I saw a similar post in another forums and I thought it would be interesting to see everyone's input in this forum. So here's a list of the tentative titles that should be appearing at launch for the Nintendo Wii this fall. The titles in this list come from various interviews and statements the developers made:
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Red Steel
Wii Sports
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
Madden NFL 2007
Elebits
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Rayman Raving Rabbits
Metal Slug Anthology
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
Blitz: The League
Cars
Total launch titles thus far: 16
Possible launch titles, but nothing has been confirmed or mentioned yet:
ExciteTruck
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Dragon Ball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi 2
Call of Duty 3
Now here's the thing. In an interview, Miyamoto mentioned that while he would love to have Super Mario Galaxy available on launch day, it would actually be released in Wii's "launch window", that of which being the first 6 months. Also, WarioWare is also supposed to appear in the "launch window".
"What gives Jon? Nintendo said that they learned from their mistakes last generation of not having a Mario title on launch day, but yet again, they seem to be repeating themselves."
Unfortunately you're right. Well for the most part. ;) I have a strong "hunch" that although it is true that Super Mario Galaxy will NOT appear at Wii's launch, a different Mario game will appear in its place. Mario Party 6000? DDR Mario 2? Mario Soccer 2? Nope. Anyone happen to catch the news that a game called Super Paper Mario was announced during E3? If not, check out AMN GameCube for information and media. It's a traditional Mario side-scroller, with RPG touches and other features to compliment the game. If you have heard already, you are probably looking forward to it as much as I am. That said, my "hunch" says that Super Paper Mario will launch on or around Wii's launch. Nintendo will then advertise that the game is Wii compatible and push it as a nostalgic Mario game for all to enjoy on the Wii. In a sense, this technique is similar to what Nintendo is doing with Twilight Princess. Super Paper Mario will be a game for those owning GameCubes to enjoy and a "true" Mario game for Wii's launch.
Sound feasible? Share your thoughts, along with any additions or revisions you have to the Wii launch list! :D
