Who's your favorite superhero team and why? Any old reason will do. I pick X-Men, because neither the Avengers or the JL have Gambit, Nightcrawler, or Colossus. Plus, the only DC hero I'm really fond of is Batman, and maybe Green Lantern, so the JL loses on that count.

Normally, I would say X-Men, but since Gambit isn't technically an X-Man, I'll have to take the Avengers, what with Thor and Iron Man.

Explain.

Also, I seriously thought about taking Avengers over X-Men, but Thor is only one superhero (even if he is a god, and my favorite superhero to boot), while I like many more of the X-Men than the members of the Avengers.

The Green Lantern Corps.
This isn't a poll with an "Other" option. You have to choose, dammit.

The JL is weak sauce. They suck. Gotta go with x-men. Granted the last time I really read the series was in the 80's, but those were some great comics.

X-Men because they have Wolverine, Cyclops, and Phoenix.

When you say X-Men, who exactly are you including within that group? I'm only asking because there's been different people in the actual team throughout the years.

Personally my opinion none of them, I dislike almost every super hero team. For myself I fill it’s a quick way to cash in on already meaningful characters, Comic books, Manga, Anime and original ideas in a cheep manner. I find distaste in both. In fact I only like the first X-Men film to tell you the truth. I what more Iron man not the Avengers super Hero team personally. We will see if they can make the film worth while and meaningful on the Avengers but tell then I stand by I dislike both.

Justice League coz Superman and Batman are fighting together.

But Superman isn't that great of a superhero, so your reasoning is weak.:P

I didn't think of that. I guess I was thinking of those that were featured in the animated series as well as those in the X-Men Legends games. I've only read a few of the comics, so I'm not exactly certain how the teams were composed in those series. The people I'm thinking of are:

Wolverine (duh)
Cyclops
Storm
Professor X
Jean Grey/Phoenix
Gambit (who may or may not be an X-Man, depending on whether I accept Rorschach's reasoning)
Beast
Nightcrawler
Colossus
Magma
Iceman/Bobby Drake (I can't remember if his codename is Iceman or not)
Shadowcat
Jubilee
Rogue
Archangel

I know I'm leaving some out, either through ignorance or because they aren't technically members of the team. Feel free to bring up others if you think of any. BTW, do Cable and Bishop count as X-Men?

I'm not talking about which TV show or movie is better. I'm talking about which team do you like more, be your experience be with comic books, movies, TV, or other forms of media. But I am looking forward to the Avengers movie, as I'd like to see how they handle that one and who they put in the movie.

x-men

innate abilities > acquired abilities

To be fair, I don't think you can bash the other two teams too badly for that. I can name Avengers and JL members that had their powers for their whole life. I'm inclined to agree with you, though.

For the most part, that's not common.. and it's typically mystical in nature.

X-Men, definitely.

Batman is my favorite DC hero, but the X-Men rock him.

The X-Men win with my vote too. Second would be the Avengers, but really the Illuminati would be second if it was on this list.

I hadn't heard of the Illuminati until now. The only ones I really like are Dr. Strange, Professor X, and Iron Man. But yeah, X-Men still win.

I'm gonna just completely nerd-out on you guys for a minute, I used to be really into comics as a kid and I've finally found an opportunity to use that knowledge....

All three of the groups are obviously formidable. The Avengers bring Thor and Iron Man to the table, but Captain America is someone you're all overlooking because of his intangibles. He's probably the most inspirational figure between the three groups. With ability so closely matched that could matter more than you think. But in the end I think the incredible depth of the X-Men, and the superior abilities of various Justice League members, would make the Avengers a non-factor in any conflict.

So now that we've narrowed it down the argument really comes down to this: do you think the sheer power of Superman, coupled with the cunning adaptability of Batman, could overcome the relative weakness of the rest of the Justice League? Those two can be compared favorably to any X-Man(or woman), even Wolverine, but beyond that who do you have? Aqua Man? Wonder Woman? Not very impressive. While Superman/Batman could arguably defeat any X-Man in a 1/1 contest Professor Xavier can toss out Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, and Phoenix immediately and follow that up with a wave of B-teamers like Colossus, Rogue, Nightcrawler and Gambit. If that fails you've still got Beast, Psylocke, Iceman, Archangel, etc.

I think in the end it's difficult to argue against the X-Men. To vote anyone else you have to basically believe that Superman/Batman alone can overcome the entire X roster, which is just tough for me to swallow especially when you consider Superman has a weakness that can in certain circumstances completely remove him from contention.

Now is this said with only a particular team in mind, or with all the Avengers (or at least most) in mind? I still think the X-Men are superior, but I don't think the Avengers are a non-factor, especially with some of the scenarios I have in mind.

I'm counting the core Avengers, not West Coast or any of those guys. Otherwise I'd include Excalibur and the other X groups, which would really skew things in the X-Men's favor.

I knew there were other X groups, but I was under the impression that a lot of them were at odds with the X-Men. Then again, I didn't read too many comics. Most of my X-Men trivia comes from the Legends games and the odd Wikipedia article.:P

X-Men has probably the most spin-off groups of any superhero team, probably because of how popular the series is. Almost everyone, except maybe Cyclops and Xavier, has broken off from the group at one point and recruited a new team of up-and-coming mutants. Some of these groups were created because someone felt like Xavier wasn't willing to resort to certain tactics (I remember Colossus and Nightcrawler specifically doing this) while others were just more or less talent scouting for new students to admit to the Academy.

I haven't read any X-Men books in about eight years though, at least, so I'm not very current on where everyone is at. I just know that if you assembled every mutant who has ever been affiliated with the X-Men or a spinoff of them it would be in the hundreds, easily.

Oh yeah, definitely. I remember reading in a comic at a Waldenbooks that Cyclops was an instructor, Beast was some manner of staff (whether instructor or technical or whatnot I'm not sure), and Wolverine was a combat instructor (go figure). Part of the story is that he was escorting a group of about four or five students, three of whom bear a strong resemblance to the Thing, the Human Torch, and the Invisible Woman, now that I think about it. This group headed into the Danger Room, which was broken after some mutant went berserk and wrecked it. Wolverine told them all to attack him, called for the lights to be turned out, and promptly beat the snot out of them. I was amused that at the end of the exercise, one of the students began muttering in Japanese, and was shocked witless when he snapped back in the same language. The Diamond Queen (can't recall her name at the moment, she's a part of the Hellfire Club, I think second-in-command for Sebastian Shaw) is Cyclop's new lover, but I don't know what happened to Jean Grey/Phoenix, probably died again. And at the end there was a girl that I THINK was Shadowcat having some sort of nightmare about her father rotting away before her eyes, then waking up under a tree with some guy that was apparently her lover/love interest.

I don't remember what series this issue was in, but it was a somewhat recent one, after the House of M storyline, I think it was. I read this maybe sometime around the beginning of the year, maybe sometime in December of last year.
