View Full Version : PS3 - The OLD rumors

Is it me or was people saying that the PS3 would include options to get implants into your hands and other parts of the body to play the games. I forgot where i read this (EGM, IGN?) but i definitely remember it. And it wasn't a joke either, they was really serious. Though the implant thing was scary at first, i think i could dig becoming a counterpart to my gaming machine.

That sounds interesting but WAY ahead of our time. Maybe the PS10 or something will do that. I doubt we (people as a whole) are ready for that kind of technology.

sony sucks. they are so messed up. but yeah, i remember this ad from like 6 years ago that advertised for the new sony system in the year 2070 or something, and had a bunch of futuristic stuff. who knows. they cannot possibly be serious about implants though.

Yea i remember that commercial to but i am POSITIVE they were talking about the PS3. It was when the PS2 first came out...damnit I cant remember where i read it from. O well...
O yea and did u guys hear about the Xbox 2 having that growing garden thing? The more games you buy the bigger your garden grows. The GameCube was suppose to have this feature but Shiggy thought it wasn't needed. Seems like a cool idea. Reminds of the little chao thingies in Sonic, watchin em grow and stuff. ::Tear:: I miss those little guys..

Yeah, the commercials were futuristic, didn't really (or did they?) have any truth to them. Sony was just projecting the future, starting with PS2 (in their ads).

I don't ever remember hearing anything about any implants, but I remember how Sony was boasting that the PS3 was going to use "cell" technology which would make it 30 times faster or something rediculous like that. Someone in my college class even mentioned that all PS3 games were going to be cel-shaded. I thought that was pretty funny.
Sony just likes to make hype for themselves.
[GCA] BMaN
01-22-2004, 04:05 PM
lol all cel-shaded, good one
Did you then slap him on his head?
I woulda done just that...

I remember the load of bollocks that Sony ran when they were running hype for the "Emotion Engine" in the PS2. The bloody official line said that this chip would let a game maker use cirtain frequencies to trigger any emotion in a player, so at a sad point of a game they could just programme "make the player sad now" and presto, you have a crying gamer.
I didn't belive it when they said it, and look who turned out to be right....hey...wait a minute....... maybe all their games are programmed to tell the player "you like your PS2 games, you will buy more of them"..................could explain a thing or two ^_^

So do you think Cell is gonna be big? Or the 3 64 bit processors in the Xbox 2?
sorry for taking long to respond!
Bkbro429
02-08-2004, 09:50 PM
Not sure, Cell is suppose to be faster then 100 Pentium 4 chips put together (not sure what clock speed, I am guessing 2 GHz at minimum) Also where did you find out about the Xbox 2 specs, can you give a link? And about the long pause before a response, it was ok, I was not even by the computer, lol.

And if you can't get there still- heres the info.
The Xbox Next will reportedly use three 64-bit processors similar to those used by Apple Computer's G5 PowerMac machines giving it "more computing power than most personal computers." A benefit of switching architectures is the ability to use a wider data path, enabling more information to be processed at once. According to the report, the Xbox Next will use a graphics chip designed by ATI (the original Xbox used a graphics chip designed by nVidia). The new chip is reportedly faster than ATI’s upcoming R400 GPU.
For memory, the Xbox Next is said to have 256MB of RAM, though the console can easily support more. In comparison the current Xbox only has 64MB of RAM. The extra memory can be used for higher resolution textures as well as visual enhancement techniques such as double-buffering and anti-aliasing at HDTV resolutions.
At this point there is no word from Microsoft regarding backwards compatibility. The architecture shift from a x86 CPU to a PowerPC CPU means that the Xbox Next could not run Xbox games natively, however given the relative jump in computing power emulation is a possibility. Microsoft recently acquired Connectix’s Virtual PC technology, so it is entirely feasible that the Xbox Next will simply support Xbox games via emulation.
Unlike Sony's unveiling of its Cell chip, none of these specs are official so nobody can know for sure if the information is legit. Until Microsoft gives the official word, analysts and enthusiasts can only make educated guesses (and wishes).
Stay tuned for more details as they come!

Nintendo has something up their sleeves. They probably have something in the works called, Ninty!
Bkbro429
02-08-2004, 10:18 PM
Well those 3 64 bit processors do sound interesting as the Apple G5 uses two processors, and that makes it the 2nd fastest personal computer in the world. Thats why like MS said, it will probably be more powerful then some personal computers.
OutlawAdidas
02-08-2004, 10:24 PM
Well, as I said before, I need a new computer, so I'll wait for the Xbox 2
Bkbro429
02-08-2004, 10:26 PM
Ha, look at this: Toshiba and Sony are about begin trial production of semiconductor chips that will be the precursor to the Cell chip that is expected to be used in the PlayStation 3. The manufacturing process is more advanced than any in commercial use today, requiring the construction of a new production facility. That was at the bottom of the link you put up, very interesting.
OutlawAdidas
02-08-2004, 10:29 PM
yea I know, Sony is spending alot of money, thats a good thing! Cuz When the Cube2 and Xbox 2 take sales away from sony, they won't have enough money to stay open!Mwahaha
Bkbro429
02-08-2004, 10:33 PM

I have I.E 6 Windows ME, I hated the pop ups that I recieved and how the DSL became slow at sometimes. So I downloaded Netscape...so much better! You don't have to open more than one window to view two different websites. You can open two sites in one window through tabs. Imagine it like a binder that is catergorized by dividers.
Bkbro429
02-09-2004, 10:07 PM
yes, but it makes sites like GCA, look messed up, the font and graphics encoding, and since I have SBC Yahoo! DSL, i just got the Yahoo! OutlawAdidas
02-09-2004, 10:09 PM

Bkbro429
02-09-2004, 10:13 PM

no, i'm pretty sure they mean how walkman defined the portable music genre, dummy. even non-sony products are called walkmen by people. that's how popular the brand was.

02-27-2004, 06:32 AM
yeah, that would be it. kinda like how gameboy is synonymous with games on the go. if someone sees you playing a portable game system, they'll probally ask 'playing gameboy there?' something along those lines.
