I heard bittorrent is good, as is suprnova (yes, that is the spelling). With bittorent, just type in "bittorent anime sites" at a seach engine and download away-or use animesuki.com. Be prepared to read, as most are japanese and just subtitled. I don't use it though-I'd rather buy the anime. Its not cheap, and it will be slow aquiring it-i had to wait one month for my only anime dvd right now- but at least you'll be supporting the industry.

Animesuki.com and animejunkies.com is where I go. Both use BitTorrent.

I'm getting Yumeria right now, they only have 3 eps though. Actually, that might be on animejunkies, not suki, I don't remember. It's pretty good though.

Hmmm........yes yes animesuki is GREAT. As for good anime, it really depends on what you're into. My three favorites are (not in any order)
1. Scrapped Princess (24 episodes -- old series, might be hard to DL. Use the 1-24 batch torrent.)
2. Full Metal Alchemist (17 episdoes so far -- anime is still going on. Absolutely stunning. Great character interaction, strong emotional bonds and nice action scenes)
3. Gunslinger Girl (10 episodes so far -- very nice anime. takes place in modern day Italy. Good action sequences, but best of all is the relationship that YOU can build with the characters, imo.)
I'm downloading Chrno Crusade right now. I've heard good things about it. The Get Backers, Naruto, and One Piece are popular ones, although I can't DL them because there are MANY episodes to each and due to router restrictions I have to DL at VERY slow rates.

I'd download if I didn't have morallities. And a bigger hard drive. I heard about Gunslinger Girl, and the story sounds preety deep.

The great thing about animesuki is that they only host unliscensed animes, so it's perfectly legit. Dowloading liscensed animes, such as Cowboy Bebop, is illegal.
The file sizes for episodes depend obviously by their length. Out of the afore-mentioned series, each episode is about 170 MB.

And the quality on most of them are absolutely amazing. It looks like you're watching the DVD right there in full screen.

Alot of the quality issues also have to do with the group you DL from. From my experience, KEEP-ANBU does the best job out of ANYONE. Ani-Kraze is also very good, and I think you'lll have to use them if you download the Scrapped Princess 1-24 batch torrent.
If you're looking into Gunslinger Girl, there are a few groups you might want to steer clear of. I can't remember the names right now, but I can tell you that when DL gubnslinger girl, you DEFIDENTLY should go with The Triad. They have SUPERB translations and tehy provide you with backround information on the loacations or weapons used. plus they fit the subtitles into the headers at the top and bottom fo the screen, which is a plus.

I'll try it once i get a new HD. i've got one gig left so i probablly won't get many (if any) episodes of Gunslinger Girl.
so i probabbly couldn't get any of the Neon Genesis Evangelion episodes anywhere? i saw a dvd (the End of Evangelion i think) so i'm guessing its licenced (damn).

Yeah, Evangelioon is licsensed. =\
You'll be able to get a few episodes in, but I'd wait till you get the HD. That's what I did, and now that I have a new 160 gig HD I'm downloading like crazy.
Just to let you know, 9 episodes of gunslinger girl is about 1.5 gigs.

I have over 300 Gigs to fill with this stuff! :D
Actually, I'm not going to do that, I'm gonna burn 'em to DVD's and watch 'em on the TV.

Download anything except Animejunkies releases... or be prepared for a crappy subtitle translation. I've been in the internet anime scene for over 8 years now. I even hosted one of the net's biggest anime FTP sites at the time (about 4 years ago). If you guys have any questions (as long as they're legal), then by all means, ask me!

It kinda detracts from the "download anime" theme, but where on earth can a get Evangelion! Does it come in a box set, or what?
Ahem...back on theme...
What's a good anime to start off with? I start getting Gunsliger Girl once I get a new HD, but what else?

Yes, good advice. Stay away from animejunkies. I've never had any experience with them, but that's probably a good thing. I've only heard negative comments about them.
hmmm........I started out with Scrapped Princess. Look it up and see if it fits your "style." If you want to get it, the sooner the better because the series is over and there are less and less people seeding it. If you need me to seed it I'll see what I can do.
I fo course have to mention Full Metal Alchemsit. The is absolutley the BEST anime I have EVEr seen. I recocomend it to EVERYBODY.
I just downloaded Chrno Crusade 1-5. I report back weather i like it or not.
EDIT: righty then, I just watched episode 1 of Chrno Crusade. Although basing opinions after only one episode isn't really a good idea, I'll still report back. Chrno Crusade is alot "darker" than the other anime's that I've watched because it has to do with exorcisms (sp?). but don't expect "The Exorcist" in anime form. The show does have some humor in it. The demons (so far) don't posess people, they're more like monsters (forgive me, I don't know the technical definitions of things like "zombies" or "demons" or "warlocks" or any of that stuff). So far so good though. I'm having that same feeling I had with full metal alchemist and Gunslinger girl; "I'm going really to like this anime." and so far my intial reaction has been spot-on.
