View Full Version : Happy Ash Wednesday!
To all of you Christians out there (or is it only for Catholics? I don't know for sure), I would like to wish you a good start to the Lenten season. May you get through the trials that have been laid before you, and gain faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
P.S. To all non-Christians, please ignore this thread, as it does not concern you.

I hope Passion has a lot of car chases and sex in it! Oh.. maybe Jesus will have to strip to "slave 4 u" at the local tavern so he can supplement his income as a carpenter!!! Passion of J.C. is gonna ROCK!!!

This year I'm giving up stakes, my favorite food. (but at least I have no worries about mad cow disease!)
You do mean steaks, right? I wouldn't imagine anyone would eat wooden spikes.
I am going to try some diet and exercise, while also refraining from caffeine (which includes chocolate).
Oh, nice point, Boondock.

Yeah the Passion is a good movie but misses greatness - it is definitely a movie for guilty Catholics if ever there was a movie. If this movie doesn't make you feel bad for sinning, nothing will.
And happy Ash Wednesday!.. I don't remember what Ash Wednesday even is anymore.
As far as I know, it's just the beginning of Lent. Oh, and it has something to do with the fact that man was made from the earth, and that his body will return to the earth. But the ash that goes on one's forehead is made from the burnt palm leaves of Palm Sunday from the year before.

When I went to church yesterday we had our substitute priest and he started talking about Lent. His version was f'ed up: "Ummm you don't have to give up one thing for 40 days, ummmmmm you could give something up for a week and then swich to something different or if a week is too long why not try a few days?"
This is not what Lent is supposed to be! You do something for 40 days! You don't just switch when it's getting hard! GOD!

Maybe I'll be a Catholic next year. I'm far too lazy and fat to care this year.

Ash Wendesday isn't just for Catholics, but I can't believe I didn't know that this week is Ash Wednesday... could you remind me again exactly what Ash Wednesday is about. I know what we do at the service and that it starts Lent, but I don't know what the ash represents anymore.
I kind of want to see Passion, cuz I am a Christian, but really, I want to see it more because it has Monica Bellucci. Oh my God, she's fuc*ing beautiful man, ALSO, incredibly sexy. Best thing to come out of Italy since Pizza. --~
EDIT: OH YEAH, and if I recall correctly, isn't Ash Wednesday much more of a somber kind of holiday than a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY or Christmas, or Easter? I don't know, maybe I've just completely forgotten. --~

i think ash wednesday's kind of a crock. we show jesus that we're glad he suffered horribly during the crucifixion by giving up chocolate. or steaks.
now, if we really wanted to show jesus we loved him we'd stab ourselves in the side with a spear.
i just know jesus is laughing at the whole idea of it in heaven, really...
Stigmata is really the only way we can possibly ever show Jesus we are glad for his sacrifice. IMO

i agree.
we should have to suffer to show we're glad...
wow, christianity's kinda sadistic...
that's actually what one of the reviews for 'the passion' said.
i agree with the assessment of that, i guess.

You don't give something up for Ash Wednesday, you give it up for Lent. But yeah, I think that's stupid. What does that do? But somber does not mean suffer. --~
Anyone for Passion of Joan of Arc?!?!

Those ashes and oil really plug up your pores. No thanks! Is there a Toner + Moisturizing Wednesday?

You're right MoN, this thread is too off topic.
***CLOSED*** --~
EDIT: PFFF, Yeah I know who Mila Jovavich is. My favorite roll of hers is probably Fifth Element, Lilu. I didn't say her because I've never seen that Joan of Arc, I saw part of the Sobieski one on TV, I hate that chicks voice, but her looks remind me Hellen Hunt, and I used to watch Married with You, wait, that's not the name of that show is it? Mad About You, and it's Helen Hunt. MAN, I need to get my 90's straight. --~
I have an oily T-Zone.. so I've been boycotting ash wednesday since I was 12... however, I do love the palm leaves they give you.. or whatever they are.. they are good at fanning you off if you are too hot.
Amen

When I asked my priest if he could make sure the eucharists were low-carb and contained no animal by-products, he gave me the dirtiest look. I thought being a Christian was about being understanding.
oh crap... my atkins diet says the eucharist is a deffinate no-no. so I just go up there and give my priest a "paris hilton" smile and wink... but my priest likes that, so I might have to stop...

Uh, I don't want to sound like a goody good, but Ken might take away my powers if I don't actually use them when I should.
This can go in the Anything thread, or in the "Weird fetish thread".
Uhh...I thought we had one. Never mind... *runs*
