Nothing comes close to the excitement I had when I first got to play this game, and that feeling never went away. With the sequel, my love for the series went through the roof. Somewhere inside me, I still carry a weak hope that I will one day know how the story really ends...

I was visiting the Shenmue Dojo forums today, and I was kinda depressed, Although I never cared about Shenmue Online, seeing it actually cancelled didn't give me a good feeling. Please gather, Shenmue fans! Let's remember the awesome experice we had, and hope that one day, something will come close to this!

Aw, thanks. I felt kinda sad. I'm not joking, sad like having a tear in my eye. I can't belive this, how come no game has ever been able to make me feel like this again? PLEASE, please, please, release this in upscaled HD for XBLA / PSN, I'll buy this, and be in tears of joy. (Although it already looks completely awesome with my VGA cables on Dreamcast, as you can see. I'm guessing the person that took the screens also used VGA cables.)

Well, yeah, it is still one of the better looking games ever released (That's right, I said it). I've been playing through it again on my import Dreamcast, 'cause I thought it'd be fun to play in Japanese. It's good times.

Something tells me we'll never see the end though.

^I fully agree with everything you sad. Although I suddenly feel a great shame in not owning the japanese version. It would be easy to play, since I've played through the Euro version around 10 times. (My brother has kept out old Japanese Dreamcast too)

I hope you imported the Euro Shenmue II for Dreamcast, for once we got the superior product in Europe. I LOVE Shenmue II.

^Nah, I didn't because I can't play PAL games on any of my Dreamcasts. I have the Japanese version of Shenmue II and the US XBOX version of Shenmue II.

^Ok, If you got the jp version of Shenmue II, all is well. I have a few questions though:

- I've heard at one point, Sonic can open the door when you knock on a door. Is that true?
- There is a hidden duck race in Shenmue II, or so I've heard. I have never been able to unlock this, have you?
- Did you, like me, have different playstyles each playthrough? One being martial arts Ryo, training and learning everything you could, one being, toy Ryo, collecting toys all the time (at the same being raffle ryo, buying chocolate and, caramel and potato chips all the time) , and another being social ryo, unlocking cutscenes with friends, another being gaming ryo in the arcades beating highscores, another one again being kitty ryo, focusing on the cat as much as you could, ect.?

^Yeah, I've done tons of different playthroughs with varying results.

I don't believe your first two are true, however. The first one is seems too out of place for the game, but the second one is POSSIBLE I guess. I'll look into it.

Also, Shenmue is DOMINATING the XBOX Originals part of the xbox.com forums. 42 pages long with over 1,400 replies calling for the game to be put on Live. That's way bigger than any other thread I've seen over there. It'd be a good step to at least getting people playing it.

That's AWESOME!

Major spoiler:

Gamefaqs lists this spoiler / tip:

Own a duck to use in duck races
After the cutscenes when you've finished catching leaves at the temple for the first time, go back and try it again.
If you catch 4 leaves all together (not in a row but actually all at the same time), you will hear a 'quack' and a feather will drop from the tree. Catch it (be ready because it's fast!) and Ryo will notice a duck in the tree.
Choose 'catch' from the selections that appear and then watch a funny (if not incomplete) cutscene.
The duck will then be yours for use in the duck races.

The duckraces could be true then?

Is the Dreamcast region free? Coz if so I was thinking about getting a Dreamcast and buying the import.

No, but you can burn a boot-disc that can allow you to play import games, thus making it essentially region free.

Edit; Sorry for double post.

Shenmue didn't make me excited for a good amount of the game...what I felt was amazement. It's hard to understand all of the detail in this game. It's so epic in scope. The soundtrack is brilliant. The graphics are ridiculous!-they STILL look good! The sense of wonder and awe that many felt while playing OoT...I felt that playing Shenmue.

And I played it FIVE years after it came out!

/end Anakin-ish rant.

Ah man, Shenmue was the sh!t. Still at the top of my list of games in my book. Same thing with Dreamcast.

^I'd be less concerned about his search for sailors and more concerned that you end up asking for sailors in a Jazz Bar.

I still have my Euro copy of Shenmue II for DC along with my Japanese copy of CvS2 for DC. I will never forgive Sega for window seating Yu Suzuki and thus banishing Shemue into the void of forgotten franchises.

Although I keep telling myself that since he actually cost the company so much (failing to make a 70million$ game sell), it wasn't entirely strange, I still feel that he didn't deserve this.

^Not yet, haven't given it a try. I'll boot it up on the 360 here today and make another Shenmue II playthrough.

Nah it wasn't his fault it was management. His job was to make a stellar game. Their job was to sell enough consoles to make it a profitable franchise. He held up his end, they did not.

Hey, let's do something fun! Let's stab Tailzo in his eyes, by making him hope again!

Although it never materialized, some fanbase now speculates with Wii being fairly similar in architecture and unanimously leading in sales, that Sega could bring Shenmue to the platform citing improved gameplay as a big plus, as well as low risk for Sega compared to HD consoles and given that Shenmue 2 on Xbox sold under expectations, also since Wii is leading it should have a broader userbase (something Xbox and DC lacked) while claims of it expanding the market would mean that both Nintendo userbase that didn't experience the game as well as a new userbase to games altogether would be a desirable target public for selling the title, also, since the game would be in a SD console not only would it be cheaper to develop from the ground when compared to HD consoles, it would also allow Sega to upgrade their Shenmue engine instead of starting from scratch, some also cite the need to keep the franchise alive.[14][15][16]

Some have speculated that the Wii's Virtual Console could enhance Shenmue's local Arcade games availability.

Another popular argument is that Sega also has showed the trend of gearing towards a Dreamcast revival on the Wii, with popular Dreamcast titles like House of the Dead 2 (through HoTD2&3 Return), Sega Bass Fishing and a new Samba de Amigo coming over to the console; on top of plenty Dreamcast titles available only for GC to whom Wii has retrocompatibility, including but not limited to Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Adventure 2 and Skies of Arcadia so it would be a natural step to take.

More recently and adding to the rumors gameblogger insider Surfergirl said:

"I heard something back in March or April about a Shenmue title for Wii, but I have not heard anything since about it and doubt that there is any truth to that. "[17]

Recently in the May 2008 issue of the Swedish Game magazine "Gamereactor", it was said that a remake for Shenmue 1 & 2 was going to be made for the Wii console.
