While talking to a fellow employee robert-gca and he told me that the DS had made the front page of the buisness section in the San Jose Mercury newspaper. There was a great quote in it that I have to share with you all...
"He (Iwata) said he was grateful that Sony gave such advance notice about its PSP plans so that Nintendo could develop a competing product."
Nothing spectacular but I got a good laugh off of this one :)

well, if its' as good as i hope....microsoft will crap their pants, and sony's psp will fail, and they'll with some luck, leave the videogame business....yep, that would rock the haus!

Ya, I was surprised it made the morning paper with such late breaking news as it was for out here in California. My dad didn't know that I already knew of this, and left the paper out to the page on our kitchen table when I left for work at the godawful hour of 5:45 am. I got home, and saw the word "Nintendo" and jumped to the paper. You can read the whole article here: Nintendo to make 2-screen handheld (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/business/technology/7759806.htm)

Very strange timing on the 'N's part, though, don't you think? Why now, instead of some other time? I suppose they've accomplished their goal though: get back in the limelight, loved or hated:)

Don't forget this little comment...
"Tonight's announcement is only a mere glimpse of the wonderous additional features that Nintendo will be happy to show off at this year's upcoming E3 in May." ~GCA News
...wait till E3, I can't help but think if this is only but the TIP of the iceburg.

It's huge news... and the timing was weird... approximately 8:30 last night, I think.

well, it's official...the PSP is screwed. lol, jk. now it will have to go up against GB and NDS...it's a shame really, even though i see the PSP as nothing more than a better version of the n gage...but that's besides the point, the point is now the handheld market battle has changed completely. The PSP must face, actually three competitors; the GBA, the GBF, and the NDS. Think about it, even when the GBF comes out people will still be buying GBAs cause the price will drop, so basically, Sony better get their ass in gear or they will never make it.
BTW: This further proves my point that Nintendo will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the handheld market...--~

If this system is well-received at the official unveiling, it's possible Nintendo would have found the perfect way too cover its arse. The GBA caters to the inexpensive crowd, while the NDS allows for domination of the high-cost niche market the PSP is aiming to create...

who said it's gonna be high cost? this is nintendo, remember? they will do al they can to make it affordable

I didn't say that, I just said that this can take care of the high-cost, high-tech niche at an economical price.

I completely agree. I got the feeling Nintendo's got something huge up their sleeves. I mean look at whats going on here, the strange timing, the comment about them being happy for the advanced notice of the PSP so they can make something to compete with it, how they've been talking about it and acting like its something innovative and not anything like the GBA..... So why is all this stuff going on? Because Nintendo knows they've something amazing is in the works. They've hardly told us aything so far..... Come E3 Nintendo will own us all BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

E3 this year is gonna be Nintendo's biggest show ever. I just know they are going to unveil the N5 and GBA2 there, as well as the NDS.

I heard it is going to cost $99 to $179 for the thing.

We can't make that assumption yet, though, because Nintendo hasn't said anything about a price.

That's what I read somewhere.
when nintendo realeses its new product ABC will probably be like "Today Nintendo reveals there new product the DS, its a 2 screen..blah blah blah. They did that when Sony Playstation 2 came out, I remember.

David what you read was the journalist comparing the $99 price tag of a Gamecube to the PS2 (I believe it was this) $179 it was not a guess at how much it would cost

Lets just hope that Nintendo doesn't spoil all the good info about everything before the E3 media briefing like they have done in the past couple years. More last year than the year before. I wanna be blown away completely by my first E3.

I'm not going to E3 this year or next year, probably. This year, because I'm gonna be busy with finals (we get out in late May here). Next year, I'll be busy with finals and graduation, at the same time. Maybe the year after.

Not really. Without the competition, we probably wouldn't have even seen the DS. Or even disc based media on the GC. It's great that there's more competition now, especially in the handheld market - it means Nintendo are going to have to step up their game if they want to remain the pocket king.

The DS really shows the difference between Nintendo and other companies. The PS2 was basically a really beefed up PS1. The controllers of PS and XBOX are based on other controllers that have gone before. The PSPS will basically be a portable device like any other, but BIGGER and BETTER.
What I mean is - other companies jaust improve on whats gone before. Nintendo truly changes whats come before - they make something DIFFERENT dammit! How else can the industry truly move forward?

Nintendo was the first to really make an awesome controller and I think the way the Playstion and X-Box controllers are set up are a direct point of this. They are all similar but with different buttons and some are bigger but they are basically a run off of Nintendo. :D
"Pocket King" hahaa that's a funny name for them. :D Its cool though. In my opinion no one can beat Nintendo for handhelds. I mean they have ruled the market for a long time now. Granted there hasn't been competition but still. Just because there are new handhelds coming out I'm not worried. The N-Gage did a major flopand even thought the PSP may cause some competition I still think that the GBA and SP will rule the market. :D :D

I was a little worried by the psp simply because of the popularity of the playstation. But this has made it clear that Nintendo refuse to rest on their laurels (spelling?)
I have every confidence!

I doubt that they will show the next gen nintendo, "gba2", and the DS at the same time. It would create a big BIG show but I doubt it.
