What the hell does the ending of Akira mean?

What does it mean when the Subjects (27, 26, and 25) and Akira make the giant ball of light? The doctor says it should mean the begining of the universe, but if that was so, then shouldn't everyone die? Its a sick movie, if only I got the ending...

There are a bunch of websites that have theories on that sort of thing, but I don't know any of them offhand.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty good movie, very gory and violent. I think the great ball of light thing was like the big bang, but I don't know why the world survived. Those crazy Japanese just give me a headache.

Apart from Robotech on TV,this was the first real Anime I saw when I was a wee one Didn't understand it very much (being that age, it prolly came out when most of you were toddlers) but have since watched it a few times... incredible!

Anyway, I should watch it again sometime and get back to you on my theory of the ending.
