View Full Version : Literature Forum: Yea or Nay?
I feel that literature is a valid topic for discussion, and that we should have a forum dedicated to talking about our favorite books and such. Does anyone else agree with me? Please vote!

Haven't finished a book in 5 years and don't believe they make you any smarter. I personally learn words much easier through hearing them over reading them. I don't understand why TV is said to be such crap and books are so sacred. TV has taught me SO much more than any books could have. 80% of my vocabulary comes from TV and movies.

I read all the time, finishing a great book about the history of Buddhism and a book of short stories published by Alfred Hitchcock, love to read. I like TV but there's something to be said for the poetry and effectiveness of a good writer. There's more to life than staring at a screen and letting other people think for you.
Yes, books force you to use your imagination, which in turn causes you to be creative. That's my belief, anyway.

Right, I don't think there is any imagination to be used watching TV.. there is inspiration but I don't think there is much imagination. With TV you have everything thought out for you - characters, images, sounds.. it's all right there, with books you have words that you have to envision and interpret and I think that's cool.
Then again I was an English major so I guess I'm a little biased.

I think it is a good idea, but it should also be a fan fiction forum, so members can post some stories they made.

i voted yes, because i read quite a bit. and i'm reading quite a few things now that i would love to discuss with people...maybe if we started the forum and allowed people to post fan fic on it as well? that would be cool...but how about posting all kinds of stories? not just fan fic? anything that people want people to read? that's a cool idea.
but yes, literature is something that is definitely missing from this forum...
Yes, I write some fanfiction myself, and I wouldn't mind sharing it with you all. But since it is Literature, it would fit right into the forum.

I'm *finally* finding myself able to get into Wheel of Time, whereas before I simply couldn't, for some reason. My faveourite authors are easily Ian Irvine, John Marsden and Phillip Pullman though. :D
Please show some support. I know there are readers out there, but we won't get a literature forum if you don't vote!

Yeah, I just finished a book, started another and I'm going to get to more. So I would like to talk about them.

I'm all for Literature, but don't know if an entirely new forum is needed. I'm just thinking in terms of how many topics there are on Literature on the board now.
The lack of literature threads on the site may be due to the fact that there is no good place to put them where people would actually read the thread. Just my opinion, but I feel that if Literature threads were put on the General Discussion board, they would be easily overlooked. However, if there were a dedicated forum, readers would more likely go there to discuss Literature.
