View Full Version : Thoughts on Nintendo Peripherals

I was just thinking about these new Nintendo peripherals that Nintendo is said to be making and then I thought of the E-Reader. Remember that thing? Sure it was cool at first... For about a month, if that. There have been others, but it seems to be the same deal for ever peripheral brought out by the Nintendo. Don't get me wrong here, I love all my Nintendo systems and I still have them all (cept the Virtual Boy) and they still work, cept the NES needs a kick start now and then, but anyway... Let me direct the following message to Nintendo.
Dear Nintendo,
I don't want to see anymore E-Readers, or Super Scopes, or whatever unless, and that a big UNLESS... Unless you (Nintendo) back them up!!! That's right. Quit this nonsense of getting something out there until people buy it and then thats it. You have got to back up these new peripherals. Please? I am personally not going to by any future Nintendo peripheral unless I am convinced it will be backed up and not just short time. I'm talking in the long run. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking like this so please, for all the Nintendo fans everywhere, don't let us down. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Sure there are still some new E-Cards stuff available, but its Mario 3 and Pokemon. That's about it. They've stopped making the old school games, there's no more Animal Crossing, not that the Animal Crossing were even that good in the first place. Sure they were cool for once again, the first month or so, if that. Animal Crossing was my main reason for purchasing the E-Reader. Actually, thats not correct, I got it as a gift. Who knows, I may not have even bought it at all, but that was the main reason for wanting to try it out.
To everyone reading: I said I'm not the only one, so if you feel the same way as I do back me up here. Thanks for listening to what I've had to say.
And finally to GCAdvanced Staff: This is my first time actually saying something in the GCA forums, I do however visit your site regularly, and enjoy it. Thank you for giving me a place to voice my thoughts publicly.

I agree with you, but, if Nintendo sees perheprials to be fit, the Nintendo will make those perheprials. They are a business, and, they need to make money. So what will sell on GCN aside from the next inevitable sequels? Perheprials.
In essence, they are trying to do what Sega tried with 32X and Sega CD-sucessfully. To quote N-philes...
"Nintendo apparently is wary of making a large investment in something like Sony is doing for their next console. Part of this is because Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata believe they need to differentiate their upcoming console from the others and make it more about fun than promising the best graphics. By releasing peripheral(s) for GameCube they hope to achieve this appeal of "fun" gaming before the next console is even released."
Note how they say "achive this appeal of 'fun'";this is in the same vein as 32X/Sega CD, in which Sega tried to make a bridge with the 32 bit/64 bit wave. What Nintendo is trying to do lead up to the next-gen wave, so when it comes, we already have an idea-however faint-of what will come. While Sony and Microsoft taunt us with beautiful screens, Nintendo will do something never done before-taunt us with the gameplay.

peripherals could be really cool. what if Nintendo came up with a hard drive? that would rock. but yeah, nothing that sucks.

they could make a DVD/CD device, or a face imaging face. Possibly a voice recognizing device that allows you to implemtent sounds into the game

Sounds like something that would "extend the console's life with new experiences" as Nintendo said, those would be cool accessories.

I hope they do something awesome yet crazy! It would be funny if they made a giant gamecube that has the power and specs of 20 thousands gamecubes. Oh yea ur avatar will be ready soon
Do you think they will make a DVD/CD drive periphreal for the gamecube??
OutlawAdidas
02-12-2004, 06:01 PM
they could, just to appeal to stupid non gamers who see that a DVD and CD drive in a game system is the best thing! But, if they do this they will have a big advantage! PS2 and Xbox have low quality dvd players, also when its uses the dvd/cd drive its screws up the ps2 and xbox system. But with the GC dvd/cd drive, it will be external, and hooks into the base of the cube, a seperate device yet high in qaulity

but for the cost of something like that, someone would just buy a dvd player...
Think practical here.

make it $50! But use technology from a cheap dvd player that has much better quality than the ps2 and xbox

hopefully they will make these peripherals compatible with both the Gamecube and N5, cuz if the N5 is backward compatible, them im not planning on keeping the cube

Face imaging causes way too much legal issues. It was going to be tried with Perfect Dark, but polititians got scared of kids shooting each other.
Nintendo reitrates again and again it is a video game company. A DVD player wouldn't fit in this philosophy-but then again, you never know...

yea I know that, but a river doesn't alway flow in one direction, it creates new paths to flow down! oH don't forget about Nintendo's retro device that allows for you to play NES, SNES, and n64 games..not the ique

02-12-2004, 06:50 PM
The iQue never let gamers play NES games anyways...are you talking about the thing for N64?
OutlawAdidas
02-12-2004, 06:53 PM
no its suppose to let you play all the games from previous nintendo systems. but anyways, go check out my RE 4 leaked thread, its for real.. the real deal

They're not gonna make a DVD thing, they would've done that when they launched it if they wanted to, but they wanted to make it cost less, which I agree with. I don't need 3 dvd players anyway, there's already one on most pc's which we are all using and on ps2 and xbox if you have either of those. Infact, I thank Nintendo for opting out and making the Cube that much cheaper.
As for this device that lets you play games from other systems... I've never heard of it. I would like something like that, but I don't know if I'd actually buy one or not. If such a device is around, someone please give me a link to atleast see it. I have many NES, SNES games and a few N64 ones too. Although my SNES and N64 work perfectly, my NES doesn't like to always work. Unless I plug the GameGenie into a game, then it seems to work, but not everytime heh.
Now I'm never heard of a Game Boy Player for N64, but I know they exsist because I've seen them used on a video game tv show, which surprised me. Its funny those weren't released publicly, I suspect its because N64 wasn't overly popular and decided to wait and release it for their next system (GameCube).
I've tried to think of some peripherals I'd like to see, but I can't even think of anything honestly. Is it my lack of imagination or is it that no one could probably think of what they're thinking of. No one dreamed there would be a Nintendo DS, since GBA & GBA SP were and are doing great. They want to compete with the PSP, so I guess better to start now then to wait and see if they need to or not. I think GBA will stand up to the PSP, after all they've now sold 20 million of them or something right? People aren't going to be running out to buy another handheld right after they've just got a Game Boy. Who knows maybe they will, thats my thoughts. I think the PSP will do well, but probably not as quickly as GBA/GBA SP.
I'm getting off track, back to GameCube peripherals...
A camera? Sony's already done it. I have it, its pretty cool, and I think Sony will continue to create software for it. Atleast thats the impression I get. Will Nintendo release a camera of some sort for GameCube? I hear there will be one for the NDS, so probably not.
A hard drive? I doubt it. Nintendo isn't going online with the GameCube so there wouldn't be much point. However it would be cool to not have to buy/use memory cards in the next-gen systems. I think its annoying how every system requires a memory card, but none of them will come with one. Instead they'd rather make the kiddies suffer when their parents buy them a new system and have no clue about memory cards and such. Its almost like not giving us a controller. Look there's a game. It looks cool, but I can't play it. Sure its not that bad, but you get my point.
A mircophone? That bombed with Hey You Pikachu.
So what will it or they be??? That's the question now. But I'll bet you its not one Giant GameCube that has the power of 20 GameCubes. Heh. I don't think I could afford that, nor would it fit in my entertainment center, LOL.
Man, it really feels like I'm bashing the big N, but I honestly do like the ideas they come out with its just too bad they don't last, and you know the moment you see it thats its over already.

they should make a CD adapter, so you can play your favorite songs while playing your favorite games. You guys know it would rule to have the heavy guitar thrashings of Mushroomhead playing while Kemen Vasquez rushes down the screen and misses a neara fatal spinal injury in 1080. --~ that would RULE!!!

Yea, but I'm still try to wonder what Nintendo will do to combat Sony's Cell. It would be nice if they used Holograms. Microsoft is gonna use some crazy thing, but all their things always come out to be a PC.

You've gotta consider that it's Sony were talking about here. They always over-glorify their products *cough PS2 cough PS1 cough Gran Turismo 3 cough*. Not only that, their going in with an unproven chipset. It seems as if Sony is getting a bit of what Nintendo experienced in the 90's-cockiness.

I laugh in the general direction of Sony and thier "cell" *looks towards the west and laughs*...first off, keep this in mind...that is just ONE part of the WHOLE console. So what if you have a chip like that if the rest of the system is crap or can't take advantage of the chip. And that's assuming the chip is what Sony claims it is. Which I doubt. HIGHLY.
Remember that thing they had for Sega Genesis and Super NES a while back where you could do stuff like kick and punch and in games like Mortal Kombat the characters would kick and punch... that would be tight... it didn't sell much and didn't bring up alot of hype for some reason... but it looked cool
methinks

I still have my ROB robot. Coolest peripheral ever. Too bad there were only two games and they both sucked, and were easily played without the robot. Sure looked cool in the comercials though.

I would also like to see Nintendo release those sweet Gamecube LCD screens they showed off at last years E3. The image produced from those screens was incredible.

THe Panasonic Screens and Game Eye, those might be the new accessories.
Why would we get a game eye? Wouldn't Nintendo have to promote using online services? I don't know how useful having a game eye would be other than taking your picture to add to a game.. but that would be stupid.
