"According to Gpara, Square-Enix has revealed a few details on the status of the Final Fantasy serie.

First of all, Final Fantasy III is still said to be in development for the Nintendo DS and is set for a release in 2006. Even more interesting is the mention that the game will be fully polygon-based, can you say 3D-Final Fantasy?

Furthermore, the recent notes in Famitsu magazine on Final Fantasy IV on the GBA being the first of a series of ports is strenghtened by Gpara. Both Final Fantasy V as Final Fantasy VI are planned for development for the GameBoy Advance as we speak. Square-Enix must really love Nintendo..."

Thanks to Twilight, on the revo-europe message boards for the tips.

The DS' future seems so bright with game after game being announced. I'm finally glad to hear an update regarding FF3 as this is one of the reasons I bought a DS originally. Keep em' comin' Tailzo.

It's nice to get so much Square love on N handhelds, alot of people were skeptical that would happen after the PSP launched but it's good to see them sticking with the Gameboy and DS. Now if only they'd release a real AAA title for the Revolution, that would be something.

^ True. I am RPG addicted, so, I am starting to feel that the DS is becoming like the psx used to be ; Home to plenty of RPG games that I liked.

Damn, glad I bought a DS for Castlevania.

Though I am interested as to why this didnt come to PSP. Assuming they arent going to be dramatically adjusting the gameplay of these classic games, the extra screen is likely to be used for menu navigation. While thats fine, the major selling point is likely to be the graphic-overhaul. If graphics are gonna be your selling point, then PSP would seem to be the way to go. Maybe other factors are involved as well, though.

Also interesting that Sony isnt using their 20% stock in Square to push the company toward more PSP support. If they did manage to 'convince' Square to put more effort into the PSP, it would likely do alot to help the console's sales in Japan. Ah well, PSP's loss is a gain for the DS in this case. I cant wait to unlock the secrets of Shadow's past one more time.

Your hatred of Paper Mario is hilarious. I dont agree with it, nor do I feel it an invalid opinion, but my god the passion with which you detest the franchise is incredible.

I'm starting to believe that Kennedy might have a bit of a drinking problem. :P

He hates Majora's Mask, and now Paper Mario? Something's definitely wrong.

Oh, and Sascha, the reason why Square is probably investing in developing for the DS might be because it's not only the more viable portable system to develop for, but also the one that's selling more.

But I guess you already knew that. ;)

It offends me greatly as they tried to pass it off as the sequel to SMRPG when it's nothing but a shady action based timing push button game masked with a cheap RPG cover. Had they kept up the SMRPG games (given square hadn't ran for the hills) I would have cared less. I just dont' care for those lies.

SMRPG online? Agreed. on DS ^___^, hopefuly they will make that.

Also to seter hype, if you havnt relised it allready FFIII is 3D

Yeah, I was figuring the only reason they never ported SMRPG was because they wanted to do 3D remake on DS. I'd rather have that as well, because GBA would rape the music quality, just like all the other Mario ports.

Wow I'd always figured Square would put FF7 on DS as the first 3D FF game. I loved the original FF3 on NES. First FF game with the jobs system. The DS's phenomenal sales are paying off. Remember Sascha, Enix always supports the console with the largest userbase the most. Its seems they are following this policy with the DS. I was hyped about the DS' up coming lineup but Jeez, I may have to put my potential 360 purchase off for all the new DS games.

BTW Before anyone asks, the DS is N64+ hardware wise so pulling of FF7 wouldn't be a problem, I mean the FF3 screens should be proof enough. As for fitting the game on a DS card, remember Angel Studios originally planned to do FF7 on a 512megabit(64MB) N64 cartridge. The only ended up doing RE2 because Square turned them down. DS cards hold a minimum of double that amount.

Hmm, I think I predicted this around the time Final Fantasy 1 & 2 were announced for GBA and 3 for DS.

But 3D for FFIII? That just blows my mind! My frothing demand for this game is steadily increasing.

Found at 1 up.com, from the "NINTENDO DS Conference!2005, Fall"

"(...) Wada then went on to talk about Final Fantasy III for the DS. Planned for a winter 2006 release, the characters, field, and other objects will all be rendered in complete 3D polygons rather than the sprites of the original. The team is hard at work on making sure the game has a fresh appearance but at the same time, they want to be careful not to ruin the appeal of the original.

Before he left the stage, Wada mentioned that after the release of the upcoming Final Fantasy IV for GBA, FFV and FFVI will be following the tradition and appearing on the GBA. He promised that FF games will never just be straight ports, but rather will always contain new elements. We're definitely interested in seeing how these FF games are coming along and how Square Enix's first basketball game turns out...so hopefully there will be a media update soon. "
