
Dude... didn't you hear. Sony stole conectivity and they are going to use it as a big focus with the PSP, and everyone is going to say how original sony is for creating conectivity... watch
I totally agree. Even the people who complained constantly about GCN and it's connectivity will now be the same people to praise Sony for doing the same thing.
Dear Lord the press is so corrupt.
And speaking of corrupt, although I desperately want this rumor to be true, I must consider the source.
I know from good authority that many people at Nintendo are NO fan of Matt Cassimisina. In recent years he has fallen from favor with many of his Nintendo sources.
I personally think he is constantly negative and never has anything good to say about Nintendo. He can't even write an article about Nintendo without mentioning X-Box. When I called him on this issue he replied:
"Well just dont read it, I dont care!"
So, I'm taking this rumor with a grain of salt.

But rest assured that we'll have everything up as soon as humanly possible.
For those skeptics, believe what you want... but if you're a true Nintendo loyalist - you should know better to never give up hope.
The coming years for videogames will certainly be critical... but exciting ones at that.

Don't get me wrong, GCA will no doubt get the story just as every other site will -- but GCA just isn't that great on keeping promises. I just don't think it's appropriate to claim you'll have it on Tuesday and then when Tuesday comes and Nintendo doesn't make an announcement (hypothetical, of course) that relates to any such "big news" GCA will look like a joke (sorry, it's true).

What was wrong with Fusion?
Anyway, Nintendo needs to have a good showing at E3 this year. At least I think so. I really doubt it will be online. Didn't someone from Nintendo say that they had no plans to go online? I'm with Rott, I'm still waiting for Too Human. I think Nintendo's main feature will be the DS. How could that NOT be the main feature? A new system? At that, it's a completely new system, not just the next generation of an old one. Yeah, I think DS will be Nintendo's strong point this year that they put the most effort behind. --~

Chance of a New GameCube Accessory = 100%.
Thats old news.
BTW, Metroid Fusion Rocks!!! So does Zero Mission.
Oh, I almost forgot. I don't want a realistic Zelda. I liked the cell shading.
If it will shut up all the whiners then fine, let them release a "realistic Zelda." However, personally, I'd rather have another Cell-da.
One last thing, Matt Cassimisina = 0% Credibility.
(He's also disliked by many Nintendo employees. Poor Matt, maybe if he had a better attitude.)

Grow up man. Ray is excited and am I. 1) I didn't get fired. You asked me to stop being so negative and I told you no, and therefore quit. And we agreed it was mutual. (BTW, considering I didn't do anything for the month before you "fired me," I'd say I quit a month ago...)
2) I am 17 -- not old enough for E3.
3) I could get John Olin to get me in E3 IF I was 18...
4) You're only upset because everyone on GCA has called you gay-looking.
5) Grow up? What's there to "grow up" about? Or do you mean be more mature? Oh.
Every SINGLE time Ray has posted "THERE'S A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT COMING UP ON GCA" on the forums, he has failed to succeed. Don't look at me like I'm stupid. Ask any forum member... And when he has "succeeded," it has ALWAYS been days and days late, which is why I told him not to pick a DAY/DATE.

I didn't PROMISE anything - not any special announcement or anything like that. Hell if you don't believe me... I'll put my JOB on the line to make sure that we get updates as the conference progresses... you have my word on that - for whatever it means to a measly flamer like you.
ALL I promised was UPDATES from the show. Live updates during the show is all I'm worried about.
I'm surprised you took this to the extreme MoN, as it was unecessary.
As for you calling Ken "gay-looking" - that has to simply be one of the most immature statements I've read in a long time here in the forums. Do us a favor... go home... and keep your mouth shut until the beginning of the E3 press conference.
And as for missing deadlines - LIST THEM. I've missed a few here and there... but you have to understand the limits of NDAs, Embargos, and plain ol' work. If you actually worked for GCA, you might understand... or not.
I'm surprised you're still posting at this FORUM when all you have to say is ALWAYS negative. Not a good thing... unless you're a Democratic Senator. If you have something bad to say - don't target it towards someone else... target it towards a game... company anything like that. We ain't a daycare.
Thank you.

You could get Olin to get you into e3 huh? How do you think Olin got into E3? Who do you think he is staying with and in what hotel room?
Yeah....
lol, you're hilarious, Ray. If you think I am "lying" about how you fail to deliver, please go make a thread about it in the Off-TOpic forum. Please. Just see what people think.
And my apologies for saying you "promised" that it would be on the site. I don't know about you, but a promise, to me, is when you say something will be done. And, you know, you posting "there's more..." really helps your situation, doesn't it? Just look at what Ken said. He claims you know nothing. Hmm...really?
But I don't want to argue with you. My statement about Ken was immature and while I would apologize, it's true. Is that NOT why the first news story was deleted? Because people insulted him? I thought it was. Excuse me for thinking it was if it wasn't.
(Although Ken jumped way out of line stating I was fired, that I wanted to go to E3 (I can't, nor would I this year), and a bunch of other, trivial things.)
BTW, just because a mature Zelda game may be the announcement that does NOT mean WW2 isn't the next game. FYI, an announcement could be made before Nintendo even TRIES to create the game. Really...

Awww, I'm gonna close it before it turns ugly again. :)
You're not the issue about news. It's Ray. He's the "News Team Leader" and he's the one who posts it. Why you would defend him is beyond me. Sure, he works for GCA, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he has left forum members down with news. He shouldn't post until he can back up what he claims.
BTW, don't close this. I just won't reply anymore. <3

We'll deliver at E3. We'll leave it at THAT... and you guys can judge for yourself at the end of next week.
And MoN, don't take it personally, but I'm just backing up Ken here. Being that I've met him, he ain't gay - and that's that.
Let the flaming or PRAISING begin for Nintendo next week. Once again... THAT'S THAT.

LOLOLOLOL ^^ Aye, Ken's not gay (obviously! :p) - just a wee joke...
Ray's right; he didn't promise anything (even if he did sorta hype up the meeting a bit ;)).
I know what Seth was talking about (sorry, I'm too lazy to quote): if Nintendo makes the "mature" Zelda that everyone seems to want, it'll leave no room creatively whatsoever. So what'll they do after that?

Mr. Cauley, I must say that you called that one quite nicely, and now, we're looking at a realistic Zelda in 2005! That, along with the unveilings of the DS, PSP, and the announcement of Sega publishing The Matrix Online, had to be the biggest shockers of E3. (Sarcasm on The Matrix Online part)

I doubt Nin deliberately planned it this way, but releasing a "realistic" Zelda after a risky and abrupt change to the graphical style after SpaceWorld 2000 may have actually helped Nin.
Look at Mario, they didn't change the style at all they just upped the power. And regardless of how good the game actually was, the one thing you kept hearing was "its more of an evolution than a revolution." And while TWW is no revolution to the Zelda franchise, it was sooooo different that people didn't hardly look at that aspect of the game....and when they did, I saw more people focusing on the benefits, bonuses, additions, and new meathods of gameplay and mechanics than comparing it to OoT or MM. It was all very positive once you got past the huge graphical change.
Now, they have a new "realistic" Zelda that has been severed from the direct bond TWW had (and it WOULD have had) to OoT and MM. They will undoubtedly still be referenced together, but you won't have the connection that really could have brought the game's hype so high if compared to OoT that no measure of excellence and perfection could have done anything but disappoint. Now, RealZelda will have a chance to stand on its own.
And, since it is still using TWW engine, it will most definately be more closely compared to TWW, giving this game a huge advantage for the very beginning.
Lastly (o.k., not really, but the last thing I'll spend time mentioning here), there is pure public reaction. The severe backlash Nin got after initially unveiling TWW will allow for a "we forgive you" attitude from those that swore off Nin at the time. From those that wern't so outspoken, its still a huge plus in the effect that, while TWW was an excellent game (and my favorite Zelda), people still looked back at SW2000. Nin didn't screw up after all, TWW sold very well and generally people were pleased...all the while generating underlying anticipation for realzelda. If anything, this should boost TWW sales. Now people can say "I don't mind this so much now that I know about realzelda, and that Nin hasn't abandoned the older fans." In addition to this is the fact that Aonuma revealed realzelda (before we knew it would be "realistic") would use the same engine as before but with a new Link model. Everything he said was 100% true, but people instantly assumed "same engine" meant same graphics (and don't start lecturing me about translation variation errors). Boy did they fool us. This whole event just proves that Nin can keep a secret better than any other game company, Hollywood, your best friend, or the government.....combined.
I've always had faith in Nin, but pre-E3 it was wearing thin........now I KNOW they are the best game company on the planet.......LONG LIVE NINTENDO!!

Guys GCA called that... well b4 hand... and MON get on your hands and knees and say sorry to ken and ray...... you got pnowed
No, I didn't. GCA STILL was not there (site was down, I mean) to cover the story.
Like I said. Ask McBizzel.
So GCA didn't even deliver to its fans about the conference, as GCA promised.
Not a very good "pwn," if you ask me.
Forums were down the entire time too. Server was slow. XboxAdvanced was awful...
You guys should be bowing down beforee your "fans" and pleading with us.

Okay lets list a few things:
1) We couldn't update the site during the press conference because it was down. It was down because we had unprecedented traffic at the site. We were there, we tried to update with the cell phones as modems, but it was down. We tried getting on contact with the server host but he was unreachable.
2) Forums were down in order to maintain putting up news and media. It was either that or nothing at all.
3) Server was slow because we had the first videos of in hand gameplay of the DS up that night. I sacrificed my whole first day workin on those for the readers. Everyone and their mothers were trying to get the videos thus slowing the server they were on and the site.
4) We were doing XA's coverage as well. If it was not for us being there they wouldn't have as much as they do have. Also it is still getting its feet wet. New staff is being added still. It will be just as strong as GCA by next years E3 for coverage.
There was a lot of stuff going on there and behind the scenes that you don't know about. The internet access for the entire hotel was out on the first day of the conference, phones weren't connecting. Just be happy we gave you what we did. Its a hell of a lot more for free than anyother site out there.
Actually, I know a lot of "behind-the-scenes" stuff and a lot about how servers work. That doesn't excuse the fact that GCA was still down and didn't deliver like RAY was saying...

Nothing we could do for fans wanting to see our site. Other than hope they like it, and our servers don't explode.
Now other than the site going down... tell us why else we couldn't deliver.

Now stop talking before you put your foot farther down your own throat. I don't HAVE to be there to understand the common sense in how servers work and how the site was slow and down. I talk with several staff members so I DO know the "behind the scenes" stuff you refer to. You may not believe it, but I don't particularly care.
Sean, GCA did not call it. And I never, ever said realistic Zelda would not be announced. Ask Ray, even though he was a very hard conversation. Read my posts, whatever it takes. Get it through your head: I never said anything about Zelda not being announced.
Anyway, as I said, GCA did NOT call it. IGN did. Ken, as always, took what IGN said. :)

Deepthroater! (Sniffles and shoots a bullet through the Gae avatar on the computer screen) I bet you don't even understand the pains of maintaining a website that has tons of traffic everyday. And you can't put it on GCA that the site was down. Like others have said, there was a lot of traffic. Now, shut the hell up, and go back to your avatar maker, and get rid of the Gae, please. Anyways, GCA did a great job of covering E3. I came here more during E3 than any other site.

I'm definitely closing this now. Besides, the topic is about the announcement, which was already made.
If you want to talk Zelda, there's a thread for it already. And if you want to talk GCA's performance at E3, there's also a thread for that. So er...yeah.
KTHXBI. :)
