PS2 or Xbox?

Until recently, i was deadset on picking up an Xbox as soon as the funds rolled in. but ive recently sat down and played some games on the PS2, and now im at a stalemate. so i want the opinions from YOU the general public on which you think is the better platform. Choose wisely, cause i'll most likely sway the way of the majority.

I chose the X-Box because I can't stand the PS2 for many reasons. But don't listen to me man do what I suggest to anybody who is asking themselves what system to buy.

Don't look at the system, don't look at who makes it, look at the games. Find the system that has the games YOU want to play and buy the system that best fits your gameplaying.

aaah, ive never heard anything more true (except, 'do you want fries with that?'). and i probally should have mentioned that online gaming will be there for sure, and broadband will soon not be a problem.

Hey no problem. I know what I like but that doesn't mean that you have to like what I like. I HATE realistic sports games, the most realistic sports game I like is Tony Hawk and we all know that is not realistic haha. But people who like realistic sports games would like the PS2 then cause they re-hash them over and over dozens of times :) (okay I know I took a little stab at them, but gosh darn it I hate them so)

hehehe dont worry, i still know that. its why ive got so many games for GCN :D. i need to pick up two classic titles 1st, Mario Sunshine and Eternal Darkness (rented it once).

PS2. i've played quite a few xbox games, and with the exception of halo, i've found myself completely not interested in them.

halo, while great, is not a reason to buy a system...and if it's stuff like madden, etc., most of the good multiplatform games...well, they can be found on ps2...anyways, the ps2 has great exclusives, in my opinion, while the xbox has more than a few lackluster offerings.

ooo, my vote made it a tie. i voted xbox. though the ps2 boasts a superior game library, a majority of the games suck, thought the same may go for xbox, which would make me see them as equals, xbox has LIVE which, rocks the haus! therefore, i must say, nuts to you ps2!

I no you seem interested in Doom 3, so I'd say get a pc. you could easily build a doom 3 capable pc for under a 1g, so pick one of those up if you can wait. Otherewise go with X. I don't have one, but I do have a PS2 and it hasn't been turned on in months. Xbox has Halo 2, Fable, DooM 3, Half Life 2, and some sort of online unreal coming out in the near future. Game Cube is still the best, though.

I'm going purely by the hardware capabilies... now... if I was going by which would be better to play based on controllers... then I'd go with PS2... otherwise XBOX all the way...

p.s. I have gamecube... I won't buy the other two

My vote goes for PS2. There's such a large library of games and the system easily supports online titles, plays DVDs, and is catered to both gamers interested in single player games and multi-player games. All-around the better system IMO.

i think the ps2 as a system is quite sub-par, the library like i ssaid earlier is big, but mostly just companies pouring out truckloads of crap, and xbox is much better when it comes to online, the S controller is heaven, i hate the ps2 controler, you have no grip on it; it has no depth like xbox's and gcn's. also, i don't really like sony so psht, but then again i don't particularly like M$ either, but still, xbox by a long shot.
