All of this talk about zombie movies has me tingling in the strangest places. What is your favorite and why?

28 days later was by far the best from that list (out of the movies I've seen). It was done so abstractly. The actors fit the part perfectly (especially for not being big name people), the tone was awesome, everything was awesome. Damn, I need to pick this up on DVD for $15.

I bought the DVD and it has the sweetest "extras", including a section on how something like that could definitely happen. The "society breaking down" in a time of crisis aspect of zombie movies really interests me, which is why I love Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later. 28 Days was probably the best horror movie last year.

Hell yeah. I love movies that are similar to video games too. As in 28 days later, I had the biggest urge to play resident evil as soon as I left the theater. Nothing like a night of zombies.

i chose dawn of the dead. it's probably the best zombie film ever made, and there's a multitude of reasons...the effects are some of tom savini's best, and the story is just so good.

in relation to 28 days later...while i love the movie (a WHOLE lot), an interesting proposition came up on the film threat boards as to why many people like dawn better, and i see where they're coming from, though i don't necessarily agree with this view: dawn will always be a superior horror film simply b/c it's a zombie movie with a social commentary, while 28 days later is a social commentary with zombies in it. it makes sense, even though i still consider 28 days later a true zombie movie...

anyways, just thought i'd throw that in...ROMERO 4 LIFE! (thug style)

Hahaha, hey I can agree to that, but i can also agree to the fact that the zombies in 28 Days Later look like blood thirsty brain eating zombies whereas many of zombies in Dawn of the Dead look like confused alzheimer victims with hypothermia. But hey how can you knock Romero, he's practically god.

I chose Peter Jackson's Dead Alive as it is the most gory, weird and fun zombie movie I've ever seen. I saw it at a theater here this summer during a zombie extravaganza and was blown away and sad I had never seen it before.

yeah, i'm a fan of dead-alive as well...i don't think many people like it though, b/c it has sort of a goofy tone throughout much of the film, and the plot's just sooo weird and off-kilter. still, i love peter jackson's genre films ("Frighteners" is another excellent "fun" horror film) and think this is one of the best.

28 days later is one of my favorite movies ever!!
3- 28 days later
2-gladiator
1-saving private ryan

BTW is dawn of the dead the other zombie movie made by Dany Boyle? when a girl and his brother go to a cementery and he dies, then she escapes to a house and some other survivors arrive?

Dawn of the Dead is a movie about survivors holed up in an abandoned shopping mall with thousands of hungry zombies trying to get in. I think you are thinking of Night of the Living Dead where Barbara goes to a cemetary with her brother, he gets his ass whopped (and eaten) and she runs to a farmhouse where she hides out with a black dude and two other couples.

Day of the Dead is about a military installation where the scientists are constantly fighting with the military about what to do about the zombie problem.

my bro told me 28 days latersucked the hard one...he saw it germany and said it was so dumb, like this one guy kept saying stuff like"c'mon, brother!" or "that's right, brother" but w/e, i have no plans on seeing it anyway, i'm not to keen on recent hoorror flicks if you catch my drift...

Professor Go
01-22-2004, 05:33 PM
I'm not sure what exactly your drift is.

And your brother has no taste in movies :D Just thought I'd let you know ;)

i agree. 28 days later is excellent, but danny boyle hasn't made another zombie flick, so i don't know what the hell you were talking about josele. i mean, i do, and it's called night of the living dead, and directed by romero, but i don't know how you don't know that...

anyways, mugan...you're right. that movie's downright ludicrously goofy.

I love it when people degrate 28 Days Later. Just makes me feel even more special for loving it. I saw all those DVD extras, and it was some sweet stuff. I'm glad they didn't go with the whole "blood transfusion" thing though.

But Prof, why didn't you add the movie that 28 Days Later was based on...one of my all time favorite movies...The Omega Man! Charelton(sp) Heston all by himself on Earth...except at night when the "society" awakes.

I'll have to agree on that one. When I went to see 28 days later the second time with two different friends than I saw it the first time with, both of them didn't like it. They said the beginning was too slow (as in all the shots of the city, and the main character awaking). How impatient can you be? I thought those long shots of the city were done PERFECTLY. Really set the mood and tone and made it all the better when the zombies actually started coming after him.

Damn, I really wanna see it again now.

yeah, it's a really great movie. in theatres, i got kinda pissed off, mainly b/c there were these three really loud black bitches behind me who kept saying stuff like, "this is stupid" or, "this is boring". i really wanted to tell them that if they thought it was stupid or boring they should fucking leave. i hate how everyone feels they have to be talkative and loud in movie theaters now...black and white people.

Is Omega Man a zombie movie? And why have I not heard of this Omega Man?!

Boondock Saint
01-23-2004, 11:53 AM
no, omega man's not a zombie movie. it's about a guy who wakes up and is the last person on earth, then the society that is still around comes after him at night, etc... it's pretty decent, if a bit outdated...

anyways, i don't much think that 28 days later was based on much of that flick at all...it has far more in common with the romero flicks, where isolation plays a key role in the story, rather than just the opening where cillian murphy's walking around london and it's empty...that's where he got the omega man bit from...

Ohhh I see, well I also like stories like that, I may give it a rental if I can find it - I wonder if it's had a good re-release on DVD?

Hey do you guys think they can make a 28 Days Later 2? I mean they implied that the virus stopped spreading and that the zombies all died off right? Then again I guess there is always a chance that the original strain was taken by someone in the government or otherwise.. maybe the Umbrella Corporation? :P

Boondock Saint
01-23-2004, 12:09 PM
they didn't really imply that the strain was done with, only that it hadn't reached other countries yet...hmm...it could be done, but the script would have to be fantastic to pull it off.

yeah, omega man's good, but i'm not sure about the dvd. i'll look into it right now...

*edit* here you go, it's cheap too: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0790742802/qid%3D1074877785/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-3646199-9424968

profesor, for you to say my brother has no taste in movies is like saying you aren't the profesor of go. he is a film kind o dude, he's gonna major in film crap when he goes to college and stuff....anyone ever see henry: portrait of a serial killer?

Boondock Saint
01-23-2004, 03:54 PM
oh mugan. did you ever consider that maybe he's not the professor of go, and that he's merely tricking all of us?

oh yeah, i'm a film kind of guy, and i've seen far more films than should be humanly possible, and i say that if your bro didn't like 28 days later...he's either a moron, or he just likes bad movies like 3 ninjas...i dunno. oh, he's not obsessed with movies like scarface or the godfather is he? i mean, b/c that would make him a different breed of movie buff...while they're good movies, i find them a tad overrated. well, except for godfather 2, that movie's excellent..

Professor Go
01-23-2004, 04:16 PM
Hahahaah.. ok well i can't be certain your brother has sucky taste in movies.. hey maybe he just doesn't like London or he thinks it's not fun to blow up zombies into pieces - I'm not sure what his rationale was exactly but you can't really call 28 Days Later a shit movie.. it's too effective to be that.

But hey we all have opinions right? I'm just saying your brother may be going to a porno film school instead of a regular one.
