It's only $19.99 this week. Is it worth it? I need a game that will last me more then 10 hours. I'm basically looking for Sascha on this one. lol Or anyone else who has played it. I might pick it up today or maybe tuesday...

Despite Majesco's utter failure with the contest they were holding (the "Race To Save Humanity $1,000,000" contest), Advent Rising does have its merits.
It does have a great storyline, good controls (not the best, but they're easy to get used to), and graphics that are pretty good, although they can be pretty bland at times.
The only thing that might sway you away from this game are the glitches, and boy, are there a lot of them. However, plenty of my friends who have played the game actually enjoy the glitches. Some of them are downright funny!
That said, there are also plenty of Easter Eggs and secrets to be found. For example, in one of the earlier levels of the game, there is a secret area that can be reached, and in this secret area, there are three Mario Pipes! That's right! MARIO PIPES! Majesco purposely threw those in there last minute as a nod to Nintendo I guess. Anyways, when you jump on the pipes and activate them I guess, you get transported to different stages of the game. Pretty neat huh? Appearantly there are other Mario Pipes througout the game, but I have yet to find them.
All that aside though, if the game is only $19.99, I say just pick it up. It's a great game and definately worth picking up. I just wish Majesco would have decided to keep working on the series (they can't even do a sequal because of their budget), you'll see what I mean at the ending of the game. YOU CAN'T LEAVE PEOPLE WITH THAT KIND OF A CLIFFHANGER!

I didn't like it. The controls were awkward and inconsistent, the story was decent but the art direction was poor, and worst of all the coding is poor and there are frame inconsistencies and sound glitches abound.
For 20 bucks? Not bad, I suppose. But I regret paying 50 for it.
here's what Sascha will say:

Advent Rising was a great game. A flawed game, no doubt, but a great game none-the-less. Graphically, the game is hit or miss - while the framerate is inconsistent when the screen gets bogged down with action, most of the time the game looks great.
People accuse the game of bland textures and low-poly characters, but thats like accusing Psychonauts of not having properly proportioned characters. The game had a very specific art direction - its supposed to look like a graphic novel come to life, with bold colors, and an overall comic-book like presentation. I adored the art direction, it was a nice break from every other action game trying to look as realistic as possible. I personally never got tired of looking at Advent Rising - from artistic viewpoint, I think its one of the most beautiful games this generation. It's easy enough to make the call without buying the game, look at the screenshots:

Personally, I love the look and proportions of the characters, the grogeous hues of colored lighting, the exaggerated explosions and all the rest that comes with the artistic direction in the game.
The controls are easy to get the hang of, and become quite natural - its actually the facet of the game most universally applauded. Using the right thumbstick, you essentially can pick any target on the screen to attack, without breaking up your action. In the middle of a jump kick to one enemy, you can lock onto another and begin shooting weapons at them. Its called flick targetting, and after you get used to it, it will be hard to go back to the cumbersome method of cycling through enemies. Those without the coordination to actively use both sticks *coughSHAWNcough* wont enjoy it though, cause the sheer nature of the action-packed gameplay necessitates LOTS of target switching to get the full experience.
As far as glitches go, I came across very few. I never had to restart the game or quit out of the game because of a glitch, and the sound never stuttered for me. The framerate certainly did dip in the intensive parts, but never to the point where it affected my ability to play the game properly, and never took away from my enjoyment of the game.
Every person I know, other than Shawn, who has played the game has enjoyed it immensely. If you are a graphics whore and demand a perfectly constant framerate in your games, this is not the game for you. If you are someone who likes action games, and wants a game that essentially gives you a Super hero and offers throngs of enemies with which to pummel in as stylish a fashion as you fancy, than this is a great game for you. I have no regrets paying full price for it.
An easy 8.5. I love the game, and hope that some publisher, if not Majesco than someone else, picks up the publishing rights for the Xbox 360 sequel.

I won't last you 10 hours. I beat the game in one night. But I did love what i played. Some of the framerate issues weren't as bad as people made them out to me. If this series is properly tuned, it could score over 9.0 next time around. Twet the controls a bit more, keep the same AMAZING story. Oh and the music, .
It's worth 20 dollars.

Wait, so there is going to be a sequal? Or is it merely just a plan right now?

Glyphx Games (the developer) is in the pre-production phase of the sequel. That is, the stuff that is outside the long-term commitment phase, the tasks that wont amount to millions of dollars of development costs. Things like art, dialogue, and simple stuff that has to be put into place before the actual coding happens. That what they're doing until a publisher with enough vision to see the potention in the franchise comes along and finances the project. Im actually thinking EA may be the best bet - with that much money behind the project and their advertising, the next game could be HUGE.
Glyphx is different from most developers in that they dont need money from publishers to survive. Glyphx Games is a part of Glyphx, which is an organization of 'freelance' workers that are hired by development teams that need extra man power. For example, if a company were to need a few animators to help finish a build by deadline, they could go through Glyphx and find some really talented people really easily. So Glyphx Games may not have made any money on Advent Rising, but its still a healthy company.

I think Tommy Talricos company did the music for this game.
Advent Shadow is coming out for PSP. It follows Marin, the other human. :D I was very shocked at the end of Advent Rising, and I see why they would give her, her own game.
 Is her, her correct?

talking about games that need sequels with cliff hanger endings, when will we EVER see a Beyond good and evil sequel....:(
as for this game if its 20 bucks go for it, 20 bucks is nothing.

I liked this game. It didn't blow my head off with it's amazing-ness, but it was certainly above average. Framerate and the occasional sound glitch, but that was it. Great story, a fan-****ing-tastic soundtrack, great weapons, and the powers you get to use are pretty sweet. For 20 bucks, I'd hit that.

Haha, I wish Sascha was that forgiving with Nintendo games.
But anyway, this game (or trilogy, actually) has always interested me, as the developers are very passionate about what they do (which is always important to me). There's a little store here selling games at 10 dollars, just because they aren't very popular (granted, Honduran gamers love Fifa and Fifa games only), and Advent Rising is there, so I may get it for me (even though I don't own an Xbox, but will hopefully someday). There's also Panzer Dragoon Orta, which I've always died to play, and some other games like Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and Astro Boy.
If only I could bury money like in Animal Crossing...

Ask me what I think of Super Mario Stikers, a game most felt was a shallow and ultimately repeditive soccer game without the multitude of extras that typically kept Mario sports titles interesting in the long-term. Me, I adore the game - its one of the most multiplayer games I've played this generation, and its not even online. I love the fast-pace, the way the items factor into the gameplay, the simplified soccer mechanics, and of course, the oodles of charm provided by the members of the Mario universe.
I can be just as forgiving to a Nintendo game for deficiencies when it provides me with the warm and fuzzies. I dont have a vendetta against the company.

i forgot about this topic. lol I need a game with a great story (Something lacking from the last....90% of the games I've bought latelylol), so I'll end up picking this one up. Actually, I might head to Circuit City tomorrow and get it while I pick up First Descent....
