hey guys, it looks like there's finally gonna be a simpsons movie, although no one's sure when. it HAS been confirmed that it's ACTUALLY in development now, as opposed to it being something Matt Groening says he's thinking about doing...
for the article: go here (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=794&e=3&u=/eo/20040211/en_movies_eo/13483)
and yes, i might should've posted this in the anime/cartoon thread, but since this was the MOVIE forums, i put it here.

well...although i don't have the care to read that article(my compy goes all nuts when there is more than one window open) i can safely say, i think ,it will blow. i mean, how could you possibly make a movie outta the simpsomns? it's not the kind of comedy that could be made into a comedy cinema...it is tv humor...i odn't know how to describe wat i mean...so you understand what i mean or not....but anyway, yeha,, it'll probably blow...disagree? cause i was at some thread bout the family guy movie...and i said it'd suck for the same reason, and all these people went all ghetto time on me...

I concur, Mr. Magun. Its not fit for the silver screen because of the type of humour. Its more of a "plot-less" humour (not meant to offend the Simpsons). The humour just comes. Once in a while we get somewhat of a plot (like the shooting of Burns) but its not shelled out enough to be something deep and involiving.
If I does come out (on the date said, Christmas 2006) it would probably be a box office hit anyways. In the same vein as Matrix Reloaded, people will see it because its the Simpsons.

The Simpsons Hit and Run intro was kinda like a movie.

how can you say it won't work b/c it's a certain type of 'plotless humor'? what the hell can you say about south park? it's a show driven completely on the same (albeit slightly more profane) humor as the simpsons, and the movie was one of the most brilliant musicals/animated films of the past ten years. making blatant assumptions like that is just stupid.

Isnt the movie rumored to come out the summer after/of the final episode?

Sorry Mr. Mag...er Mugan.
I can make blatant assumptions like that in the same vein you can say the South Park movie was animated brilliance. It's my opinion.
If the South Park movie was brilliant, it may be the exception to television shows-turned-crap movies. Alot of Nintendo fans saw the Pokemon movie, and I don't think I was alone in thinking it was an extended episode. The same may be said for the Simpsons movie. Unless they can can merge Simpsons-style with movie substance, it won't feel more than a -guess what?- an extended episode.

It's just a shame that they've always said that they'll only do a movie when the show dies. Hope this won't be the case though!

well, groening's already signed up through fall of 2005 (which means the contract's out 2006), but i'm thinking fox will probably continue the contract after that, if groening wants to sign up again...and i don't see why he wouldn't. he made that announcement quite a few years back, and i'm sure he was thinking then that the simpsons would be over long before their fifteenth season...

According to the info from that link I posted, this movie is predicted for about 2006. kinda ties in nicely, huh!

i dunno...i've never seen a halfway decent televised program turned into a good movie...
South Park was pretty cool.

I think Groenings highly talented writers could pull it off.

those "highly talented writers" havent pulled anything off in the past 5 years IMO

Bah, They could do it, just bring back the old writers from the old day becaue todays writers loves the "jack ass homer" which (though funny) would get old during a movie....maybe....
Daily Variety said there would be a movie.
I think that a movie could be interesting, but people are used to 30 minute shows... could they handle 90+ minutes?

Yeah, I think they could. this will just give them time to flesh out the story more, or who knows they could do it like that one episode and have like 23 smaller stories....though i dont think they should but its just an idea

A perfect example of how they could make a Simpons movie is in the episode where Mr. Burns got shot. If they could make a 2 part episode they could make a movie!
