What do u think will be a good name for the next nintendo system?

StarCube

j/k.....................haha

Seriously, I really think they should put "NES" back in the name somewhere.

I think Nexus is actually quite good.

i like n5, but i think thats too much like Sony and PS1 PS2 etc. We should be like the other systems too, for example: N5 Video Gaming console etc. then people will think your sophistimuhcated

I like N5 too. Like N64, but with a 5 instead of a 64.

Nintendo Fun Machine? Naww...
It needs to be simple, yet clever, like Playstation and Game Cube. Even though Xbox doesn't sound too original, it's still a good name that rolls off the tongue.

Nexus gets my seal of approval.

i like Nexus too. It's catchy and sounds edgy and cool. "Hey man, I got a Nexus!"
Possibly N5, or go back to Dolphin.

Nexus has my vote.

I agree, they should name it Nintendo Entertainment System 5 and have N5 for short.

Steve-AMN
01-10-2004, 05:03 PM
Nexus would be the absolute best name from what I have seen or can think of. And how much crap do you think Nintendo would get if they called it Dolphin?

I know Nintendo fans wouldn't really care but that just opens up Nintendo to so much crap from Sony and Mircrosoft and thier fanboys...last thing I want to hear is a generation of kids making up as many jokes as they can think of about the New Nintendo Dolphin.

Simply: Nintendo Video Game System.

The name Nintendo is a powerful one. Just call the systems that; Nintendo, just like sony's systems are always called Playstations, and Nintendo's hand helds are always called Game Boys (Microsoft's going to have to come up with somthing better than X-box though.)

To call it The Nintendo Entertainment System, to me, just goes against what the Nintendo systems are, they are Video Game Systems, they put an emphasis on the fact that it just plays video games, so to me, calling it a video game system just makes sense.

Nintendo Video Game System.

Gateway is the name of the Nintendo consoles in public transort, waiting rooms and hospitals etc.

Nexus is neat, but the guy who made it all will spring up from nowhere and sue. I wouldn't mind if Nintendo copied the specs and/or shape of the Nexus. They both seem quite appealing! :D

Hmm.. I think NES5 sounds quite neat and retro. It will also make people remember the "good old days" of the gaming world when every NES/SNES game was good.

NES, SUPER NES.. Maybe SUPER DOOPER NES! Or if you are being serious, ULTRA NES. UNES.. Sounds nice.

Edit: i-NES or Nintendo-i.
If Nintendo go online (highly likely), this is a good name for either their console or Online Play ("Xbox Live" sounds pants next to "iNES")..

Linque
01-11-2004, 12:44 AM
I like the "Nintendo-i" idea, but I prefer "i-Nintendo" for the online play.

I'm torn between NES 5 and Nintendo Video Game System or NVGS 5.

I think my votes with the N5. Dolphin would totally ruin nintendo, just like Steve said.

Prodigy sounds pretty cool, but I doubt Nintendo would name their next console that.

Steve-AMN

I don't think Prodigy would work either. That just makes it sound dorky and then you have the casual gamer who wants the kewl new thing not liking the Nintendo Prodigy

Nintendo:Portable system 2.5 or N:PS2.5 for short. I bet we get a few new sales with name. But the name itself should sound futuristic, thats why I like the name Nexus.

Eddz
01-12-2004, 04:02 AM
Nintendo would never name it "Nexus" as they didn't come up with that name and the guy who did would probably make a stand and sue.

Maybe we should put "Nexus" aside when coming up with names for the system.

Actually that guy would not be able to sue for anything. If anything Nintendo could sue him for falsifying (excuse spelling) information. Unless he went to the government, spent a min. of $2000 to copyright the name which he wouldn't be able to do cause he would have to have something to copyright and a falsified picture does not count.

I checked this all with my father who is a lawyer. The guy who made those pics does not have a leg to stand on if he ever tried to sue Nintendo (if they used Nexus that is).

And to be quite honest, just cause he released those pics with that name does not mean Nintendo hasn't copyrighted the names first. Longest they did so in another country first then it doesn't matter cause they are talking about the same product. But that is only important IF the guy has a leg to stand on...which as I explained, he doesn't.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I said it once and I will say it again. The Nintendo Nexus is the best name I have heard or could think of. If Nintendo did use it then I think it would turn more then its share of heads!!!

He's going doooown!

Steve-AMN
01-12-2004, 04:38 AM
Hehe. Nintendo won't sue him. They are too nice. If Nintendo wanted to sue for just the things they really have a good right to sue over, then they would probably make another Billion.

Eddz
01-12-2004, 05:14 AM
Nintendo.. nice?!

Over here they take down even small companies who import games from the USA or Japan! Everyone has to agree to a contract or Nintendo will not provide them with their products.

Shoxx
01-12-2004, 05:56 AM
It's not the fact that they're "nice" that they won't sue... its the fact that they'd be wasting their time with a pointless case. If they sue him, they would have to sue every other person who comes up with a console mock up for a Nintendo system. It wouldn't be fair to just single him out.

Steve-AMN
01-12-2004, 06:23 AM
I wasn't refering to him.

First off, Nintendo is EXTREAMLY nice. The fact that they make everyone agree to a contract before they do anything is just good buisness and not anything else.

Secondly, it has everything to do with them being nice. Nintendo will stop people who are really screwing them over, I.E. People who massivly produce roms of Nintendo games, etc, etc. Nintendo is like Lucas. Lucas doesn't sue or stop everyone who wants to use Star Wars parodies or likenesses. Its a case by case issue for him. Some people he stops or says no to, most people he either gives permission or just says, "oh well, who cares."

And when I said Nintendo could probably have another Billion dollars if they sued everyone the could I wasn't referring to just recently in history, I am talking since they entered the video game market. I should have made that more clear sorry :)

Keep in mind what you can sue over and how much you can win over stupid crap. Ecspecially in America.

Nes 5/Nintendo Fifth
is a great name........
Prodigy is nice ... but its not a good name for a console.

Monkeylord
01-12-2004, 10:40 AM
I think they should stick to names rather than adding a number to the end of something. To me just adding a number makes me instantly think of movie sequels... and we all know how rare it is for a sequel to be as good as, let alone surpass the original!

Luigis_Angel930
01-12-2004, 11:33 AM
I agree with that Monkeylord. I like the name Nexus for the next Nintendo system. I think it sounds cool. :)

I don't like the fact that Sony is only putting numbers after their new systems. I would think they could come up with something more creative than that. I like the playstions but they could come up with something better. But that's just me, you guys probably don't think that. O well. :)

AHH! Nintendo already have the Gateway system. Its the SNES/N64-playing consoles you get in jets/public transport etc in Japan and the USA.

Lets make that clear, eh?

How about "the Nintendo Warpzone"?

Manny
01-13-2004, 03:57 PM
Nintendo needs a name that all gamers, hardcore and casuals alike, will like. I mean, a good name or a bad name doesn't mean the system will suck, but it will draw a larger audience.

The GameCube, for all its intents and purposes, does sound like a child's toy. Not that I don't think its catchy (because I think it is), but I think Nintendo needs it's name on the next console and it needs to bring its old followers back.

The "N5" sounds so much better to me than Nexus just because it makes me realize that this is Nintendo's fifth home console and that they must have done something right in order to have stayed in the business this long.

Just my two cents.

Hear me out on the Warpzone. The slogan could go something like this: "Welcome to the Warpzone. Choose your destination." It ties into one of the greatest game franchises of all time (Mario), and it relates that the system is a portal to fantastical worlds.

Steve-AMN
01-14-2004, 03:34 PM
The Warpzone is not a bad idea...but IMHO it sounds childish too. I see where you are going with it on your slogan but keep in mind the casual gamer doesn't want to be welcomed. A casual gamer I know said, "F$#% all this crap, I just want to turn it on, get into a game, meet some people, then shoot them all!" he was refering to a World War2 game and how he wants to be able to get into games that simple.

I actually like the codename N5. It is perfect for a name, and it short and cool. I really can't think of any other names, I am not too good at making up names, and it took me some time to think up my username for these forums :p. I still think N5 is just fine.

01-15-2004, 02:49 PM
n5 is too lame, sounds like ps3 er something....-shvers-ewww...but how bout...i dunno...they should just go back to NES....or change is to UNES, ultimate nintendo entertainment system....i dunno, something simple, cool, old school stylenessness, but they should just call it nes

blablamax
01-15-2004, 03:16 PM
Manny. you made a good pointr but I really think that the Gamecube name isnt childish at all ... but it got the image as a children console becuase of Nintendo decision to market it with the purpel color as the formal color of the console.

Eclipse is very special .... and interesting, I didnt know this word before...

Monkeylord
01-16-2004, 04:06 AM
I like purple.

N5 still sounds sucky.

blablamax
01-16-2004, 05:21 AM
purple was a stupid color for the system .. Platinum, rulez.

Monkeylord
01-16-2004, 05:27 AM
No it wasn't... besides, from launch you had a choice between Purple and Black.

And it's spelt "rules" not "rulez".

Shoxx
01-16-2004, 06:11 AM
Even so, making the purple console the standard one was a bit of a mistake. Black should have been the standard. Maybe even Spice Orange (I wish it'll come out here!)

Luigis_Angel930
01-16-2004, 02:06 PM
It would be awesome if the Spice Orange came. Now I know purple is a girly color (and I'm a girl ;P) but I do like the color. They could have made it a lighter purple. At least this way it's not too girly of a color. :)

Eclipse sounds cool. If they called it the Nintendo Eclipse that would be cool :D My vote goes to either Eclipse or Nexus.

Xtreme CHRI$$
01-16-2004, 04:30 PM
Nexus sounds cool but it sounds too much like the car, the lexus. Eclipse isn't original enough, the car, the gum, when the sun goes behind the moon, etc. So I would stick with N5 and plus I have an idea for the logo. Its hard to explain so I'm not even gonna try.

David85
01-16-2004, 06:35 PM
Eclipse isn't isn't original enough? I mean come on, we had Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, those are evven less original. And PlayStation 2 isn't at all original but it still selld millions.

BTW, purple is an awsome colour, I know a lot of guys who like the colour, the Nintendo purple isn't that good, and for a system it's just bad, but orange rules. No one else but Nintendo fans would like it, it be so awsome, but no Nintendo doesn't do that.

how about the "nintendo hopefully with more innovative games than the last three systems which only used updated versions of pre-used and proven concepts in order to sell the machine"?

i think that would be an accurate name in the very least...

David85
01-16-2004, 09:44 PM
No, the SNES had innovative games, and the N64 had Mario 64 and that MADE platform games, and had GoldenEye which MADE 3-D console games. The Gamecube might not be, but Animal Crossing is and Nintendo just crapped out the others. I mean come on isn't Mario with a water pack and half as many levels isn't innovative enough for you. :-P

But really, don't dis the SNES.

I always liked "Project Reality" but probably not for a real name.

How about the "Nintendo Triforce" err...maybe thats a little too corny :). And make it either Black or Platinum.

Coming up with names is harder than it sounds...

(I reserve the right to change my name choices after more info on the N5 comes out :).)

Monkeylord

I always liked "Ultra 64" better than "Nintendo 64" - seeing that Ultra 64 plug at the begining of the cinematic for the arcade version of Killer Instinct always made me grin with anticipation.
