Report: Revolution hitting North America by Thanksgiving
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata tells Japanese newspaper the next-gen console will be in US homes for the holidays.
To date, Nintendo has been rather stingy with details about its next-generation console, the Revolution. So far, the Kyoto-based game giant has only unveiled a mock-up of the console and its new controller. It has also vaguely mentioned that several of its popular franchises, such as Super Smash Bros. and Metroid Prime, are going next gen.
Given the lack of information, speculation has mounted that the Revolution may not actually launch until 2007. Today, though, the company's head man debunked all rumors, stating that the console will make it in time for Christmas 2006. He also revealed that America will be getting the console first, so that it will make it in time to stores for Thanksgiving.
In an interview featured in today's edition of Japanese newspaper Sankei Shinbun, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated, "We can't disclose the Revolution's release period yet, but we have no plans to miss out on the year-end sales battle. As for North America, we need to release it by Thanksgiving, or otherwise we won't receive support from the retail industry. So the Revolution will be released prior to that period."
Iwata avoided any specific comments about how much the Revolution would cost. However, he reiterated that the console will be reasonably priced. "The amount of money that people are willing to spend on videogames is getting less every year," he said. "Even if it's a superb machine, it's not going to sell if it's 50,000 yen ($434). We plan to make [the Revolution] an affordable price."
To date, Nintendo has never released a console above the price of 25,000 yen ($217) in Japan. Iwata also told the Sankei Shinbun that a working model close to the final form factor of the Revolution will be shown at E3 in May.

I've already started my own Revolution piggy bank, and I think I'll have enough by that time.
Viva la Revolución!!!

I look forward to try playing games with the new controller. And it'll be less than a year before I can. Good news.

Kinda sad when the Japanese company knows well enough that the North American market is worth putting FIRST come launch and making Japan a secondary priority, but not the American company. Smart move Nintendo, kudos.
Ah well, with the first 360 shipment failing to sell out, Micrsoft (in theory) wont be sending them anymore, and the Western world can enjoy a steadier rate of console shipments. Microsoft needs as much of a head start as possible, and hopefully now they've joined the rest of the world in acknowledging that NA and Europe are the places to solidify that lead and pour their money. Wait until the Xbox 360 lineup has more Japanese friendly software, and then try the waters again. Until then, just cut off all funding to that region, cause all the advertising in the world isnt gonna put a dent in that nationalist sentiment.
And it looks like $400 is the cap. Im guessing it will be $299 myself. Hopefully, if thats the case, it will encourage Sony to lower the price of the PS3 just a tad more to about $350 or so, which in turn would prompt Microsoft to do the same, or maybe even match the Rev price. In anycase, Ive got enough funds set aside for both the Rev and the PS3, though at this point, still unsure whether or not Im gonna buy the former - havent seen a Revolution game that peaks my interest yet.

Thanksgiving? Good strategy. They should release it a week before then; it will faster than water bottles in the desert. However... I was hoping it would come out sometime in June/July, but that's the slowest sales season, so I see that.
Well, we finally know when it's coming! Hoorah for the first confirmation for the Revolution in 2006!

Yeah, thats kinda what Ive been getting at. I wasnt saying all the Revolution games that have been shown have been uninteresting, I, saying that nothing has been shown. Hence, the wait and see approach on the Revolution.

$400? holy crap. I thought the target price was going to be around $250, I mean its less advanced than the 360, so how can they charge $100 more for a system relying on innovation rather than graphics? I mean, I cant wait for revo, but 400 bucks? come on.

$400 is the cap. The most they'd charge. Expect it to be less but it depends on what they pack in there.

Reggie Fils-Aime talks more about Nintendo Revolution's price, launch line-up and more.
Famous Nintendo executive vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, spoke with CNET today in an intriguing interview about the company's New Year's resolutions.
The interview touches bases on a number of subjects, including Nintendo Revolution’s launch line-up, price point, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and the company’s current positioning in both the North American and worldwide market.
When asked about Nintendo Revolution’s pricing, Reggie confirms that it will sell for less than $300.00, as well as reminds that Revolution is merely the code-name for the console. What’s more, Reggie goes on to say that not only will the console be affordable for consumers but, “Revolution will be more affordable for game developers to create for, and that will result in fantastically innovative content.”
CNET also asks Nintendo’s famous spokesman what kind of games we can expect at launch, in which he responds, “We have the huge luxury of a stable of franchises that's unparalleled in this industry. Also, we're working on new franchises and our first-party lineup will be better than our competition. We're also getting strong third-party support.
“Secondly, our virtual console concept, which lets you play your favorite games from the Nintendo 64, Super NES and NES systems, will also be a differentiator. Plus, Revolution will be backwardly compatible with GameCube games.”
He even goes on to say that Revolution will sell better than Xbox 360 did in its launch window, stating “We will sell more units than Xbox 360 did here in the United States in our launch window. I mean, in December, we sold more GameCubes in the United States than Microsoft sold 360s, and Revolution will do better than that.”
Nintendo isn’t living in denial, though. Reggie acknowledged later on in the interview that the company while in second place worldwide is in third place in North America. Even so, it is proud of its recent success with Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
“We've had more than 10 million connections to the servers on a worldwide basis and over half a million unique users in a short seven-week time frame. Just for perspective, it took Xbox Live over six months to get to that level, so we're very proud of the way we've grown that business.”
Be sure to head on over to CNET to check out the full interview by clicking here.
We expect more details on Nintendo Revolution as E3 2006 approaches, which is held in May.

I assume 199 for the console ... I hope that anyway, because I don't have enough for a game if it is more :p

I'm putting my money down for the 12th. 19th seems a little late, though Nintendo loves the 18th for some reason.

Just a few things, and Reggie can spin it better than Moore or any guy at Sony:
He even goes on to say that Revolution will sell better than Xbox 360 did in its launch window, stating “We will sell more units than Xbox 360 did here in the United States in our launch window. I mean, in December, we sold more GameCubes in the United States than Microsoft sold 360s, and Revolution will do better than that.”
Really well the thing about that is, is if MS had 1 million 360s in US in December guess what? They would have all sold. So I'm sure it is possible (although I don't know if really true) that the GameCube can sell over 300k in December, although that sounds really high.
“We've had more than 10 million connections to the servers on a worldwide basis and over half a million unique users in a short seven-week time frame. Just for perspective, it took Xbox Live over six months to get to that level, so we're very proud of the way we've grown that business.”
So your free service outdid Microsoft's pay service? What about combining the online play of Microsoft's console in that same time span between Xbox Live, XBConnect, Gamespy, etc, etc. I mean basically, Mario Kart is like Gamespy, so look at it that way.
Also Nintendo constantly loves to say they are in second place, overall with there products (GameCube, GBA, DS). Really? Well lets look at all of Microsoft's gaming systems, if you want to spin facts, you could take a Windows PC, and Xbox, so then Microsoft would be #1 (although they don't spin things like that).
Anyways if its anything over $200 I will be surprised.

^Well... WFC can't touch Xbox Live, but it certainly did impress, where numbers are concerned. About where they stand, they're talking about all their gaming systems right now; and since Microsoft's only GAME system is the Xbox and 360, then yeah, it's a distant third place. Sorry. That's not a spin, that's a fact.
Why would you be surprised if it is over $200? Do you think the Revolution will be inferior to the PS3 and 360?

^ he is a Xbox fanboy JGZ go fig on that. He just let of steam becuse Reggie was saying the Online mode did better then Xbox live did in the begging and that Revo out sell Xbox 360 by lunch. Sound more like a way to blow it off when its truth. Fact is a badly as i what to say PSP last this one by default on the DS becuse DS sold out Nintendo was not able to make any more system so PSP won for 1 mouth and not by much. Lunch is different they made a huge mistake with 360 in japan. They know better then to send the 360 over there to send them here and fill the pre oder demand. Any way i dont care beging Flame Waring with you XE!
