"So you have come to see GCA's new look? Well, we have a surprise for you! This Friday, November 21st we will unveil a contest that is GCA's largest yet. One clue I will give is that "Q"uestions you have will be answered very soon! So please mark your calendar for this Friday... trust me you dont want to miss this!

I remember when I was in the chat room, and Sean told us about a contest + Staff stuff...About a GCN, GBA SP & games that will be given away on the opening of the site...Would that be it?
Sean-AMN
11-20-2003, 04:48 AM

Saturday for me....
That means I have to wait even longer...thats not fair
When the site is fixed you should link it to http://www.gcadvanced.com/article.php?artid=328 so it has no errors. That may work for some of you.
Anyway, yeah, "Q" was an obvious hint if it's a Panasonic Q.
Patrick-NE
11-20-2003, 06:47 AM
Sean and his hints, they are always really easy to understand...Id jump up and down if a member of the family wins. That would be so awesome...It plays dvds and stuff. Best giveaway ever by FAR
Good work GCA

Hold on guys you really think after paying for the new layout ph and all this we can afford to get a Q to give away... come on... Im poor right now lol... think smaller..

I have two of them... and pictures of me holding them both to prove it. The Q's are heavy... kinda... and they're shiny and they light up blue and have remotes... and... well you all know already. I think our two owners are so poor right now after doing everything with our site that the best they could give away would be Q-BERT for NES. That's my guess, thus the "Q" in Sean's little torture tease...

I bet it's got to do with being a staff member or an affiliate with them :) lol I'll be here since i like the site more
Uh, not so fast, Sean. loz
You don't actually have to pay if Panasonic is willing to collaborate with the site, no?
I bet it's an iQue?
Can I win this even though i was staff before.
Sean-AMN
11-20-2003, 07:28 PM

It has to be the Panasonic Q, it can't be the new China System: iQue - because we dont have any of those special stations to download the games.
And how would that be "big" or "ultimate?" Isn't it worth like $60?
Sean-AMN
11-21-2003, 12:38 AM
lol i can say we have a game or 2...
But isn't it Chinese only or something? And if so, wouldn't we have trouble with it, such as reading?
I don't know much about the iQue. lol
Sean, can you just tell us people who signed up for the forums... a little "gift" for signing up :-)

OMG!!!!!!!!! I just checked out the list of stuff GCA is giving away and I just wet my pants. I need more details STAT!!! This is by far the best contest I've ever seen on any site everrrrrrr.
GCA:
http://www.ballooninaboxusa.com/best.gif
I agree. Those are some great prizes. Just the job for the new GCA's opening giveaway!
Just Gabriel
11-21-2003, 09:37 AM
Yeah, that's alot of stuff!
add the number of prizes, divide into the number of users....
though the odds for this contest are likely gonna be the same as usual contests, because i'm going to guess this one will have no requirements (i.e. finding stuff--scavenger hunt--on a different page)
Damnit. I better not be counted as staff d00ds. I wanna win something.
You are a moderator....unfortunately....they might bend the rules for you ;)
I have nothing to do with the site anymore, and the forums really shouldn't count as staff anyway, but we'll see. I'll resign if I can't enter the contest (if GCA would allow me to enter afterwords). :D
OMFG! This is like 4000 dollars of stuff. The odds are good if only members can enter... less than 300 members now and 50 prizes. Although, this contest may make there be like 2000 more people .
Sean-AMN
11-21-2003, 08:02 PM
lol once we announce the full thing you will see 2 things... 1st a lot more forum users.. and 2 its not so easy to win.. we want people involved in the site with things like reader reviews ( at least 140 words) and voting on their most wanted games as well as posting coments below news... you can help your chances by starting to do that stuff now...
Excellent. How will reader reviews work? When a review is on the site you can add yours as a comment like the News comments?
Sean-AMN
11-21-2003, 08:53 PM
its on the main page now... go check em out
Gamecube: http://gcadvanced.com/readerreviews.php?srchsys=1
GBA: http://gcadvanced.com/readerreviews.php?srchsys=2
lol, reviews? Nice and easy. That's rather simple for me to do. :D
But before I even bother, is being a moderator considered staff?
Speaking of moderators, I'll be one if more are needed.
NickTheGamer
11-21-2003, 10:37 PM
Is it reviews for real?
Yeah, you can add reader reviews. It is a left side bar thingy.
Sean-AMN
11-22-2003, 10:58 AM
And they are on the main page for everyone to read!
When will you be posting what we actually have to do to win the prizes?
I'd love to win a Panasonic Q...it would be a dream come true....

I would give my left pinky toe for a panasonic q, i've wanted one soooooo bad since i heard of it's existince. i was actually gonna buy one but i'll wait and see how this contest pans out...
to win something like a Panasonic Q is something to give your ego a booast... how great would it feel to win such an amazing utility... wow...the thought is just making me feel all happy inside... man, I hope I can win it... can'wait till GCA starts their contest...
Has there actually been a date set and what we need to do for it? I'm so excited!
Well, their now saying that they need a few more kinks to be fixed and their hopeing for a company or two more to jump in the contest. The prize amounts are looking real intersting... *jumps in excitment*

New news about this on the site! They must be nearing completion and are getting ready to post a date and what to do. *crosses fingers and hopes* I hope they have many multiple winners. I wouldn't mind even winning one game. Free games are awesome! Even if it is something that you didn't even want. It is still joyful to win something and makes you feel all tingly inside. Mmmmm....

Hmm, I feel kinda stupid now. When the enw GCA came, I ignored the sweepstakes. But, it's on a much, much bigger scale than any of the comps that were going while I was on staff. :D
That Q looks pretty damn nice, but I wouldn7t mind some of the other stuff. Though I'd wager the rentals are useless outside the US. Ahh well :]
hmmm the 18+ thng looks interesting. what could be in their? games rated m+ or more stuff? hmmm?
Chrono Break
12-07-2003, 04:48 PM
Does anyone know what the rentals are good for? How many games can you rent a week and stuff like that. And are they only valid inside the United States or is it going to be some world wide thing? *doubts it being world wide but hopes for those poor UK people that it will be*
it says the name of the rental company. you can go to tehir siet and see if rentals are worldwide or just U.S...
Van_Fanel
12-08-2003, 02:36 AM
Yes that 18+ prize looks very interesting ! Perhaps if the staffs provide a better cover picture for that prize then I might get even more interested ! :D

Boy am I glad I'm not a member of GCA staff. Har har ;)
oh yeah, haha, they might not be eligible for it... but i'm sure they get some kind of compensation for not being able to enter... they might get paid to work here like at IGN? i mean if a site can partner up with big name companies like nintendo, then its staff must be getting soem goodies as well; whether its money or whatevr...
Just Gabriel
12-08-2003, 05:56 PM
nope, no compensation besides seeing your hard work reach so many. Also, the press members do get E3 passes as members of the press, but only to better our coverage.
And I'm not sure if staff are ruled out this time around, as there are no specifics on it. However, since the last big contest, I beleive staff are out.
I really don't understand why though, besides how the misinformed members in the last big contest complained (they thought we were getting paid for this or something)
oh well...
oh, that stinks, sort of. I'd love to go to E3, hey those Nintendo people are their and you can ask them questiosn and play their new games. It has it its own little fun...!

100 games from THQ and also e3 DVD's!
how do ya'll do this? Its mind boggeling; Panasonic Q's, Nintendo GameCubes, GBA SPS... its like $10,000 worth of stuff!
Van_Fanel
12-13-2003, 05:55 AM
100 games from THQ !?!?! What did you guys do ( ;) )to get that much ???
anyway this contest is one very good way of starting out the new format of the site or just to show that the site is THE #1 unofficial Nintendo site !!!
Rensa
12-17-2003, 12:14 AM
100 games * AUD$90 per game = AUD$9000 worth of stuff from THQ alone... that's just psychotic. :D

Does it means only 4 people can enter a Raffle ticket?
Thanks....
Can you enter in more than one package? I entered in like 5

I think you can but any Package should contain another reviews if I dont mistake...
Here, I want GCA Staff to anwser these questions for me.
When you say "Vote for your most anticipated GCN and GBA game. " does that mean you only have to vote once for each system and then you can enter all of the contests as long as you meet all the other requirements?
Also, say I entered for one of the prize packs and I have 100 posts in the forums when I enter for a prize pack. If I want to enter for another prize pack, do I have to post say 4 more posts (if it says you need to post 4 posts to enter it) to enter, or will my 100 previous posts do it for me?
lilxleftee
12-18-2003, 12:37 AM
sigh, i'm sure there are so many more people confused. I'm sorry but can anyone explain the whole contest, the tickets, etc.
If you enter the grand prize which requires 10/10 posts/reviews, and you already have 10/10, and suppose you wanna join another package, say the gba pack, which requires 4/4.. does that mean i must have at least 14 posts and 14 reviews? and is there a limit to how many packages you wanna join? is there any way to check how many reviews you have written? again, i'm sorry for the trouble
Rensa
12-18-2003, 03:52 AM
Yep, you need to add up the amount of reviews/posts for each ticket - that's how many you need to enter them all. Because, you need to state which reviews (I wouldn't worry about posts!) you're using to enter the ticket. So, you can't state the same reviews for additional tickets or other packages.
The "total of x tickets for this package" business means that if you go out on a limb and do extra work (extra re,views/posts), you can enter additional tickets in that raffle and thus have more chances to win. So if a package says you can have
a total of 4 tickets here, that's your initial raffle ticket, plus three extras, if you want to do more reviews to earn it.
I think that if you look at one of your reader reviews, there's a bar on the side that says, "see this person's other reviews". Maybe. ;)
I'm fairly certain that you don't need to vote for GBA and GCN games seperately, as Ken's sample ticket has just the one, under "Most Wanted GCA/GCN game". Whether you have to vote again and again for each ticket I'm not sure - but I7d assume not, since it's meant to be "Most wanted", not "Wanted".
No, there's no limit to the number of packages you can join - there is, however, a limit to the number of tickets you can get (see above). The requirements for additional tickets ar elower than those for the initial ticket.
I'm sure that any reviews or posts you've made are valid for the comp,so long as you haven't used them for anohter ticket already. :D
BTW Serj, on one of your tickets you've lsited ALl of your reader reviews! Better get this checked out, as you could end up invalidating all of those reviews on the one ticket (you only need to list the ones that you're redeeming for that ticket!) :D I think...

ANother question. Can somone explain me what is the deal with this:
"Gain additional raffle tickets for Conquer Fire Emblem Package by:
One additional raffle ticket per 2 additional Reader Reviews of at least 80 words each. Limit to 3 extra raffle tickets (6 extra reader reviews).
"
Is it kind of extra raffle tickets?
That is an extra raffle ticket. You get 1 extra ticket by doing 2 reviews. You can do that 3 times to get 3 extra raffle tickets. So in total you would have 4 tickets.
Maybe I misunderstood your question though?
i think if Ken and Sean explained it to the rest of the staff properly so they could explain it to everybody else would be good...
^ you should already understand it....
Best. Contest. Ever.
I really appreciate how you guys make people do a little work for the raffle tickest...it really boosts the odds!

Is their an exact date to when this contest ends?
Sometime in February eh.

01-09-2004, 10:39 AM
Can I use reviews I have written previously just for fun? i.e. reviews that I didn't write specifically for this contest?
Also, as a note, trunten is using the same reviews for every package. On some of them, he has submitted 2 raffle tickets with the same reviews, but in a different order.
Rensa
01-10-2004, 12:02 AM
Yeah, no reason why not. :]
you can use the reviews you wrote before the contest; its just your advantage you had some written before

I have a question.
"For every single raffle ticket, list the titles you reviewed to earn
the raffle ticket. Post your current number of posts in the forums.
List what games you voted for as most anticipated game for each
raffle ticket."
About listing the games I voted for... I don't get that... Each time you post a raffle ticket, do you say all of the games you voted for?
Or one for each?
trunten
01-15-2004, 08:43 PM
Also, as a note, trunten is using the same reviews for every package. On some of them, he has submitted 2 raffle tickets with the same reviews, but in a different order
If you pay attention you will notice, that originally yes I did just use the same 10 reviews for every raffle ticket as I didn't read the rules properly.
But I submitted new entries, and all of the games are different, just have a look for yourself. On every contest page where there is a 2nd entry by me, then it is a alid ticket.

Quick Question: On the Slackers Package Thread you mention that a person can only win one package, and one package only. Does this say for instance mean, that you cannot win both the Grand Prize Package and the Slackers Package and receive both things?
This being the case, what if you win the Slacker's package then later on win the First Place Package. Do you then get the First Place Package or Slackers?
Another question, have enough people entered so that, say there's a package that won't go to somebody?
And the final question is, what would happen to packages that are "given up."

I got a question.
I live in Israel and when package sent here and the prodcut cost was more than 200$ you need to pay a dolar for every dolar the pacge cost more than 200$. I mean if the package cost 300$ I need to pay +100$. Not always...but sometimes..cuase the customs, duty and taxs.
I really want to enter to the sweeptake and there is a package I keep my eye on it, but it cost more than 300$. My qestion is, if I won, can you take out some of the games to make the package value smaller then I be able to pay less ?
Thankyou..
MadSkill
02-13-2004, 03:59 AM
You guys with your questions. dont' make it harder than what it is. just think about what rules mean and that is prob answer.
yes you can win a product in value under 250 and still win a product of value of over 250 (or equal to). Once you win a package equal to or greater than 250..... you can't win another package of value 250 but you can hold on to your winnings until the contest is over to see if you won something greater. If you did, you can give back your old prize for new one. If you didn't, you get what you won...
understand?
